Or can end up with paying the barfine for some private russian salad spreading,  in a seedy hotel. Hopefully,  nobody in their senses will bring back a prostitue or freelancer to their official home ? It does carry the risk of getting robbed, drugged, or falsely accused on some cock-and-bull story (!), with an intent to blackmail or extorsion.....Far less hassle to enter directly the brothel or parlour and get the service on-site and be done with it. No LD's to spend or barfines. 

When you like a bar girl/bar boy, give her a direct tip, not just another LD again.

 

In bars, many guests are first-time visitors to Thailand, two-week billionaire holidays, long-term visa expats with big money, or Japanese/Korean tourists. They tend to buy lady drinks freely. If these tourists keep coming back in large numbers, prices will continue to rise.

 

But here’s the problem: when you buy a lady drink, around 80% goes to the bar, and only 20% goes to the girl as commission. Example: On a 200 baht LD, she gets 50 baht commission. As the prices rise to 250 baht, 350 baht, and beyond, the inflation of LD prices continues. The more LDs you buy, the faster prices escalate. This is why tipping directly is the smarter choice.

 

When you give her a direct tip, such as 50 baht or more, she earns the same or even more. You can politely decline the overpriced LD. By tipping directly, she gets 100%, you control your spending, and you avoid contributing to the endless cycle and you avoid being trapped in the never-ending LD price inflation of increasing LD prices. Also, always carry 20 baht bills (not coins), as handing over coins can feel cheap and create a bad vibe.

I know of one poster who definitely doesn’t buy any LD.  He can’t even afford his own and has to rely on a TG to pay for his bowel of food, even after borrowing 75k Thai baht from a TG.

 

If that doesn’t work out he only has 100 baht in his pocket.   Another excuse for the cheapest of charlies.

'Back in the day" ... not for many years now. But my thinking was, great enjoyable entertainment, attention by pretty Thai girls. OK, I enjoy talking to folks so I might buy "Lady Drinks" for one, two, three girls at once for us all to enjoy talking, joking, stories together. Oh, usually bought the Mama San a lady drink also (OK these Lady Drinks and my drinks checked on the front end before proceeding). Fond memories so not desperation ... Sanuck!
