A doctor left a patient on an operating table under anaesthetic to go and have sex with a nurse in another room, a medical tribunal has heard.

 

Dr Suhail Anjum, 44, and the unnamed nurse were caught in a "compromising position" by a "shocked" colleague at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester.

 

The incident, in September 2023, came to light in a fitness to practise hearing after Dr Anjum - who had been living in Pakistan - applied to work in the UK again.

 

He did not dispute the evidence against him presented by the General Medical Council (GMC) during the hearing in Manchester, and said his behavior had been "shameful".

Depends if something had happened to the patient during the time he was supposed to have been there and what other qualified people were there.

How would you have felt had it been a loved one who had complications because of his skipping out..........

Just put cameras in the operating room. they should have nothing to hide.

 

If there is a death of patient, video needs to be analyzed for malpractice.

Maybe there were cameras.

I would like to know more about the operation. On long complicated surgeries they work in teams and have breaks scheduled in. They would still be on standby during the breaks though.

Yeah so what, the doc stepped out for a few moments for a little break while the patient was snoozing and a jealous colleague made a big deal over nothing.

The doctor is a smooth operator. Nurse claimed he put her under anaesthesia and so knew nothing about it.
