It doesn't make any sense, because he has a pension coming in. A pension is enough for a flight.  Doesn't add up.

  • Always have health insurance.   Rent never buy.

Yes, everyone should stop getting into relationships and start families and just sleep with hookers.    How did he let his wife spiral into drug addiction though? You would know if your wife

Not perfect, but sure as hell will be much better than wasting away in Thailand.

Does he have a pension coming in? Not all Aussies are entitled to their pension when living abroad. I believe the rule is that you have to go back and live there for two years to qualify. If he hasn't done that, he'd have been relying on the house sale funds that his Mrs has squandered!

The story states that he had been a millionaire - so he would not have qualified for the Aged pension.

Baht millionaire.  Sounds impressive don'it?

Once a millionaire, Marcus entrusted his wife with his retirement money after selling a townhouse in Bangkok for over 4 million Thai baht.

4 million baht townhouse?  That's ~US$125K.  I suppose they had a two-story shophouse, likely in Pathum Thani.  Hardly a millionaire's mansion.

I don’t know the family circumstances in Australia. A one way air ticket from Bangkok to Sydney is approximately $600 max. If there is family, surely they could pay the airfare for him. Then years ago, maybe family tried to warn him of the perils of being involved with a Thai woman.  I hope he makes it home.

At 75 he probably has no family in Oz left.

At 70 I certainly have no family in the UK left, all dead.

He did a big mistake trusting his thai wife. Now he understand what he did wrong.

Some foreigners sell all they have and think they hit the jackpot. Many cut contact with the family's and when get problems they try to connect again I hope he get help to get back to his country and never ever return to Thailand.

Im sure his embassy want help him with tickets only make contact with his relatives.

If some from my country need help from the embassy they will help with tickets if they get a guarantee from relatives or if on pension the government can give it.My friend get help from my embassy with tickets.. money for his hotelbill and food money because he had pension and they took the money from his tax return later that year.

The man is an Australian. He wants to return to Australia.

If he said he was a millionaire - I think it is safe to assume he is referring to Australian dollars , and not Thai Baht!

Even You would be a millionaire in India, with Rupees.

White,

Us white folk are all united, don't ya know.

And he should have at least 400K for Immigration purposes.

Why only 400K ??

So just a thought, perhaps his family have disowned him because he got himself a Thai wife who injected all his moolah and left them nothing.

As for getting home? I mean, a flight to Oz is peanuts. I fear there's something sketchy here.

How did he let his wife spiral into drug addiction though? You would know if your wife is taking meth and intervene at some point? Sad stuff.

I think there's a big age gap (30 years) and she ran rings around him.

Yeah, if he spent the 400K he may be using an agent.

“The unfolding situation underscores the complex challenges faced by Marcus and demonstrates the importance of taking swift action to reunite him with loved ones in Australia. “

What the unfolding situation underscores is the importance of never, ever, entrusting large sums of money to a Thai person.

Feel for the guy but it's hard to comprehend how you can dig yourself a hole as deep as this one...if penniless his life in Oz ain't going to be much better

Some aspects of this sad story don't add up but one thing is for sure, the loss of a leg is enough to unhinge most people.
