It doesn't make any sense, because he has a pension coming in. A pension is enough for a flight.  Doesn't add up.

  • Always have health insurance.   Rent never buy.

Yes, everyone should stop getting into relationships and start families and just sleep with hookers.    How did he let his wife spiral into drug addiction though? You would know if your wife

I feel sorry for his amputation, but for the rest, I can't understand how he's been ending up in this situation . U know u got a wife addicted to drugs . U know u are old and one legged . U know u got little money left .( Hope u not struggle with alcohol addiction yr self ..) .  That's when you fly back home before is to late .... anyway good luck in Australia, where , it seems to me , not many are waiting for you or the ticket would be already in yr hands .

I don’t know the family circumstances in Australia. A one way air ticket from Bangkok to Sydney is approximately $600 max. If there is family, surely they could pay the airfare for him. Then years ago, maybe family tried to warn him of the perils of being involved with a Thai woman.  I hope he makes it home.

He must have a pension of some sort.  He had to have money before.  Needs to get to bank change ATM card then get ticket at end of month

If he had family to contact her could do it himself.

What has he been doing for visa

“The unfolding situation underscores the complex challenges faced by Marcus and demonstrates the importance of taking swift action to reunite him with loved ones in Australia. “

What the unfolding situation underscores is the importance of never, ever, entrusting large sums of money to a Thai person.

Your advice is applicable, not only to a "Thai person".

Why would you entrust a large sum of money to anyone, regardless of their Nationality or their relationship. ?

So just a thought, perhaps his family have disowned him because he got himself a Thai wife who injected all his moolah and left them nothing.

As for getting home? I mean, a flight to Oz is peanuts. I fear there's something sketchy here.

Him being an amputee, old and frail, maybe it’s more of a physical assistance he needs more than  monetary assistance

I trust my son. Apart from his character, he is independently wealthy.

And I think in future years I will be able to trust my daughter. She needs to mature, but I think it will be the case.

i have a friend who i have known for 30 years in Singapore who I would trust completely. Works for a bank, independently wealthy.

Other than those, I wouldn’t trust anybody.

As to circumstances, I guess it would always be related to my health as to whether there would be a need. Alzheimer’s can be a bitch.

Strange how many here are taking the p_ss out of a 75 year old fellow farangy....🤔

Thinking their own life will always be perfect...........:whistling:.............😉

Yep

Regardless of his bad choices, the poor old bugger gets cleaned out, loses a leg and some nasty cnuts think it's funny.

The mind boggles.

Can't some one with a heart living in his area drop in a check on him , are we that cold hearted in Thailand, what ever he caught up with 75  years old , I'm not in Thailand but gee have we turned into the very people that you see in every Thai vallage. No land of smiles. There a Aussie bar in Thailand get it sorted

My mother used to say .... There's no fool like an old fool ...

4 million THB drug addiction? she'd be dead long before she was able to consume that much. More likely she either stashed the money or gave it to family or Thai boyfriend/husband. Very sad for the guy but he dug his own grave, probably literally.

First mistake: dating someone who's into him for his money (30 year difference and drug addiction kind of spells a rental).

Second mistake: buying property in the LOS. Probably in her name, too.

Third mistake: trusting her with money. That's a bad idea with any woman, but a Thai 30 years younger than him? yeah, no.

And worst mistake of all: not leaving some sources of income outside Thailand. He's not new here - should've known better.

Sad, but cautionary tale.

Also, she may have had a gambling addiction.  It’s easy for people to condemn him, everyone is not of the same nature. Some people are naive,  gullible and too trustworthy for their own good

ChatGPT :

Is health insurance available for 75 year old expats living in Thailand?

“Yes, it is possible for a 75-year-old expat living in Thailand to obtain health insurance—but with some important caveats around availability, premiums, and coverage terms.

Availability & Age Limits

  • Some insurers accept new applicants up to age 75, with renewals allowed well into the 80s or even 90s, depending on the provider. For instance, certain plans accept applications up to 80 years old and can be renewed up to age 90.
  • International insurers like Cigna Global offer senior plans without age limits, meaning you can apply at any age and continue renewing.”

UDON THANI - A 75-year-old Australian man is stranded in Thailand, desperate to return to his homeland after a string of misfortunes. After a severe accident left him amputated, his funds dwindled when his Thai wife succumbed to drug addiction. With just 1,520 Thai baht remaining, he’s appealing for help to get back to Australia.

In Udon Thani’s Ban Dung district, local chief Boontom Sorumpa reported the dire situation of Marcus Own, an Australian pensioner marooned after misplacing trust in his wife, leading to financial ruin. Once a millionaire, Marcus entrusted his wife with his retirement money after selling a townhouse in Bangkok for over 4 million Thai baht. Now, with his wife undergoing drug rehabilitation, he faces life alone in a squalid, neglected home.

Marcus’s tragic tale began eight months ago when he suffered a car accident, resulting in the amputation of his left leg. He moved to Ban Dong Dara with his wife, Phikun, 45, but encountered further woes as her methamphetamine addiction spiralled. The couple, who travelled frequently between Thailand and Australia during happier times, now find their lives shattered as Phikun battles her addiction.

In a heart-wrenching interview, Marcus shared his desire to return to his family in Australia, where he hopes to live out his remaining days. He struggles without support in a once-grand Spanish-style home, now only a shadow of its former self. Confronted with the wreckage of his life, he pleads with authorities and the local community to assist his journey back home.

Village chief Boontom reported witnessing Phikun in distress, exhibiting erratic behaviour prior to his admission to rehab. The local community has shown compassion by providing Marcus with meals, but his plight remains dire. Meanwhile, law enforcement plans to escort him to the Australian consulate, aiming to secure his passage home, reported CH7 news.

Marcus’s story has touched many in Ban Dong Dara, a poignant reminder of how quickly fortunes can change. His aged mother-in-law, Tting, acknowledges her daughter’s struggles with addiction but remains uncertain about her ability to care for her husband.

The unfolding situation underscores the complex challenges faced by Marcus and demonstrates the importance of taking swift action to reunite him with loved ones in Australia. The Australian embassy’s response will be crucial, as coordinated efforts proceed to ensure Marcus Own can safely return to his homeland.
