They haven't experienced the effects of mass tourism yet.

Give it time.

What kind of a sad ole git would give a thumb down for a great nostalgic music video.

As I recall bob had long running thread on the same topic, not exact but he gave a big thumbs up to Cambodia. Rehash I guess this time.

Perhaps those smiles are just to lull foolish naive westerners. Make you forget they killed 1.5 to 2 million of their own people, nearly a quarter of Cambodia's population fifty years ago.

I think you should have a talk to the owner of the Si Sa Ket, 7eleven that was blown recently and the many Thai people who had their houses destroyed on the boarder.

I reckon they have a different opinion.

You never really know what's in the minds of people until their actions show it. I'm thinking the average citizen in most countries isn't thinking about hate towards their neighbors or fellow citizens but the maniacs in charge, along with those under their authority to do their bidding. Most seem to like visiting other countries to buy and sell and also to work and want to be left alone in peace. Not everyone of course, as there are sheep everywhere that listen to hate and think the same. Also, as we've seen here and elsewhere, smiles aren't always an indication of what a persons thinking.

Why are they so polite and dignified and friendly ? Guess because the chinese, koreans and many foolish westerners have not yet spoilt them in throwing foolishly money all around for the 2-week-millionaire-holiday.

The same weak-kneed one who prevalently employs this across the board, out of context childishness, as a precipitous pastime ?

In the good old days, reactions had a name attached - now they're hidden behind and used indiscriminately, by inarticulate cowards.

Throw away, ill conceived summay at best.

Just for starters, many Thais were affected in the border areas, instilled and controlled by fear and duress.

My own Thai ex's Thai uncle was released after serving many Years for decapitating. Many were taken away, and few returned.

The elders here formally received an apology and compensation only around 15 Years ago.

Have you any comprehension of generational dichotomy ?

What a s-hite hawk.

Perhaps it has something to do with comparing the present with the very recent past. Gratitude is a healing force.

No idea what you are on about.  However these might help, enjoy.

Welcome to Cambodia where real problems and issues lurk sinisterly behind those happy-go-lucky smiles.

A darkness that seems to lie in the heart of Cambodians masked by their charm.

Yes, I thought that might probably be the case.

Can't say that helped with anything  atall to be honest, only to perhaps strengthen and solidify a preconceived perception of your ethos.

Now, get back to me when you've travelled through Cambodia, on and off for the last 30 Years, speak the language, and immersed yourself in the culture and engaged with the common people there.

Or, when you can articulate reasonably.

Same applies to Myanmar. I think it is not soooo much friendlier but are increasing unfriendliness by the Thais ........ and, in all fairness, they have little to smile about lately!

They are very kind and gracious to foreigners/tourists, but not so much to one another in office and family life.
