WISE transfer times getting longer - why?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

For some  years now I have been using Wise (formerly Transferwise) with no problems until recently. Setting up a transfer Wise usually said 'should arrive in seconds' and indeed it did. Now it is a different story, one made at 6.30 this morning is now expected to arrive 8 hours later while another one made around 1.30pm will now arrive tomorrow around 2.30pm. Both in spite of Wise already holding the money.

I have now formally complained because in both cases the pop-up advised 'should arrive in seconds' but once the transfer was set up the 8 hour and 24 hour time scale was advised. The 8 hour transfer arrived at 2.30pm a few minutes ago.

Why are Wise holding back money already in their possession? Is it because of interest earned on the no doubt huge totals they handle?

Try sending directly from your home country bank to Thailand, using Swift, and see if you get it in 8 or even 24 hours

Yes, ,my test amount was next day vs seconds to Bangkok Bank.

Maybe it is AML filters now.

I'm a pensioner who also supports another family and cannot transfer earlier as the money simply isn't there. It is not a big pension either, reduced annually now because the UK Government have not increased the tax-free amount for 5 years now  so the tax steadily becomes more and more as index-linked increases disappear in the tax. Until last year it wasn't taxed but now it is with the new Labour Government the fools mistakenly elected. 2 more years before they get forced out at the next election as the people have already learnt their lesson once again.

So we all struggle pension day to pension day with a lower pension and increased prices across the board. Those smug s.o.b's with big pensions and private means can go pee up a rope - some of us struggle but so far at least it is affordable here just where we'd freeze or starve in the UK.

For both accounts in LOS it is to the Bangkok Bank.

From my UK bank sending direct it costs £10 to send, and to receive the money Bangkok Bank charge the equivalent of another £10 and it takes a minimum of 3 days to arrive so I don't need to try, time and economy meant using Wise who were the best before.

What reason are you selecting on the Wise site for the transfer?

If you select "funds for long-term stay" then you can expect to see your transfer early the same afternoon if make your transfer  reasonably early in the morning and the following afternoon if you make your transfer later in the day.

If you select any other reason than "funds for long-term stay" then your transfer will be almost instantaneous.

Actually I have always selected "sending money home to family" for us but now that Thailand is on the personal tax hunt for the other family I support I call it a "gift" as that absolves them from tax liability.

I think this is a Thailand thing, not a Wise thing. I am visiting the Philippines at the moment and it takes seconds to send money to my account here.

Online International bank transfers from my UK bank to my Thai bank take around 24-hours.  Never quite understood why using a 3rd party like Wise helps?

Bottom line is the Luciferians and faggabots don't wanna make it easy for you to transact commerce.

Glitches and hiccups are coded into the matrix to throw you off balance (pardon the pun)

Best to always deal with paper money.

Until they ban it because ...

I have made a topic about this too and again it shows that WISE is witholding the money.. It is blamed on the Bangkok Bank, but they have nothing to do with it. I have used Remitly and it arrives in seconds, even on Sundays and holidays, but WISE keeps on telling me that it is a holiday and the banks are not working, or that it is the bank to blame that it takes so long. On my question why Remitly can do it, they don't answer it, as they have to deal on the same days and holidays. Wise says they have to process every transaction. but that is of course not true. I worked on a Bankoffice for more than 28 years and everything is digitalized already for many many years and only exceptions are being checked. Wise is making money out the transactions. They have an amount of THB for a certain prize and they will process the transactions for that price. But when the exchange rates are changing they keep the money to make profits and blame the banks...

The strange thing is that with Kasikornbank there are less problems, so now I sometimes transfer money to my partners account at Kasikorn, it arrives quickly and than I transfer it to my account...Wise was once very reliable, but nowadays I get less trust in them.. Kasikorn can work now but how long it is not sure.. probably they will change that too

Not any longer.  Since around May/June all deposits to Bangkok Bank are deposited in your account shortly after 2:00pm no matter what you select as the reason for transfer.  Same day if you start the process early enough, next day if not.

One guy posted differently recently but I suspect that was because he didn't use internet or mobile banking.

It's about the overall amount that you receive.

If you next transfer:

Do the math: amount received / amount deducted from your home country bank.

Kind of effective rate.

Publish this number plus currency and date sent.

Then one can compare overall.

correct.

2 pm if transferred before 10 am.

the next day at 2pm if after 10am

Forgot to make it clear: I do not care at all about seconds vs 24 or up to 72 hours over the weekend.

For years I do transfer to Bangkok Bank. Arrives either same day 2 PM of next day or Monday after weekend.

I only care about getting most out of my money.

Should also have mentioned next working day not just next day, as KhunBENQ has indicated.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of the change. It's a while since I've used a reason other than "funds for long-term stay".

I had to do several transfers the past couple of weeks using Wise to KBank. Each arrived in seconds as advertised.

It depends. Bangkok bank are taking longer but other banks are fast. I am thinking of a couple of transfers I made today.

Hesus Christmas... Do we have to have the same thread every week or 2? Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it takes a while. Plan accordingly.

I did a transfer yesterday morning. Notification in Wise app said "Your money has been sent." It arrived sometime yesterday afternoon.

I am newly back in Thailand and went to initiate a Wise transfer to my Bangkok Bank account.

It said the money would arrive next Wednesday! That is not going to work. This time I withdrew money from my Schwab account and deposited it in my BBL account, but I need a longer term solution.

The exchange rates on Remitly and Western Union are crap. Any alternatives, aside from continuing to use my Schwab debit card?

That's because Monday & Tuesday are public holidays in TH. So banks not open.

Sent 1000 pounds to my daughter this week.  By the time I came off the computer maybe 1 min I had an email saying it was in her account. She checked the account about one hour later and it was there.
