A 42-year-old Indian man died after falling from the fifth floor of a hotel in South Pattaya on the evening of 19 September 2025. His body struck the roof of a restaurant below, causing panic among diners and staff. Police and rescue workers were called to the scene and confirmed he died instantly from severe injuries.

Police identified the deceased as Mr. Ganesan, who had been staying in a room on the fifth floor of the hotel on Thappraya Road. Officers found no signs of a struggle or theft in the room. However, they discovered evidence suggesting an attempted hanging in the bathroom using a towel tied to a clothes rail, which broke, leading him to jump from the balcony instead.

Witnesses reported hearing noises resembling a possible argument shortly before the fall. A restaurant customer, identified only as Mr. A, aged 40, said diners heard a loud impact on the roof followed by blood dripping down, prompting shock and alarm among guests and staff. The man’s body was later recovered with difficulty by rescue workers due to its position lodged in the restaurant roof.

Police led by Pol. Lt. Phupha Hongyakul, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, and under the direction of Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, station superintendent, investigated the scene. They moved the body to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for autopsy. CCTV footage and witness statements are now being reviewed to determine the exact circumstances behind the death.

Authorities said investigations will continue to establish whether the incident was suicide or if other factors were involved. Findings from the autopsy and surveillance review are expected to clarify the events leading to Mr. Ganesan’s fatal fall.

Sad what drives people to do this.  I mean if I find myself 80, broke, suffering a painful incurable disease then I want the option.  But anyone that is younger and healthy should cherish the life they have.  It's the only one we get.

He was an Indian man, the vast majority of whom are invisible to women and lead lives of desperation.  Getting a taste of the good life and having to return to the West is difficult for many men, I can't imagine having to return to a filthy chit hole like India.  Yes, I've been there and I pity this poor fellow.

How do the authorities conclude suicide when there was an argument just prior to him falling?

Why are they not finding out who he was arguing with?  CCTV?

They may well have, and concluded that the 40 kilo woman couldn't throw the 80 kilo man over the balcony railing.

I do get your point though. Around 10 years ago a friend of mine lived at a decent hotel in Pattaya. He arrived home one day to find police and the meat wagon crew removing the body of his Norwegian neighbour whom had been stabbed in the back some 46 times - whilst being hogtied.  You win the chicken dinner if you guessed that it was ruled a suicide.

Did he also write the suicide note AFTER stabbing himself in the back 40 times?  🤣

That's what I was thinking. Did the argument put him over the edge or was the suicide evidence left there to make it look like it, and was he pushed?

They didn't.

Errrr.....It seems about 99% of unnatural farang deaths are ruled suicides here.....I dont think the police would know a red flag even if one ran over them....

Suicides mean the investigation is wrapped up in 5 minutes and its back to the air conditioned office...

Finding a 40 kg Thai woman in Pattaya these days is probably as rare as hen’s teeth?

It's probably hookers and pimps that kill many of these guys in pattaya. Who else do they know here? Thus, not a good idea to use your room, visitors can just disappear.

Not to drag the chat away from this incident, and this isn't something that would affect me (and certainly not to open a discussion of how other religions view suicide), but I've wondered if these fast & loose suicide pronouncements cause excess grief to the bereaved.  Back in farangland there are religions that will not allow suicides to be buried in their cemeteries.  For true believers, they not only have to contend with the death of the loved one or relative, but knowing that they were condemned to hell (as their religions states) for taking their own life.  This layer of insensitivity has nothing to do with Thai culture, but rather the corrupt status quo.  I first started considering this when David Carradine was sent home as a suicide.

The attempted hanging may have given them a clue.

You seem to be going off at a tangent worthy of some crime fiction author.

The argument could have been some Thai soap opera on the TV!

Just looking at all angles. There was an argument beforehand and it happens a lot here where people "fall" off balconies.
