A Thai man is under scrutiny after a viral video showed his dog hanging perilously from his pickup truck in Udon Thani. The incident, sparking public outrage, unfolded on Sumsao-Samphrao Road in the Mueang district on the evening of 24th August.

A concerned motorist spotted the brown dog dangling from the vehicle, its collar tied to the truck, and attempted to alert the driver by honking and flashing his headlights. The driver, however, did not stop immediately.

Unable to get his attention, the motorist captured a video of the alarming scene. Only after reviewing his rear-view mirror did he see the truck finally pulling over. Fearing the worst for the dog, which remained motionless, the motorist shared the footage on Facebook to identify the driver. The video gained traction after being reposted by the Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WDT).

Authorities, aided by the foundation, soon tracked down the vehicle's owner. The man defended his actions, claiming he was rushing his sick pet to a hospital because it hadn’t eaten. He admitted he tied the dog at the back but claimed it had jumped, leading to the unfortunate situation. The man explained that his poor eyesight and hearing prevented him from noticing other drivers’ signals.

Despite his explanations, the police determined his negligence breached Section 24 of the Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act, which mandates safe transport for animals. Consequently, he was fined 40,000 baht.

The public, however, remains largely unconvinced by his account. Many online commentators pointed out the improbability of missing such obvious warnings from other motorists. The incident has reignited discussions on animal welfare and transport safety across Thailand, prompting calls for heightened awareness and stricter enforcement of existing laws.

The narrative serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities pet owners must uphold, especially when transporting animals. As online outrage continues, it raises important questions about the balance between intent and negligence in matters of animal welfare.

The wider implications of such incidents resonate with animal rights advocates, highlighting the need for education and stricter monitoring to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Meanwhile, the Watchdog Thailand Foundation urges authorities to ensure that such negligence is met with appropriate penalties to deter future violations.

In this case, as many reflect on the distressing footage, the core message rings clear: vigilance and responsibility can mean the difference between life and tragedy.

It's not uncommon. Dogs in the back must be tethered properperly for this very reason.

Nothing about, "The man defended his actions, claiming he was rushing his sick pet to a hospital because it hadn’t eaten. My precise thought. Such a lame excuse

There is no need to fine him.

Just let him hang by his testicles off the side of the pickup for an hour or so

Disappointed in the dogging video I was expecting🤔

You were faster

Sounds so sincere.

The explanation that the dog jumped sounds plausible, but why can't he fix him in the cabin.

Moron.

and of course nobody asked what finally happend to the poor dog...

Not excusing what or for whatever reason but 40k - ever thought applying the same fine for DUI, no license just for starters etc - no didn't think so

The keyboard cops BIB can just relax in the office & use video clips 😉

One that should have hi re-tested.

Cruel but sadly, in Buddhist Thailand, not uncommon.

A typo corrected in the OP.

That this self admitted deaf, and vertually blind idiot was not only driving but allowed to do it, and as for the 40,000 baht fine there is as much chance of it being paid as there is that this clown will be taken off the road permanently.

I guess he won't have to worry about the dog not eating anymore...
