RamenRaven Posted July 22 Posted July 22 The Pizza Company's pizzas tastes great, but some Westerners say that they are actually made for Thai tastes. What makes it non-authentic? I've been in Asia for so long that I've practically forgotten what an authentic Western pizza should actually be like. 1 2
brewsterbudgen Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I love Pizza Company pizzas, although it's a shame they don't do the Italian Sausage one any more. My son loves a cheese crust, which I hate. I also love 'authentic' Italian pizzas and American 'pies'. Best of all is a Fiorentina from Pizza Express, with extra pepperoni. I love pizzas. 2
Popular Post KhunLA Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 Pizza made in TH for the Thai palate, who would have thought. Had a few Thai versions, and tasty. Not a fan of PC pan pizza, but there NY Style is one of the better versions and great value. Especially when 2 for 1 promo is going and we get it, at least once a month on average. Looks like real pizza to me ... 1 2 1 1
Mark1969 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 It's not authentic because the person baking it does not know what a real pizza looks and tastes like. They are just going by pictures or a recipe. The same reason why you won't ever get authentic tasting Mexican food here. I think McDonalds rose above the problem, but only because their ingredients and process is so streamlined. There is probably still some non-authentic stuff in there though. For example, some thai guy putting in a little too much sauce (because they use too much sauce on street food here), even though the machine should be dispensing only a certain amount. 1 1 2 1 1
Popular Post Cameroni Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 The sauce is way too sweet. They add too much sugar in the tomato sauce. There's too much of it as well. 4 4 1 1 2

I really don't think you are allowed to......

'Proper' pizzas use a base made from crushed tomatoes, often raw or minimally cooked with spices. Thais (I think) use tomato paste, which is too intense and thick. 2
Popular Post save the frogs Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 Even back home, the chain restaurants have the crappiest pizza. And with so many ma & pa places doing amazing pizza, why do people still eat pizza from the chain places? Maybe Domino's has 2 for 1 specials or throws in free Coke or something. Or people don't know what they're doing. 2 1 2

John Drake Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Haven't had it in almost 8 years, because it's too salty for me. But I liked it back in those days when I could eat it. Loved the seafood pizza and the hawaiian one.

Some people get used to a certain style of pizza. And then when they switch to sth else, they find the other pizza odd. Whatever floats your boat. Back home, there were much better options than Domino's in my opinion. But it's like arguing musical tastes. You like what you like.

save the frogs Posted July 22 Posted July 22 10 hours ago, Cameroni said: Aye, Antica Pizzeria da Michele. Now that's pizza. I havent tried the artesan pizza from Pizza Hut, but it makes sense that they would do that because probably 20-30% of people are too sophisticated in their pizza palate to go for chain pizzas, so they were targeting that demographic. Maybe 70% of people dont care and the chain pizza is good enough for them.

Or people don't know what they're doing. It is mainly the specials,as , like you said, there are many mom and pop, authentic Italian pizzas throughout the US that put the chains to shame. The only problem with most of them is that they didn't delievr. When I visited Texas the last few years, I would stay with my daughter's family, and before I went back to the house, after hunting, I would stop at a place called Florios, in San Antonio. and bring a couple pies back home. They were from New Jersey, where I'm from, and they have the NYC/New Jersey pizza down pat and are always busy. Their Calzones and Italian sub are also killer. 1

It may be Italian owned, but the person preparing some part of it is most likely thai, especially with the labor quota. Just having them hovering around spoils it into it not tasting right. 2 4

SpaceKadet Posted July 22 Posted July 22 PC pizza is not a pizza because they put pineapple on almost ever pizza. PINEAPPLE DOES NOT BELONG ON A PIZZA!!! EVER!!! Everybody knows that... The only good thing with PC is the New York crust and you can choose your own ingredients. But it's still too sweet. I had some great pizzas in Phuket 20 years ago, made by an Italian and baked in a wood fired oven. Also, pizzas in Sheraton Abu Dhabi pizzeria 30 years ago were outstanding. 5

I think they think covering everything in a bunch of sauce makes it better somehow. Just like putting every little thing in a plastic bag is better. Probably why I don't see them eating much bread, it's dry.

You'd be surprised just how many like pineapple on their pizza. I do, although it's usually trying a slice from others who have ordered it. I prefer Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, anchovies and extra mozzarella.
