Have no problem with music torrents on qBittorrent. Have a few movies done in the past also. I understand using a VPN is safer although I haven't tried one. The music comes from various sources and websites.

I haven't done any torrenting.

It's totally ok here, right?

What sites do you use?

Any risk of malware / viruses when torrenting?

1337x, Pirate Bay, Ext Torrents, YTS torrents, EZTV... There are many. Music and video downloads are generally safe but there's always a chance of malware, particularly if a file is zipped and certainly if it's zipped and requires a password. All files downloaded should be scanned by a good anti-virus app before opening.

VPNs are necessary in those countries where they police the illegal distribution of content. The US, Canada, etc regularly have people arrested for distribution of copyrighted movies. Not checked here so no problem.

The vast majority of expat torrenting is of copyrighted content.

So using a VPN shields your identity if the Thai government, Thai ISPs, or the content owners ever decide to go after violators as happens aggressively in the US etc.

I'm  not saying they do or will but they could.

In the US massive financial fines.

Watch out for SCR, JAR, ZIP, RAR and EXE files and anything with zero seeds. There is plenty of malware out there. Look at the contents, not the label.

Avoid downloading software, most is corrupt. There are free or cheap apps available for most needs.  OpenOffice is a great example.

Until they do. But then they will address the issue by making the use of PCs illegal for white skinned foreigners.

Just as they made mobile banking useless for us.

Why is mobile banking useless for us?

Oh sure….it’s totally ok to be a thief here.

Why not just pay the $5 to rent a movie from Apple or pony up  $10 a month for a Netflix/Amazon Prime account instead of stealing it?

Limited to 50,000 a day?.........I think I can manage if I'm careful, but might need to have a word with the wife.

Now I won't be able to sleep at night.

Ok, I will pony up for Netflix.

If money is so tight that you can’t afford to rent a movie….

If I pony up for a CD, I will share it with my friends and family if I think they will like it. I'm not so much concerned about the profits of large corporations. Good humans share what they have whilst keeping enough for themselves.

Netflix? No thank you. I watch perhaps one movie every six months.

If it's freely available, I'll just help myself thank you.

Your ISP will shut down your internet connection immediately and they're ON that action 24 x 7.

The first time you must call them with hat in hand. Not sure what they do a second time but I'm sure those financial fines are on the menu.

VPN cures all that. Just make sure you have the kill switch on.

I wouldn't ever consider downloading/uploading Torrents to any of my devices. Use a Seedbox as suggested earlier.

Until you are in ICU asked to pay a 500k deposit for a triple stent angioplasty... Someone here, in that situation, had his wife running around to borrow money from friends...

What has this got to do with the OP?

Absolutely. Here you will most certainly run very fast into ISP throttling and if that is not happening you will being put behind CGNAT so you can't share anything back.

Where do you get it for 35/month?   I’m seeing a higher rate….but still quite cheap.
