Bangkok Bank - No yellow book, no new account

Why do you say kasikorn is best

thanks

That's taken out of context.

Someone was asking about alternative to BBL.

Most banks it's 6 of one half dozen of the other.

For me I want large transfer available.

Here are limits below using wise...

No big deal but I just recommend K bank.

Also unlike BBL will provide 12 month bank statement on the spot.

I wouldn't touch BBL given recent shenanigans.

Most likely no issue with UOB.

  • 2,000,000 THB: For transfers to Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank.
  • 1,499,999 THB: For transfers to Siam Commercial Bank.
  • 500,000 THB: For transfers to all other recipient banks in Thailand

OP should try another branch as this is Thailand and rules are made up or applied on a daily changing basis depending on the mood of "god" behind the counter.

  • You mistake was choosing BBL.

Just a heads up for expats. I have one account with Bangkok Bank and tried to open a new one. They now require a yellow book, a residence cert isn't enough anymore.

In Nakhon Sawan, Bangkok Bank refused me a second account because I didn't have a yellow book. This was 2022

I then asked about getting a bank statement printout on date of my next Imm. Visit.

No problem come in on the same day as visa extension.

Fine if it's a 6-month statement that you're after. But you'll need to go back after a few days for a 12-month statement since Bangkok Bank branches don't issue these statements on the spot.

Wait.... Bangkok Bank operates in USA. Maybe the reason for this crackdown is because USA loves fining banks for money laundering.

Does anyone know if this requirement for a yellow book applies to SCB bank?

Never had a problem before.

The bank knows it's for visa extension, why wouldn't they give 12 months like every other visit?

Would only have half a page of typing as I only usually visit this bank and branch 1 time a year.

Using Wise, the permitted transfer amount differs according to the country. From Canada, for example, the limit is just over 200 000 THB.

Not really interested in any rules Canada may have.

I was replying to alternative to BBL.

The similarities to BBL regarding using WISE is Kasikorn.

Both those banks WISE allows Max 2 mil per transfer.

Some banks the max is 500k.

This is very true. I tried to open a joint account with my Thai girlfriend at Bangkok bank (I already have my own account with them), they said no. We went to a different branch and were able to do it no problem.

For renewal of extension.

Yesterday had first hand report (via pm) of fella on extension retirement being made to sign a "bogus form" freezing the funds for next 4 months.

The 4 months starts from date of "Bank Letter" for immigration.

Despite the 800k already being in the account for 2 months.

This report is against reports of the 4 months starting from when balance was 800k.

I had similar with the main branch of SCB bank in Hua Hin recently.

They requested I sign forms to ‘freeze’ the 800K for 2 months before they would issue a letter for immigration.

Was it freeze for two months.

How long had the account balance been 800k prior to attending bank for Bank Letter?

I tried to open an account recently at Kasikorn in Hua Hin. Took my freehold condo blue book and title deeds with my name on. They refused to open an account without a certificate of residence or yellow book. Walked into Krungsri a few steps away and they opened an account on the spot with those documents. Have previously opened accounts with Bangkok Bank (over 15 years ago) and SCB (c. 4 years ago) using exactly the same documents and no certificate of residence or yellow book has ever been required.

Same yellow bank They wanted

Passport

Visa copy

Yellow book

I have had an account with them for many years. But, I need another account.

Which bank would you recommend for ease?

I have accounts with BBL, KrungSri and KBank.

KBank is way ahead of the others, great banking app and ( in my branch at least) helpful, well trained staff.

I would advise anyone now holding more than one bank account to make sure you keep them open and current.  I have 5 different bank accounts and when my Thai partner wonders if I should close any of them I always say no.  Good, as a farang, to have more than one choice in banks to use and it's easier to keep a bank account open than, it seems, to open a new one these days.

I am planning to open a bank account with Siam Commercial Bank tomorrow hoping a certificate of residence is sufficient as proof of address as they told me last month.Has anyone been asked for a yellow house book recently at this bank?

Following on from above does the receipt from your phone provider have to be current would one from July be ok?

Please report back your account of opening a/c with SCB.

Current extension stamp from a Non O + COR should be sufficient.

If you have a lease, DTL etc have that with you.

Should not require a yellow book but these days who knows

Many posters have been saying this (need to come in and update your info). Neither SCB nor Kasikorn have asked me to do anything - I live in Bangkok.

If the copy of your passport that they have is still within validity, were they still asking you to come in and show them something else - like what. specifically, only your visa stamps? And is this happening just in Pattaya, or Bangkok too?

About 5 months ago, I voluntarily updated my passport information on my account with BBL in Udon Thani. They specifically sought out my current long-stay entitlement and stamps in the passport and entered it in their system.

I opened an account last month at Kasikorn on the main road in Hua Hin.

They opened an account for me with just my passport (with O retirement stamp) and my Thai driving license as proof of address, but were happy to accept my rental agreement too.

If your passport (number) is still the same, it should be accepted.

I believe this is the form you need for Jomtien

pm me if you want the form in a printable resolution, for some reason the forum software squishes the image resolution far too much.

I don't think Jomtien will accept that form you linked to  they have their own 'special' version which I posted above.

Correct. The link has blurred form.

He could obtain form from jomtien immigration on day of application.

Here is link to Pattaya expats club with advice to obtaining COR. Required docs etc.

In reality immigration often does not require all listed docs.

Wrong link.
Click on list number 30 here https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/downloads_en/ to download.

Same form as posted above by @johng
