Thanathorn, Thaksin Hold Talks on Backing Pheu Thai’s PM Pick

Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, head of the Progressive movement and widely considered the real force behind the People's Party, confirmed he met with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to discuss support for Pheu Thai’s prime ministerial candidate, Chaikasem Nitisiri.

Thanathorn, facing a decade-long ban from parliamentary politics, insisted on his stance: dissolve parliament within four months and hold a referendum for a fresh charter. If Pheu Thai agrees, they’re advised to liaise directly with People's Party head, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut.

While two Juangroongruangkit family members hold cabinet positions under Pheu Thai, Thanathorn downplayed any conflict, emphasising that politics should stand apart from family, reported Thai PBS World.

He was emphatic that the People's Party isn't after government control. Their goal is a new parliament via general elections, which he believes are the way forward.

Thanathorn detailed that his four-month timeline offers ample preparation for a referendum, urging the outlined path amidst political uncertainty.

Focused on forming a stable government, Thanathorn stressed that prevailing conditions prevent any current party from achieving an outright majority. The challenge remains for the Pheu Thai, People, and Bhumjaithai parties to navigate Thailand’s volatile political waters.

Isn't it intriguing for Thai politics? Both individuals barred from political participation seem to be influencing events from behind the scenes! Bravo!

Thaksin: I need to reinvent my image..., who does your hair?

Thanathorn: Hair cut won't help you, you need to get a nose ring. Show 'em you mean it!

He knows his only chance of keeping any influence is to convince the PP to back the PTP party and keep Auntin and his alliances at bay.

Thaksin would sell his soul to the devil for power, he cannot be trusted to keep any promises and should be made to keep out of politics.

The fact that Thanathorn is even talking to him is worrying, I thought he was smarter than that and learnt what happened in the past.

Lessons learnt, keep PTP as far away as possible.

Better he aligns with Anutin with strict rules in place... Thaksin will destroy you as soon as/if PTP are back in power.

PP could attempt to go back to the 'agreement' that followed the last election: PP in charge with majority of seats & Prime Ministership, PT in cabinet as minority ally.

(Yes OK, just dreaming.)

I guess Thanathorn thinks his party needs some experience in government and could force an election where the People's Party would sweep a major victory.

He clearly doesn't understand Thaksin.

Thaksin's son has a record as a problem child and is not even in the picture

Not even close, the worst would be yet another coup led by the usual military thugs.

Nearly choked on my third doughnut reading that.

Thaksin is like that wet snot that you worked tirelessly to pull out from your nose but can’t dislodge it no matter how many times you try to flick your fingers.  You eventually do by rolling it between your fingers until it’s dry enough and after a few flicks it’s gone. It’s risky though because you can’t control where it lands. Sometimes it lands on your body elsewhere. But each attempt is a move in the positive direction making it disappear for good. In his case the family is out of the nose and being rolled between fingers ready to be flicked. Where will it land?

Thai politics, or, how to screw the electorate....................

It is the dry ones which are as difficult, I ask you but all politicians throughout the world are pure filth and scum, so nothing is new there then!!!

No they were not screwed by PT if you were following the news.

Of course they were indirectly screwed by PT, because Anutin was in bed with Thaksin, and "owns" the senators.

Thaksin made a deal with Anutin to form a new government, so the senators failed to show up for the voting.

And you can see now how that Thaksin/Anutin deal turned out. Now Thaksin get desperate, and PP will be the next one he tries to screw, but I hope they are smart enough to ignore him

i don’t know why thanathorn is meeting with teflon toni and bringing him back into the spotlight ... better to just ignore teflon toni and his followers, and not negotiate with the untrustworthy thaksin party ...

show principles and backbone, and stand by the election promises made (by pita), instead of working together with deeply corrupt parties and still being forced to play only second fiddle ...  or being outplayed by them ...

Indeed.  Pheu Thai stabbed them in the back.

Can we PLEASE have just one day not have any one of this family in the news?

What is the worst option for PP? Ally with PTP (already discussed in this thread), or ally with BJT (the successor of Junta parties)?
