2nd Bank Account?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have my 1 year extension already. I'm now thinking about my next extension in a ~years time, and the proof I'll need of my bank account status . In one years time i can imagine the amount of transactions that will occur in my account will be huge, and will create a lot of paperwork etc.

I'm thinking of opening another (2nd) bank account, that i can use for my day to day transactions.

So that when i reapply for extension, my main account with the 800,000 baht only has a few transactions making reproducing the statements easy.

Main account is Krungsri, I'm thinking my 2nd will be K-Bank

Is this a good idea? Any issues?

Thanks

  • It's a very good idea and indeed many folk have a "dedicated immigration account"  What you need to be careful of is moving the funds from existing account to new account.  Suggest you leave

  • We are farang meaning bottom of biscuit barrel.  In any event for those dealing with CW for extensions, the bank Letter and Bank Statement can be obtained in days prior to day of application (up

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. My main account with the visa money is in Bangkok Bank and I never touch it. Right now for "scan" I use my wife's Bangkok Bank account that is on the app on my phone. I keep hearing how the app is being disabled for people with a SIM card that doesn't match the name of the account they use, so I want a second account for the day-to-day stuff.

Kasikorn?

Suggest you leave the 800k in the existing account till the 3 months + after obtaining the extension.

Then transfer 400k into the new account.

If you plan to keep 800k all year round then after transferring the 400k next day or so transfer the other 400k

Note for your first extension after doing this you will need to show both accounts.

Including bank letters + bank statements.

Edit: two posts asking about Kasikorn. That's the option I would choose.

Same as BBL they are partner with WISE and have 2milion limit transfer.

Also can produce 12 month bank statement on the spot (unlike BBL)

I have 2 Krungsri bank accounts - one from Pattaya, and one in my home town.  That makes it simple to transfer between accounts if required.

My K-bank account was frozen because of this. I had to go to AIS to 'change' my SIM details - the number remains the same , then I had to return to the my K-bank branch to get my account reactivated - no problem!

Just to be clear, when i get my next 1 year extension I'll just need the main (800k) account evidence ?

Thanks

No. Immigration will look back to date of extension for compliance.

In fact can look back to 2 months prior to last application for extension.

That's where the existing account come into play.. They want to look at those months also.

Also note I suggested doing the transfer after the 3 month requirement to maintain 800k is past.

Then do the transfers in 2 hits.

Day or two apart.

Edit: unrelated, however for others not that if you use two accounts for immigration and decide to close one account.

That's fine but don't let the bank keep the closed account bank book.

I did and even though provided 12 month bank statement for closed account.. Immigration was not happy.

I ended up playing Ring A Ring a Rosie with head io.

My main account with krungsri that currently holds the 800k won't change. It's unlikely I'll even move  the 400k after 3 months.

Sort of on topic  K-bank (under immigration office)at Chaengwattana is closing on 12 Sept.

In an emergency, if immi want any further bank paperwork on the day of application, the nearest Kbank is IT Square and opens at 11am

Don't follow... If you are not going to open another account and transfer the funds then you do nothing.

For next extension just provide existing account bank statement and bank letter.

I plan to open 2nd account for day to day use , my main original account will keep the 800k all year untouched..

Yes, closing permanently,  merging with IT Square branch.

Got a letter today from them

Ok got it. Thought the new account was the one for immigration.

Understand now.

Yes good plan and simple.

Thanks for the update. Will be inconvenient for MANY

Too bloody straight! You'd think CW branch would be busier dealing with all non  o applications etc than ITSquare

We are farang meaning bottom of biscuit barrel.

In any event for those dealing with CW for extensions, the bank Letter and Bank Statement can be obtained in days prior to day of application (up to 7 days).

That only leaves bank book update on day of application.

That could be done at any branch.

I have two accounts at Bangkok Bank. Normal savings account and a "fixed deposit" acount where 800k is lying around since years.

Much easier to open with your current bank?

I still have that account but not needed for extension as I changed to 12 monthly transfers. Money now free for energency.

For 12 monthly a second account would be useful.

Fixed deposit account still allows to withdraw from the balance anytime just loosing future interest payment.

That is a condition to be accepted by immigration.

Fixed deposit has no card, no transaction via internet. Lowest risk.

Alternative:

I wonder whether banks would have a problem to just open a second savings account. Why not?

I asked Bangkok Bank (two years ago) if I could do this and they said no.

Maybe. But fixed deposited is a good method for 800k.

Not for transfers.

If opening at Kasikorn is hassle free then go for that.
