A group of Middle Eastern tourists tried to turn a highway into a racetrack in the early hours of 30 August, leading to a serious motorcycle crash that left two men critically injured.

Emergency services were called at 03.05 to Sukhumvit Road, near Makro Pattaya, after reports of multiple motorcycles colliding at high speed.

Rescue workers arrived to find a white Yamaha Spark lying damaged at the roadside, while a black Honda CBR 650R, registered in Bangkok, was left badly wrecked some 100 metres away.

Four riders, all foreign tourists from the Middle East, were injured in the incident. Two sustained severe injuries, including one man who suffered a fractured skull and heavy blood loss. They were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, while two others escaped with minor wounds.

Witnesses said the group of around a dozen tourists had been racing their bikes along Sukhumvit Road, adopting “racing” position at high speed. The collision occurred when the Honda superbike slammed into the back of the Yamaha, sending both machines and their riders skidding across the tarmac.

The crash was captured clearly on CCTV footage, which showed the moment the powerful Honda ploughed into the smaller motorcycle ahead.

Police from Pattaya City Station attended the scene, collecting evidence and reviewing CCTV recordings. Officers confirmed the incident is under investigation and legal proceedings will follow.

I am sure few if any had a proper motorcycle license issued in their home country .  I am sure that alone often negates any insurance policy they think they bought in Thailand, if they even bought such insurance.

Not by chance the Kuwaiti friends?

Just good that they kept it among themselves not killing an innocent victim.

I thought of Battery Sergeant Major Williams immediately!

'Oh dear, what a shame, never mind!'

That stretch of road has been used as a racetrack for 15 years to my knowledge. You'd think a local cop would have picked up on this.

Hopefully they'll learn their lessons.

The guy in shorts and T-shirt we see surfing the tarmac will have left a lot of skin in his wake.

That will be nipping.....

In the first post  of this thread.

My condolences to the Black Honda Motorcycle. May your journey continue in the twisty roads in the sky.

Been riding motorbikes since I was 10.  A few low speeds crashes during the learning period will teach you to manage your risk. Unfortunately they had to learn the hard way what can happen when things go wrong.

If ours were a just world, this type of thing would happen far more often.

He'll certainly have trouble getting his leg over his 🐫

And the idiotic motorcyclist films the whole thing while driving and makes his superfluous comment:clap2:
