Bangkok Bank app face scan problems

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Does anyone else have problems using the Bangkok Bank mobile app face scan feature, for large value transactions? I must have tried it 60 times this evening before it recognised me, which gets tedious, typing all the information again. Is it trained on all faces, only Asian ones, different nationalities and ages? It doesn't seem fit for purpose ...

  • I initially had problems, but realized it was the lighting, so I tried a different room with better lighting and never had anymore problems.

I had problems at first, but once you get the lighting right and 'obey' the instructions about showing teeth and smiling quickly enough, it works fine.

hmm, thanks folks. I tried outside but it got too hot plus whining little flies, then tried inside again. 'only' took 21 logins, 210 face scans today before it worked. sigh, another 2 days of this malarkey 😬 i am 68, a bank employee said it had problems with ageing faces. Doesn't help not sleeping well, Thai wife snoring like a 🦬 so it thinks i have face coverings 😷

Hardly ever works for me, keeps telling me to take my hat off.

Vs UK bank app that recognises me instantly.

Think bkb cut a few too many corners making their app.

I also came to that conclusion before dumping it in sheer frustration a while ago. Their (IMHO) much better thought-out online banking service is much more straightforward to use, I think.

Sorry to see that. Right now, my accts can still be accessed with online IBanking. I like the convenience of using IBanking as well as the app. I hope they don't discontinue it for existing accts.

Better prepare.

I think they will discontinue like other banks.

Cost cutting at all corners.

Bangkok Bank is particularly rigid.

@JimGant, @TroubleandGrumpy - are you aware of this disastrous piece of news? Looks like the days of Bangkok Bank's internet banking service may well be numbered, with existing account holders having their poxy app rammed down their throats, whether they like it or not! 🤬

I suspect that the best we could hope for would be for Bangkok Bank to allow existing users of their internet banking service to switch to a business account with internet banking access, just as Krungsri did before pulling the plug on their internet banking service.

That's a bummer but I'm already registered. The Mobile Banking never works for me and I don't want it as I prefer using a REAL computer to work on and not some hard-to-see, hard-to-use toy but I dread them cancelling the service.

Bangkok Bank app face scan problems.

Yes , We tried the Face scan for the BBank app just to be prepared for when they Axe the I Banking .

So far No luck will go to the bank and they can sort this crap.

I have heard that even some bank staff have had  problems with the  Face scans.

First time I had to do a face scan with KB mobile app I was told it did not see any eyes.

Shifted my face towards more light and scan was completed.

I have the BBL app on my tablet. Face scanning can take forever!

Hold it for portrait, picture turns to landslide, hold it landslide, picture turns to portrait! Nightmare! 😬

I tried maybe 50 times at home using various lighting, never worked.  Went to my bank branch.  A bank employee held my phone instructing me to use various facial expressions.  It was comical.  Haha.  Finally worked after about 25 attempts.  Ridiculous!

I use a different bank (Krungsri), but I also had the same problem recently. I tried dozens of times to get the app to recognize my face, to no avail. I went into the branch, and the lady there first upped the lighting on my phone to the maximum level, and then had me hold my phone straight out (rather than looking downward at it, as I had been doing at home), and it finally worked. Strangely, I never used to have any problem with this, so it must be the result of a recent "upgrade" of the app.

It doesn't help the fact you need to remove your glasses then try to read blink your eyes show your teeth ect ect.worked once for me in 14 months I keep trying yesterday I sent 6x 30.000 which is ok but not 1x 180.000

Never works for me. Went to branch and was preceded by another westerner who also couldn't get it to work despite many attempts. BB took another photo of me but mine still didn't work. Asked the teller to turn it off or do the action for me but they said they couldn't. Strangely my UK bank facial recognition did work despite never attending for a photo???

BB app facial (farcical) recognition is a joke. Having to resort to on line service to overcome but I see that BB and others are stopping new applications for on line banking!

yes - twice in the last month - over 50kstg and on SCB

My problem with face scanning on the Bangkok Bank app is that I can't read the instructions without my reading glasses. So, since I have to remove my glasses for the app to recognize my face it's impossible for me to use it. In one case I had to go into my branch where the staff led me through the various steps as I couldn't read them on the screen. They did say that this is a fairly common problem, so not just me.

Yes same thing went to the branch in bkk did everything signed my name 12 times two months later the bkk app  blocked me went to a local branch  they just wanted a copy of my AIS bill from my phone app. Unlocked 3 hours later then took me 69 times finally face recognition was accepted. Move banks don't stay with Bangkok Bank any longer even people working in the branch laugh! Never have these problems with Krung Thai.  And they're fixed income accounts funds  make double the amount of income than Bangkok Bank.

I've banked with Bangkok Bank for 20 years without problems.

I got the same error message to take off my hat, when, of course, I wasn't wearing one.  Also told me to center my face in the 'green frame' but the frame sometimes wasn't there and sometimes disappeared as I was doing the smiling with teeth or the blinking 3 times.

I'll definitely be giving my existing account with them the heave-ho when and if they eventually close their internet banking service to us existing personal account holders and they don't offer us the alternative of business accounts with internet banking access as Krungsri did before pulling the plug on their online service. I've just spent all morning making unsuccessful attempts at producing an acceptable face scan for their app, and have now thrown in the towel in disgust and despair. Instead I plan to make periodic Wise transfers directly to my wife's account (mine largely acts as an intermediary between hers and my UK account in any event).

My view of Thai banks has always been rather less than positive for various reasons ever since I moved here nearly 17 years ago, and their current headlong dash to impose unworkable apps on us has done nothing other to exacerbate this negative view. In particular, the facial recognition nonsense which they are inflicting on us has IMHO been designed to mask their own shortcomings and inability to provide secure online banking services off their own bat, without the need to place the burden squarely on the shoulders of their account holders.

Go out of province and try to get anything done with Bangkok Bank and see what happens.
