Immigration authorities in Samut Sakhon have arrested a 48-year-old Myanmar woman for illegally operating a language school for young children.

The Samut Sakhon Immigration Office, under the direction of Pol. Col. Pokchat Chaisukwat and Deputy Pol. Lt. Col. Setthapong Chumueang, launched the operation on 14 August following complaints about foreigners engaging in unauthorised work.

Officers, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Jirayu Cherdchai, inspected a commercial building in Kok Krabue Subdistrict, Mueang District. They found Miss Mar Lar Aung had been teaching language classes to over 100 children, many of whom are children of migrant workers.

Investigations revealed that Miss Aung had advertised the classes online through Facebook, charging tuition fees of 1,500–2,000 baht per student. Payments were reportedly routed through a foundation account, purportedly as donations for educational and religious purposes, with total funds circulating around 500,000 baht.

Authorities confirmed that Miss Aung held a worker visa permitting only manual labour and had no legal right to teach. She has been charged with working beyond her visa permissions and providing false information to officials, which could potentially cause harm to the public.

Miss Aung has been handed over to local police for legal proceedings, and her permission to remain in Thailand is expected to be revoked.

Surely they could have hired one of the thousands of trilingual Thai-Burmese-English language tutors who are now out of work because of her.

Sad. No Thais with those abilities would offer classes to the poor children who can’t afford it. Why bother someone who is actually helping the education of the children.

Shows only how narrow-minded those geeks are literally everywhere in this country.

Given the fact, that during my working days I sponsored language and computer classes to staff which the company would pay for I obviously had a look at the "schools". For computer classes I ended up doing those in-house with/by my own IT staff - overseas trained and fluent in English; for teaching the English language there was ultimately only one option, the British Council. All other "schools" were too much Thai-style and focussed on everything except the main subject for what my staff went there in the first place.

Education and Thailand - please never use these two words in the same book. Having said that, I am sure that there are good teachers but the material is carp and hence the Burmese lady kept immigrant kids off the roads and tried something useful.

Good on you, Thai Authorities, I feel soooooooo much safer now after you've booked this alien from different milky ways busying herself in an illegal activity.

Agreed. Like it or not, English is mandatory to get ahead in today's world.

My daughter speaks English like a native Floridian (I'm a Florida Man). She also speaks Japanese and French. She's a sharp 19 year old. Pretty too!

Poor Baby has a Florida-man as a Daddy...She loves me. I love to laugh at us.
