Elite Visa appointment suddenly cancelled

Featured Replies

Today I flew back to Thailand and was able to have the visa affixed in my passport on arrival at the airport.

Note that the appointment to affix at the airport must be booked 5 days in advance minimum, so still requires some advance planning. In good news, they have immigration officers available even outside normal hours so you can do this even if your flight arrives early or late.

The interrogation by the officers was pretty long and intense, and included disclosing financials and personal details, so be ready for that.

But in the present moment at least, that seems to be the way to have your Elite visa attached if you can't wait for the new check system to be implemented.

Glad you had horrible situation resolved. Enjoy your PE.

That's great news RMN. I imagine they were cross checking the info you had already provided to Elite at the airport interrogation. With luck the in-kingdom process will become smoother as time passes as they get to grips with the new and deeper checks.

Just imagine paying a million baht for a visa to then still be interrogated by immigration on your financial particulars. 😶

Yea but given the circumstances that makes logical sense. If unsavory types have been using the Elite system to cover their affairs then it is to be expected I suppose. Not pleasant I agree but sadly the days of innocent before proven guilty have gone. Now you are always assumed guilty until you prove your innocence.

That was what Elite told me right after they got word of the extended background check for in country stamp sticking at the immigration office.

Set up with them a week in advance to meet you when you fly back in, they'll stick the sticker on at the airport.

They did say expect to be questioned "more than normal"

Glad it worked out okay for you, congrats

Congrats to Elite too, for coming up with this work around for people who can't sit out the time for that background check.

Thanks for the update, glad you got your visa. Hopefully all this will be resolved when I need to renew/upgrade my Elite visa and have it affixed in a new passport in a few years.

Now it wasn't clear if this was about 'records' inside Thailand or outside, or both.

UK Police Records (if British, otherwise your home nation(s))
Interpol

Interpol is important because even if there isn't a red notice, there's another notice used to gather intelligence which allows them to know you are a person of interest which means they won't issue a visa.

Truly many thanks for Posting here about your previous dilemma.

I have a Thai Elite PE Visa and am now on my 2nd 5 year Visa so I will bear this in mind when my renewal comes up in 2029 although I realise many things can change between now and then.

A hearty congratulations to you on getting this finally sorted.

Not a chance they can get this, this is why you need to get some certificate yourself if it's required for immigration purposes.

It's possible some countries may share details directly with Thailand but not in Europe, you have to get it yourself and then send it in.

Wait what, why do you need to disclose financials and have an interview?

I’ve just received the following re Elite Visa renewals. Note that 60 days notice are now required to both renew an Elite Visa in a passport and to transfer an existing one into a new passport. I’m wondering if it applies to people arriving by air - I’ll be renewing my passport next year in Australia, and I won’t have my new passport in time to send a scan of it to them within 60 days. So maybe I just enter visa exempt on the new passport? I paid a pretty large sum of money for an Elite visa some years ago to avoid bureaucratic hassles such as this.

“Announcement on Advance Notice Requirement for Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) Renewal
at Immigration Division 1 (Chaengwattana Immigration in Bangkok)

Dear Valued Members,

Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd. would like to inform you of the updated guidelines regarding the Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) renewal process for Thailand Privilege Members at the Immigration Division 1 (Chaengwattana Immigration in Bangkok)

These updates are implemented in compliance with the Immigration Bureau of Thailand, with the objective of strengthening screening procedures and ensuring efficient processing for all applicants.

Advance Notice Requirement
Members are now required to notify Thailand Privilege Card at least 60 days in advance prior to renewing their Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa). This applies in the following cases:

• Renewal into the same passport, where the current Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) is valid for less than six (6) months.
• Renewal into a new passport (in case old passport has been cancelled/ expired/ lost/ damaged)
This extended notification period is introduced to allow sufficient time for document verification and background checks.

Required Documents
Members are kindly requested to prepare the following documents in full:
• Current Valid Passport for affixing Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) stamp
• Passport page showing current Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) stamp
• Completed Consent Form

Processing Timeline
Upon receipt of the above documents, Thailand Privilege Card will submit them to the relevant government agencies for background checks. This process will typically require approximately 4–6 weeks. Once approval has been granted, members will be notified and invited to schedule an appointment for Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) affixation at Immigration Division 1 (Chaengwattana Immigration in Bangkok).

Important Reminder
We sincerely encourage all members to prepare and submit the required documents in a timely manner in order to avoid delays in application or processing.

Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Member Contact Center.”

I am facing the same "additional background check" nonsense despite having already passed the initial background check years ago. TPC now requires me signing a "consent form" before arranging "additional background checks". The consent has a particular clause saying "In such case, I shall not demand return for the Membership Fee (or any fees under different name, shape or form, equivalent thereto), nor shall I demand for any damages from the Company." under one of possible many conditions saying "visa application is denied". If I sign this, I am risking the entire membership fee lost upon some random immigration decision. From what I can infer from this thread, even if you pass the "additional background checks", you can still be scrutinized at airport with some small but non zero risk of losing BOTH elite visa AND entire membership fee. This is even worse than a first-time applicant whence the full membership fee is not yet paid.

Exactly - As distasteful as this would feel, we have to understand a 'certain logic' to all this.

There is a certain demographic who can 'white-wash' their repeated entry and long stay in Thailand with money - i.e. purchasing a Thai Elite Visa - and that has perhaps been going on for some time, hence the newly instigated checks at renewal.

As much as I'd dislike to 'give away' my financial status to any official in Thailand I can understand why this check is necessary.

I wouldn't sign anything that prevents me from taking 'action' should immigration make the choice not to permit me the long term visa renewal - however, the likelihood of that is tiny - looking at this logically, unless we are a criminal with outstanding warrants in our home country I don't imagine there is any issue and the concerns people have are inflated.

They sent me the email below a couple of days ago. Seems that when I arrive at Suv. airport to have another visa inserted in a new passport, I should be OK as long as I’ve not been taking lots of short trips out of Thailand, and if it does turn out that the new visa can’t be issued immediately, they’ll still let me enter on a 60 day visa exempt. Email as follows -

“To help ensure a smooth and pleasant arrival experience, we would like to share a friendly reminder regarding Visa Affixation at Suvarnabhumi, Phuket and Chiang Mai Airports (new or renewal) at the airport.

The Immigration Bureau is currently conducting more detailed reviews of travel histories, particularly for individuals who have made frequent short trips to neighbouring countries—especially those included on Immigration’s watch list for fraudulent activity. While this does not mean that members are automatically at risk, it is important to be aware of this process.

For members who have scheduled an appointment for Thailand Privilege visa affixation—either for a new stamp or a renewal—and whose travel history includes frequent border runs or repeated short stays abroad, Immigration Officer may ask additional questions upon arrival. In some cases, they may advise the member to enter Thailand under an alternative option, such as a 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day visa exemption (depending on Nationality), instead of proceeding with the Thailand Privilege visa affixation at that time.

Please note that members who already have a Thailand Privilege visa affixed in their passport are not affected by this announcement. They will continue to enter Thailand under their existing Thailand Privilege visa, regardless of any previous border runs or repeated short stays abroad. This update applies only to members planning to obtain or renew their Thailand Privilege visa at the airport.

If a member is unable to affix or renew their visa stamp at the airport due to Immigration officer’s decision, they will still be able to proceed with the process by making an appointment to affix or renew the privilege visa at Immigration Division 1, Chaengwattana. Please note that, in some cases, Immigration Officer may require an additional background check before the appointment can be scheduled. This process may take approximately 30–45 days.

We are providing this information to keep all members well-informed and prepared. If you have any questions or require further assistance, our Member Services team is here to support you.

I received the same letter and the above part of it struck me as odd...

Isn't the Elite Visa marketed so that people can avoid having to do repeat 'border runs' ??   thus a number of those this visa is marketed towards are the very people Immigration seem to be targeting to reject.

It does seem as though Immigration (someone at Immigration) doesn't like the Elite Visa options and has Thai Elite in their sights.

I noticed this way back - when initially there was a 'waiting lounge' near the Immigration on arrival - then Immigration took over that lounge and prevented Thai Elite from using it - the other lounge is in a far corner and hardly worth bothering with - it seems Immigration just 'didn't like' Thai Elite (or maybe I was reading too much into it - but thats certainly the way it appeared).

There seems to be a dispute over splitting the money.
