New Honda Click 160 Shaking/Jerking

Featured Replies

Just bought a new click 160 (2025) straight from the dealer, and am finding it to be really shaky/jerky especially at low speeds. Like the bike noticably shakes back and forth even on smooth highway roads.

Is this normal for new bikes? (ive read about a ‘break in’ period, and am hoping it gets smoother over time). For context Ive drive  about 150km so far.

Also, i took it to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong with it, so I have no idea what the issue is.

anybody else with a new click face this issue?

Nope, my click 160 is really smooth.

Even during the first 500km

You should take it back to the dealer and get it checked out ASAP, as it is very new.

Is it jerky and shaky due to the engine vibration or due to handlebar moving unpredictably...?

I also have a new Chinese scooter (in another country right now), after a few hundred kilometers, I notice the handlebar at slow speed is jurky and not controlling the wheel smoothly...! Okay at higher speed though...

I had an old Honda Forza with similar symptoms and that was due to steering bearing damage, was repaired and problem went away..., but this is a brand new scooter. So I suspect the steering stem bolt has come loose..., pain to get to this bolt on scooters, all front panels have to come off...!!! 🥴

Ask your dealer to take the bike for a long ride to see the issue, otherwise they don't believe what you say, Thai style...! 🙄

I’ve already taken it in to the dealer and the mechanic checked it and just said ‘Its working fine’.

Will go and try again I guess.

I’m really not sure to be honest, the best way to describe it is a back and forth jerkiness that I can clearly feel, almost like the engine is struggling a bit.

super weird since its a brand new bike.

I will go back and make sure they actually test drive this time.

The bike is not right.

needs to be fixed or exchanged

Mine is very smooth, when you first start the engine you can get vibrations, sometimes the number plate banging which is solved easy.

I've not experienced shaking and jerkin, maybe get a second opinion from a friend

I'd check to make sure the tires are properly seated on the beads of the rims.  That's the simplest probability.

Edit:  And that's happened to me on 2 e-scooters.  I had to overinflate the tires to get them to seat evenly, then bleed off some air to get the pressure right.  A little dish soap on the rims helped.

or seek another opinion

could be a few reasons, so better have another experienced rider take it for a ride for you, and go to another Honda dealer.

I took mine in to Honda Big wing for check when I had a Scooter, and let them do all the work on it.

My Versys had a few bolts lose after a few thousands of km, and needed to have my whole bike checked up where several mistakes during assembly was discovered, and also lack of loctite and spacers.

Overpressured and not balanced tires is the most common problem, but shouldn’t give you to much indication at low speed if it was not horrible wrong.

Bring your bike to a tire shop and let them check if they can find anything. Check if the tire is centered correctly or it is some kind of production error on it. Check your chain when you sit on it, it should be possible to move up and down

When a rider is sitting on a motorcycle, the chain will be at its tightest. There should be a small amount of play in the chain, typically between 25 to 40 mm (1 to 1.5 inches

Probably the belt

Won't be belt slip that only happens in Drive such as pulling away. More likely Tyres.

Yes the chain on the Click is the problem 100%

I didn’t know Honda click 160 had a chain or not, so sorry for not paying attention. Thanks for the heads up,

anyway, belt can also be a problem on a click

Common problems with a Honda Click's drive belt include premature wear, belt slipping, vibration, and noise, often caused by incorrect installation, worn pulleys or clutch components, improper belt tension, or installing the wrong belt size. Symptoms can include a squealing or chirping noise, increased vibration, or a general loss of power, requiring inspection and replacement of the belt, as well as checking the clutch, variator, and pulleys

When the mechanic said its fine, taking it back there is tricky.

Did you go with the mechanic for the test ride? Did you feel the shaking/Jerking while on the pillion?

Mine can be that way when first starting in the morning, especially on very humid days. Once it's warmed up, though, it's fine. Have you taken yours out for, say, at least 10 kilometers, then checked it again?

A new bike should be smooth and have no issues at all if it was assembled correctily

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I went back to the dealership and another one for a second opinion, both said the engine and belt is fine.

Im thinking its the tires that are the issue, will probably get them replaced and see if that helps.

If tires are in good condition, it may not change. What needs to be done is to check the balancing of the tyres as often it can cause vibrations. Plainly mounting new tyres at a dealership that does not balance them may not be of any use.

The next question is, how much do you weight compared to the test drivers?

Shouldn’t be an real issue, but if the belt is to thight then It will give som indications. Where are you at? Any decent tire shop will help you out if it is any problems with your tires.

Also a common thing is your grip on the handles, or just the road texture that gives you the feeling of instability, but if you did test ride on different surfaces, you should figured out that long time ago.

And of course some dealerships will never admit there is actually something wrong, and they are responsible

I weigh about 70kg, the guys that tested it were a bit bigger.

I am based in chiang mai.  Will check out a tire shop and see if they can tell if theres a problem with the tires or the alignment.

I have a 2024 Click 160, now 19,000km. the original tires - IRC - are fine (if fitted correctly) and I've replaced with a new pair of IRC last month.

There's a Facebook group, Click160 Club Thailand has 102,000 members you could try on there (with Google translate if necessary)

I also just bought a new click 160. The issue you are talking about sounds like something in the steering.  You should take it back to have them check it and repair. If not it will worsen and then the damage may be irreparable. You have a limited warranty on the bike so use it.

If the shop he bought the bike at is saying nothing is wrong. take it to another shop. the warranty is good at any shop.

His weight has nothing to do with the problem. I load my bike up with 400kgs and never have this problem. Same bike model and manufacture date.
