Pattaya is wooing Austrian tourists, focusing on sun, sea, and schnitzel! The city aims to expand its European fanbase with targeted attractions.

Mayor Poramet Ngampichet extended a warm welcome to Austrian Ambassador Wilhelm Maximilian Donko during a diplomatic meeting aimed at enhancing tourism connections. Their discussion focused on boosting Austrian tourism and cultural exchanges.

"Pattaya is a European favourite," said Mayor Poramet. "We want Austrians to dive into our lifestyle, staying longer and exploring more."

Ambassador Donko highlighted Pattaya's appeal for Austrians seeking extended vacations. With its cool proximity to Bangkok, top-notch hotels, and vibrant lifestyle, it’s becoming a potential second home for Central Europeans.

Plans include joint tourism campaigns and exclusive travel packages for Austrians. The city is eager to boost its Austrian profile at global travel expos.

Discussions also touched on enhancing infrastructure and services for Austrians. Future initiatives could see cultural exchanges in art, cuisine, and events, and educational programmes bringing Austrian students and professionals to Thailand.

"Tourism is about connection," said Donko. "Austria values Pattaya as a partner in fostering cultural ties."

Last year, 2.1 million Indian tourists visited Thailand. Now, Austria is adopting a targeted approach to ride the European interest wave.

Pattaya’s tropical charm, rich culture, and tourist-ready infrastructure give it a competitive edge. For Austria, it's a chance to share its culture and build enduring travel and educational bridges.

Then why are there 2 kangaroos in the picture?

I've only met two Austrians in Thailand in my entire life. They aren't coming. Just as well as they are even more skint than the working class Swiss.

In almost 25 years here I cannot recall ever meeting an Austrian tourist. Seems a strange target.

there was one near me, He had a classic bavarian style handlebar moustache ,  we called him "porno fritz" coz he was always showing photos of himself, copulating with various bargirls, Survived off EU handouts received for not growing things on his farm back home apparently

On the beach there? I guess there are still some Australians who might bring their girlfriends, but the topic isn't about them.

Some sort of schnitzel shortage happening in Austria? Run out of Vienna sausage?

An attraction of Thailand is real Thai food.... promoted to most countries I'd assume. Is there some tourist promo in Austria "Get the same schnitzel you get back home!"?

Having no police force is a touchy subject.

astrians are welll behaved people, not like rotten teeth brits, russians and other problematic nations. I never seen austrian in thailand before. I think thailand thinks that because they have a whorehouse at everycorner in austria, they will like pattaya?  I dont see them getting drunk more than brits etc....remember they are very high strung people, still affected how they loose war under Hitler...but i live near austria and nothing bad to say about them, very polite, never shouting in public, very obidient....

Right now Salzburg and Vienna are ablaze with conversation about Pattaya, where the people just cannot wait to go and sample the various schnitzels, fresh pretzels and craft beers that are available. In addition to the amazing cultural activities like the Mozart and jazz festivals. It is the talk of the town.

Tourism is about money, and image (especially when it's being tarnished)

You know the difference between Austrians & Aussies?

Plenty of Austrians in Phuket. Austrian Air fly to Bangkok. Though just because the ambassador met the mayor it hardly means the tourists will be flocking in.

Potty ain’t what it used to be, and it’s likely won’t ever return to its halcyon days.

Maybe.  But let's face it.  Mass cheap tourism is ruining destinations all over the world.

There aren't enough Austrians in this world to have any real impact on tourist numbers in Pattaya though.

A flight of Seagulls, and a flock of Austrians, hope they don't swarm around the airport.
