Now Skype is dead, what are people using to call Thai landlines

Featured Replies

I'd used Skype for decades but now it is gone, what do you use to call for instance your Thai bank who only has a landline and you cannot use WhatsApp or LINE ?

Specifically from the UK.

The telephone, the one with the Thai sim, can even do WiFi calling send/receive text while outside of the country and not charged extra. And do the same with the US sim.

I recently spent £25 in top up credit on my Giff Gaff number from here to Metro Bank UK in a never ending queue after that failed my Mrs said try your AIS sim put in 003 then +44----and its 10 baht a minute still more expensive than Skype but 90% cheaper than Giff Gaff🤔

To contact your Thai bank's call center?

Yes, say when in the UK, so unable to use the Thai mobile as it would be roaming in the UK and stupidly expensive.

I want to call the Thai bank from the UK, not the UK bank from Thailand. Sorry if that was not clear.

Decent thought, not sure why it would default to wifi calling rather than roaming calling unless you had no credit on the phone ?

I would use Rebtel. The calls are dirt cheap to mobile or fixed line numbers.

This one.

It allows you to have an EU number and to call in several countries around the world as a local, including Thailand.

It doesn’t default to WiFi calling, it’s a setting in the phone, and it works as long as the sim is active, it’s just a method to circumvent roaming on other cellular networks.

Only available for people with a German residential address according to Play Store. 😟

Possibly, depending on which bank.

I would be a bit wary on giving my credit card details to some phone service company based in some eastern europen nation. No offense.

I call Australia using mytello frequently. Extremely cheap. I've contacted them for advice & always respond within 20 minutes or so. Very happy with them.

003  International Call;

I pay 159 baht for 40 minutes (valid for 30 days) on AIS 003 package.  Rate 3.71 baht/minute. For calls to Germany, UK, Japan, France.

Packages for calls to other countries are even cheaper.

https://www.ais.th/en/consumers/package/international/international-call/003

Or dial *777*3804#

NOTE: There is also a 005 call package which is supposed to give even clearer calls, but a bit more expensive. Around 20b/min to UK

Plus a 00500 service at 7b/min peak, 4b/min off peak for calls to UK.

Download the mytello app to your phone, load some credit and call anywhere in the world. Cheap as chips.

mytello works well for me …cheap and easy …

VYKE works well about $10 a year and call costs similar to skype

Voip.ms

You can keep your number {or you could have} or select any the have available.  0.85 USD per month to have the number.  All calls to US numbers less than .01 USD per minute.

Works exactly like skype.   Load 20 bucks into your account and it let's you know when it gets low to refill.

Using since April and wish I had found it years ago.

YMMV

Rebtel is great, but for those of us who need a dedicated US number that can be used to call or receive texts that doesn't work.
