SIA SA KET - Thaksin Shinawatra has donated 15 prefabricated homes worth 3.5 million baht to the residents of Si Sa Ket province. At the donation ceremony in Khun Han district, Thaksin Shinawatra handed over these homes to families impacted by recent border tensions with Cambodia.

Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai delegated Deputy Interior Minister Theerarat Samretvanit to officially receive the homes on behalf of the government. Police General Surasith Sankhapong also attended as a representative, highlighting the aid these homes will provide to families whose residences were completely destroyed.

The homes come fully equipped, ensuring displaced families can settle in quickly and comfortably. This initiative highlights Thaksin's continued involvement in humanitarian efforts, aiming to support those who have faced hardships due to cross-border disturbances, reported Siam Rath.

Local residents expressed gratitude for the much-needed support during challenging times. As the region stabilises, the focus remains on rebuilding lives and restoring normalcy for affected communities.

In summary, Thaksin's donation offers immediate relief and a fresh start for many families in Si Sa Ket, demonstrating solidarity and community support during turmoil.

I think most foreigners will see this supposed act of kindness for what it is. Bribery to shed him into a good light pending his court hearing and his other legal troubles.

But i think many Thais will not view it this way and instead be hopeful he dishes out more money to others.

Wife says Thai social media has been neutral in comments about this. They neither praise nor object to what Thaksin is doing. So maybe there are a few that know he is trying to buy his way out of trouble.

Nothing in the world is for free.... he gives small money ,, drones, boots, 15 homes for 3,5 million....while he even count how much money he has... This are only peanuts for him and for what does he wants in return?? No convictions?, votes? a good name unless his whole family is so corrupt and incompetent???

What ever became of all those low income houses he was building in Sattahip?

At about 230,000 baht each, one can imagine the quality and size of these houses, which probably are not equipped with electricity and water for this price.

Unfortunately, in Isan and notably in Sisaket, he is very popular because 25 years ago he opened the (flood)gates of credit to the locals, who are now in debt up to their eyeballs, but can't make the connection between their situation and his populist policies.

That's not the point.

He spent 3.5 million. And that's good. How much the other "HiSos" donated?

...Isn't It All...'Other People's Money' To Begin With...(?)

🤔🤔🤔

Well, I don't suppose the poor people whose houses were destroyed by Cambodian shells are objecting, or wondering where the shekels came from.

What about all the other baht trillionaires? What are they donating for the peasants along the border and for the soldiers including the families of dead soldiers?

3,5 million THB seems to be a lot but is barely 100.000 USD... Do you really think if you have2,2 billion USD it is a lot???? Maybe it is the spending on a weekend for shopping and dining for them, but here in Thailand it seems to be a lot. And you are right other people don't do anything, but on the other hand if you give with so much publicity it is not real charity. Most charity is be done without publicity, that comes from the heart.

For me it's a good sign he donates this money and help people. And honestly if he could spend more - because he got sooo much - doesn't matter to me.

He did the right thing to the right time.

You're talking complete nonsense!!! For 230,000 THB, you can build decent houses with a living room, one bathroom, and two bedrooms. And of course, they'll have water and electricity. This might seem unbelievable to an uninformed foreigner, but it's true.

You are a good man.

No it is not. Thaksin was a very successful businessman before he went into politics. He always was generous to the poor , and he was the only one . He did a lot to help-Phuket families after the Tsunami and also when the bird flu  stopped all farms working. He personally gave a huge show on Bangla rd and encouraged everyone to eat chicken, giving it away to Thais for free. He had all hotels and restaurants present on Soi Bangla , and that’s when we saw how poor the Phuket people really were, they walked to get there when the buses were full, they came from everywhere in the hills around. He did some bad actions with the drug smugglers, but otherwise he was loved.
I don’t see many Thai politicians helping the poor, not then, not now.
