Unfortunately it is real, and on orders of the Bank of Thailand. They are rolling it out across accounts held by foreigners, and as we are in Thailand this might take a while and even then some a

  • No, AFAIK You can adjust the limit yourself, via app or online banking.

  • The alarming changes about Thai banks limitations in many ways and orchestrated by BOT is alarming ....hopefully not another fin.crisis in the waiting

As said, they have just started rolling out the new limits.

Might take weeks, might take hours, you never know.

Or the current one is simply "playing safe" through the ridiculous low limits and alsmost stopping any foreigner to opening an account.

Let the incoming governor take those decisions, then if some weird stuff would happen the outgoing one can't be blaimed!

I'm just glad that I didn't waste time on visiting them to get my face scanned, it would have been absolutely pointless with these new "enforced" limits. What a mess.

One question, I have a Kasikorn savings account but I haven't done the facial recognition yet. When I am back in Thailand in September again, should I go to a Kasikorn branch for the facial recognition? Does this have any advantage in terms of transaction limits?

Wasted the enormous amount of 15 Baht fee for the sake of facts.

My Kbank "home" branch is in Pattaya so today in Khon Kaen15 Baht fee for 30000 Baht withdrawal.

Normally I do cardless withdrawal. No fee nationwide.

Currently there is a wave of false or unprecise rumours and fear mongering. Reminds me of the tax on pension alarm. I need a break. Those who come with "will change for all foreigners/all banks":

provide reputable sources!!

Another message about the 15 Baht fee followed.

Whether the 30000 maximum message was specific to me (had set this limit from 20k to 30k in the app) or general?

Don't know.

In the past I had withdrawn up to 50000 per transaction.

Yes and yes.

Facial recognition is required for lifting the preset limits in the K Plus app .

And don't be puzzled by the uncountable nonsense and rumors in this thread.

And in the very end: you can always go to a branch with your passport and do transactions as much as money is in the account.

I think you are mistaken there...no ATM in Thailand dispenses more than 30k per transaction, and most are only max 20k, but?

Mate, I am glad that you are able to withdraw 30000. I started this thread and had three cards rejected while trying to withdraw that amount. The security guard at the branch had me try again (this time in Thai language) with him watching on. When the same message came up he took us inside where the a bank officer called their their help line, asked for English and gave her phone to me.

It was the help line that stated that foreigners were restricted to 20000 daily limit as of 16 July. This was also passed on to the bank officer and she was also told that my wife's account could be changed back to 30000 but my account and the joint account could not.

This information is neither false or imprecise. If you care to go to the original post you will see that I asked had this happened to anyone else. I was not fear mongering but asking was it happening elsewhere.

Do you have online access, using the app?

If not that would be another facette which I can not comment/contribute.

Joint accounts also uncharted territory for me.

No, we do not use the app (my eyes and fingers are not good enough). We do everything via the website and ATM.

I also asked before if your account is labelled as a K Biz account as mine was changed to K Biz some time ago. My wife's account was opened this year and was also a K Biz account since we requested online access.

Ok. And that is a well known nuisance.

The website does not allow to lift the limits.

Other banks have already shut down their websites.

You failed to answer whether your account is labelled a K Biz account for the second time.

That is not important except with the Krungsri Bank closing their website banking for savings accounts soon I thought that there may be a connection. Krungsri bank will offer their usual website banking by changing the account type to a Business account that I have successfully done.

On the website it's called Kbiz.

The app is named K Plus.

In person at the branch was possible before. The notice on the ATM said the limit could be increased at the branch, but did not apply to foreigners accounts when asked.

Another message about the 15 Baht fee followed.

I think it is stated many times here, with screenshot proving facial scan and the works are in order.

There are 3 groups:

1) limits as usual (in which group you obviously are)

2) people going in for an update, might be to do the facial scan first time, might be an update because of new passport, ... Then walk out suddenly hit with lower limits, unable to change them.

3) people who up to a few days ago had the same high limits and able to change them (using facial scan to confirm changes), suddenly noticing the limits have been greatly reduced and not being able anymore to change them back to the old levels, with for example the app clearly stating that the maximum daily limit can be increased to maximum 50,000 Baht. Highlighted in red font in the app!

Plenty people from group 2 and 3 have visited their branch and called Kasikorn's K-center (with and without assistance from branch staff), and across the board got the same answer, big apologies but those are the new limits as imposed by the Bank of Thailand.

Just because you happen to be in group 1 does not give you the right to ridicule people in group 2 and 3 as scaremongerers.

It is not only here on this forum, plenty others on reddit etc as well.

Please check in your app if you get the red notice "you can increase the limit up to 50000 Baht" when you enter an amount greater then 50,000

As I said earlier we were at the bank when talking to the call centre. We were told that my wife could change the limit on her personal account by taking in her passbook. We had the passbooks for the joint account and my account there but they would not allow the 20000 limits to be changed.

If your branch allows you to increase the limit let me know.

Took THB 25000 from our joint Bkk Bank account last Monday, as I always do.

Thanks for your reply. When i open my K+ app the following message appears. Does it mean i can increase these limits when i will go to the branch for facial recognition? Or are these limits also valid even in the case with facial recognition?

Just another part of Thailands plan to attract wealthy tourists.

Can't help thinking that it is all being dictated from on high, and here I am thinking in particular of the BIS, the bank of all banks, even in Europe it is becoming increasingly difficult to dispose of your own money that you have in a bank account perhaps because of the CBDC that we will all have to deal with in the future.

Question is maybe Thailand is on the verge of a financial crises a days interest on 1,000s upon 1,000s of bank account can add up to a tidy sum even the Thai baht in the last few days has got strong I’m convinced they manipulate the currency to their advantage Household debt is about to explode tourists are few and far if it wasn’t for the 1,000s of Russians the country would be in a dire state

When you get that banner you have been put on the new limits.

Even with facial scan that cannot be increased, so total of max. 50000Baht daily through your app (transfers etc) and 20000 daily with atm card.

A few months ago, the staff at a provincial branch of Bangkok Bank were arrested for facilitating mule accounts for many Chinese who reportedly used them to repatriate millions of baht, probably from phone scams, money laundering and when the Chinese-owned casinos were moving from Myanmar to Cambodia.

Subsequently, Bangkok Bank has recently put a 4-month freeze or lock on some accounts being used by foreigners to fund extension applications at immigration.

Kasikorn Bank may have chosen a different way to limit the transactions on a foreigner's account, by changing some default settings on their app?

Bank of Thailand and other governing authorities have probably instructed all banks to place transactional restrictions on foreigner's accounts but are leaving it up to each bank as to how they implement it?

FWIW, my Bangkok Bank app still has the 200,000 in/out transfer caps and the 50,000 daily ATM caps that I configured a few years ago.

NB: This is after their latest app update installed earlier this morning, where I had to scroll the terms and conditions and click 'accept'.

Yes, that's still available, but I recall several years ago when those who balked at an increase in ATM fees would simply go inside to the forex desk, present their plastic and passport, and 'pull' the cash from overseas that way.

Then certain banks and branches, when a foreigner asked for the above service, started saying 'cannot' and redirecting the customer back to the ATM machine. The only way around that was to request a 'pull' that was significantly larger than what the ATM allowed.
