I didn’t have the same experience there with the Indians and Chinese, so far so good, but there have been a few times it was way to busy, and not that pleasant yes. Still the food was at the higher end. And we always get served by the same lady who remembers us who have worked there since before covid, who makes the whole experience much better of course.

How long has it been a Marriot?

I'd need to see some photos of what you get.  But if it's a big buffet with proper western breakfast fare, then I don't think 500 baht is a bad price at all.

  • Firstly I would not chose such an expensive hotel to eat at, I would only pay 500b if I had a gun to my head...

Marriot or Goji Bar and Restaurant ?

Marriot. It was Queen's Park something else before it was a Marriot, and I don't think it was that great.

I think it changed around the time the Holiday Inn Soi 22 was built.

Incidentally I stayed in that Holiday Inn almost every weekend the first two years it was open. Pretty decent breakfast there as well.

I thought Marriot Queens park was an old timer, and the Goji Bar was the new concept they made during the last big restauration. Not sure, I think we where there first time 2018 or 2019, so cant say. We used to go to No Idea who used to be there before they moved, and that’s why we ended up at the Goji bar when they where fullbooket once,

Just a quick ai search so you are right

The history of a "Queens Park Marriott" most likely refers to the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen's Park, which was originally built as the Imperial Queen's Park in 1992 and then rebranded in 2016 after significant refurbishment to become the current Marriott property

I eat at home .....

a decent quality Austrailian strip loin steak or rib eye is over 400B for 300 grams....

add 6-8 eggs and 1/2 pack of bacon

there's my basic breakfast most days

2016 sounds about right. I stayed there once or twice before it was Marriot. Hideous parking as I remember.

300 colories

8 eggs 600 calories

100g bacon 500 calories

For a normal man 2500 calories a day is what is needed if you balance it with needed nutrients

Plenty of places you can get a good breakfast for less than 300 baht.Never book breakfast in hotels when I come to Bangkok.

Here in the UK at a local 4 star hotel the price for a Full buffet breakfast is £10.75

(465 bht)  and this in spite of the fact that hotels in UK have much higher overheads. Eg rates and staff on a minimum of £12.50 ( 535 bht)  an hour, what is the salary of the hotels employees in BKK ?

In Thailand they have at least twice as much staff compared to any European country for the same services.

Yes I will, providing it has beluga caviar on the menu and the serving ladies are the prettiest in town.

The Country Rib and Minute Steak are pretty nice for a bit more...

Meatloaf too. Regarding the bargain breakfast for a bit more you can also get fried potato

Yes, it was closed for a couple of years to renovate. It's massive - 2,000 rooms I think - and the Goji restaurant is good. The Imperial chain is no more. I think - but could be wrong - the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park property is a Marriott franchise owned/operated by the Chang liquor barron. Unless things have changed, I recall that I couldn't get a Heineken beer anywhere there. The Rennaisance (Marriott Bonvoy chain) is also a franchise. Very nice Thai man is the owner/franchisee. Met him once at breakfast there years ago.

Not for breakfast, no, unless staying in a nice hotel as a tourist. In Bangkok, Took Lae Dee is pretty hard to beat with its 99 baht basic 2 eggs, ham, toast, juice and fresh (not instant) coffee.

It's 84 baht, cheaper before 9

American breakfast, with two fried eggs, your choice of either sausage, ham or bacon, served with toast, butter and jam along with coffee or tea all for just 62 baht during the happy hour of 5.30a.m. to 9.00a.m. With quality and value deserving of the name “Took Lae Dee” Cheap and Good.

No, and I hate buffets--I always feel like I need to eat my money's worth.

If I have extra money, why not?

I have never in my life had extra money....

To me the choice was poor. If a better choice sure not a problem. But I don’t see many choices. To me the price is no problem. I would like more English or American  food. Myself on Sukhumvit is Breakfast Story. Not sure of prices. But the food is spot on.

500 baht for breakfast? In Thailand? No way.

By far the best breakfast buffet I have seen is at the Don Muang , Amari hotel. I was there a few years ago it was C$ 12 and well worth it.

You are easily pleased, because that was one of the worst  breakfasts I have had at a major Thai hotel chain in the past decade.

The quality of bread was poor, coffee was instant, the  western type  options were awful with 7-11 type cheap sausage/hotdogs, processed "ham" sitting in  greasy water, no bacon and a sorry limited  fruit option.

One of the most abusive options  is now found at the  Bangkok Airport Hyatt. Previously it was a Novotel and included Breakfast in most room rates.  Following the rebranding, the room rates increased, an breakfast is now a 850 baht option.  The food is mediocre, usually lukewarm or cold. I recall one time having to tell an Indian man not to use his hands to take the sausages.   The  selection is better than the  Don Muang Amari, and includes a couple halal options.  There are is a fresh grind coffee machine which often has a line up since the only machine is next to the fruit selection. They still can't bake proper pastries or a croissant. 850 baht is an inflated price, but Hyatt thinks it can get away with it.

It depends on the entrée items in the buffet.

True, but the Thai workers are on approx 50bht an hour, so £1.15

as against the £12.50 for those working in a UK hotel.

Do you think "Thal workers" in Bangkok are working for less than minimum wage?

But would you pay this for this kind of breakfast?

At 2780 calories that's higher than my entire days consumption.

One would guess that the calorie count can be adjusted since it's a 'Buffet'. :stoner:

Indian food for breakfast? No thanks

unless I’ve just come off a pub crawl.

Where’s the lobster bisque?

If I had had a 500 baht Indian breakfast I would fart for at least 2 weeks, as chili absolutely destroys me.
