Panic as tourists abandon the US

Featured Replies

I've gone through Union Station lots of times, and I have never seen any evidence of crime being committed (save for overpriced kiosks) nor shady characters hanging around looking for an opportunity.

So the famous railway station becomes an occupied military zone, why would anyone, especially a foreigner, feel threatened by that?  :ermm:

Papers please!

Many members of this forum have mixed race families, as responsible parents why would they put their family at risk by taking them on holiday to the U.S. under the current policies of targeting anyone

  • If a transitory drop in foreign tourism is the price for cleaning up the Biden border disaster (and saving the US taxpayers a couple of hundred $$ billion a year), most voters see it as an unfortunate

  • Massive layoffs in Vegas casinos going belly up the tourist obiously + the trump tax is eating up a lot of disposable income.everyone knows the old saying…everything trump touches dies.

Wow, that sounds serious! Have you got a link to the number of American tourists that have been stabbed by asylum seekers in the EU for the last 10 years or so?

Because if the number is insignificant (≈0) I'm gonna have to conclude that you're just another pearl clutcher.

Are you a pearl clutcher, buddy?

Funny you should ask...

The 21-year-old American hero who was stabbed in the face by a Syrian “refugee” harrassing 2 young women Saturday night in Dresden (Gateway reported) has come forward and identified himself as John Rudat, a student and male model from Albany, New York.

Oh, you've never seen any evidence of crime being committed, that's enough for me.

Austria Records Highest-Ever Number of Knife Crimes

According to figures, there were 2,596 reported cases of stabbings or knife threats across the country last year, marking a sharp rise from previous years and fuelling concerns about public safety.

Whats happening in Vegas has been years in the making. To think Trump is the main cause shows your lack of understanding.

Can I offer you a 15 dollar bottle of water sir ?

I don't doubt that. But you gotta admit the number of 'international' tourists going there - or anywhere in the US - is down considerably. Much of that is not economics, it's out of an abundance of caution that one of their family members could be arrested for no reason by border 'officers'. That would be a nightmare for any tourist family. Also, Canadians were a good chunk of the previous annual visitors to Vegas, given how easily accessible it was (short flights). Now most of them are not traveling to the US. Add them to the other countries and this is the result.

Canadians have far less disposable income. Which is mostly due to over 10 years of horrible policy. There is a great youtube vid I watched comparing cost of living in Ontario vs Florida. Eye opening and very little to do with Trump.

My point is that Trump is not the main reason Vegas is so bad.

Why would Canadians visit Vegas in June?

Vegas tourism has been declining since 2018. I think online betting and Indian casinos has more to do with it than anything.

I was in Lauglin a few weeks ago and it was a ghost town during the week.

No guns.

That didn't seem to stop them from going to Vegas in droves before Trump's threats of annexation.. If they had/have less disposible income (I guess you mean compared with Americans) maybe they just gambled less. Now they aren't going at all, as far as news reports claim.

What news reports are making those claims?

They didn't have guns in the past, either.  So why is there an increase?  The variable is the number of 3rd world migrants.

No nationality enjoys being disparaged, humiliated, scorned and insulted, especially when that nation is a long time ally of the US, and has enjoyed a productive partnership and friendship for decades. The creep simply can't help himself, the man is so full of venom, hatred, malice and darkness that he just spews this crap out on a daily basis and people think that his words have no effect, but people are listening and when given a choice to make a decision to travel people are choosing less and less to come to the US . I certainly understand that as an American, I find our leader deeply embarrassing.

This is just one of dozens of ways that the US is going to pay a huge price for the Trump presidency, for his daily display of ignorance, and for the continuation of his hateful regime.

It’s just not worth the risk, there’s a whole world of safe and welcoming places to visit.

That is a large reason that I will not be setting foot on US soil as long as trumped his Project 2025 ilk are in charge. I would feel the same as a US citizen if traveling without my Thay Wife and Stepdaughter. searching my iPhone, computer for anti-trump statement at and entering airport? There would, I assure you be an "incident" most likely resulting in jail time and federal lawsuit. Why bother with the USA?  ... You elected him MAGA, enjoy the results!

I never understood the attraction to go to the U.S. as a tourist.  U.S. is very expensive place to visit.

New York is way too crowded and super expensive.  A ticket to Disneyland can run almost $300.  Plus the high cost of hotels and food.

It is way too expensive for nomads or even middle class families now.

Places like San Francisco and L.A. use to be pretty good now, they seem ruined.

I guess the best thing about it is the national parks.

Shortly to be dual priced (as in Thailand) with visitors charged more. So will the National Parks still be the best thing?

In the 1970s I used to holiday regularly in the USA, based in San Diego with regular trips over the border to sample the nightlife of Tijuana (which, by the way, and by comparison, made Bangkok's nightlife resemble a decorous prayer meeting). I suspect that such regular trips would be virtually impossible under today's border control legislation.

So scummy low life white Brits committing crimes with knives is ok?

Of course not.  But there's a temporal correlation between the increase in knife crime and the prevalence of unvetted migrants.  The "scummy low life white Brits" have been there all along.

Lighten up for heaven's sake ! From this non-American's perspective Trump is no worse than some of his predecessors, and better than many.

Well as a non American you just don't get it, you don't understand the issues, you don't understand how dire his leadership is, and you don't understand how he has completely sabotaged tourism, consumer confidence, and how he will lose millions of jobs. Trump is an absolute disaster on so many different levels.

Who in their right mind would risk being hauled off the street by masked terrorists.

I wouldn't go for free.

Perhaps you're the one that doesn't understand.

I am going to the States soon, will be landing at JFK Airport in New York and renting a car, heading up to Canada to see my family, then touring around the northeast a bit.  I will let you all know about the proto-fascism I experience and any other juicy details.

At the moment, I am just having a bit of sticker shock over the price of things, especially restaurant foods. In Toronto, lunch at a Chinese buffet (The Mandarin Restaurant) is $26, plus drinks tax and tip. Same price for a simple souvlaki lunch in a Greek family restaurant.  Think I may be eating a lot of Walmart take-out food...
