Poll: Public trust in US health agencies down, only 39% trust RFK Jr

September 20, 2025

"Public confidence in top US Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is above 60% but has dropped substantially from a year ago, while trust in HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is below 40%, according to a poll of 1,699 US adults released yesterday by the Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) at the University of Pennsylvania.

The survey, conducted a month ago among a nationally representative sample, reveals that Americans have the greatest confidence in their own primary healthcare providers for go-to information about health, as they have in the past. It also shows a sharp decline among Democrats in trust in public health agencies.

...

Only 39% trust info from Kennedy

Lack of public confidence might at least in part be attributed to HHS Secretary Kennedy, a vaccine skeptic who has called the CDC "a cesspool of corruption," has not emphatically promoted vaccines to curb the country's largest measles outbreak in 25 years, and ousted all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, among other steps. The poll showed that only 39% of Americans have confidence that Kennedy is providing the public with trustworthy information regarding public health, while 60% lack confidence in him. Only 10% are "very confident" in Kennedy, while 37% are "not at all confident" in him. [emphasis added]

In contrast, confidence in Anthony Fauci, MD, who previously directed the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of NIH, is 18 points higher: 57% have confidence in him, versus 43% who are unconfident.

RFK Jr.’s poll numbers turn sour as he targets vaccines

"The Trump administration and Republicans have launched headlong into a broad overhaul of the American vaccine system – despite it being an overhaul that very few Americans seem to actually want. And there are increasing signs that it’s taken a political toll on the man behind it: US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

...

Recent polling now shows Kennedy’s numbers are significantly underwater for his performance so far. And perhaps more significantly, very few Americans seem to have strongly favorable feelings toward him or trust him on vaccines.  A Washington Post-Ipsos poll released Friday showed Americans disapproved of Kennedy’s job performance 55%-42%.  Political independents were even more negative, disapproving 61-34%. And even 21% of Republicans disapproved.  The poll also showed 38% of US adults strongly disapproved of Kennedy, compared to just 15% who strongly approved. So, strongly negative views more than doubled strongly positive ones.

...

And it’s very difficult to divorce his newly negative numbers from his vaccine moves. Polls have shown that Americans have generally liked the ideas behind his “Make America Healthy Again” initiative – things like healthy eating and targeting processed foods – but they are on a very different page when it comes to vaccines."

I'm not reading this as "only 39% of Americans trust Kennedy". The takeaway for me is that "nearly half of Americans still trust Kennedy"

That's a much more worrying statistic.

America is screwed.

Trust in experts was lost everywhere. Screwed by leftist extremists, they are screwing themselves. People would rather trust in someone with no qualifications at the moment because the institutions are corrupted

The FDA Food Pyramid was complete bs.

So lack of trust in health agencies started long before RFJ Jr. came along.

As a general rule of thumb, don't trust anyone.

Shows how dumb the average American is with 39% trusting this moron.

It's been shown that the FDA bends the knee to Big Pharma. Now the problem is WHERE to find some person or group that can be trusted. As a member recently posted, "America is screwed."

No, that's not what it means.

It means you need to do some work and not expect to be spoon fed.

Like several threads on here that have claimed sometimes doctors push surgeries that may not be necessary. You cannot fully trust the first diagnosis you get. You need to dig deeper and do some research.

Just claiming "you're screwed" is meaningless nonsense.

Life goes on, warts and all. If you're expecting saints in office, you will wait a long time.

No, that's EXACTLY what it means. What credible source can we put our trust in any more? For every FDA report you can find some web source refuting every word reported by the FDA. Add to that the idiocy of the average person any more after the intentional dumbing down of the US public =  America is screwed.

There are credible sources online.

You need to do some work.

If you're lazy and expect govt agencies to spoonfeed you, then yes you will be more screwed.

Name two credible sources. I'll wait.

No, I won't.

You have to do the work yourself.

You need to follow a person's body of work for a long period of time and then decide for yourself if they are trustworthy.

People think Youtube is garbage. It's not. There's doctors on there. And smart ones. And a bunch of other smart people.

You won't because you can't.

But I knew that already, I just wanted you to verify it.

I would trust a crackheads advice over whatever a leftist says

I wouldn't trust him with a dead bear.

He's done too many drugs, steroids, long-time heroin addict, and he smoked more crack than ten Hunter Bidens.

I'm astonished that 39% trust that blazing imbecile, he is likely the most ill-equipped progeny of that once amazing clan. My guess is 99% of that 39% are simply died in the wool Republicans, who would trust anyone appointed by Trump, regardless of their behavior, policy, bizarre rants, or beliefs.
