Tourist Confidence Falls as Foreigners Steer Clear of Thailand

Looking forward, the industry seeks to stabilize and recover by focusing on expanding markets and enhancing visitor experiences.

Something more than Pattaya, Phuket, Samui, Nana etc would be welcomed.

  • Getting too expensive. Not great value anymore regardless of silly high baht.

Not quite in line with the soothsayers on tourism who have done everything possible to certainly scare away the dirty farang, the alien, the kaeks and the jecks.

Listening to the hallelujah tunes of those 1mbec1les at all those tourism promotion boards does not really go in line with anything in real life in Thailand.

(Mostly Thai-only) websites, some provinces with more than one and little Micky Mice jumping up and down across the screen; most attractions without detailed coordinates (Google map/GPS) or a phone number - and likewise not listing dual pricing - a professional marketing revamp would cost a fraction of their yearly budgets.

Overpriced, underserved, immigration putting every possible stop into reasonable attempt to come to Thailand. Multi-country visa were discussed over and over and over; nothing happened. Every second official at the immigration cannot converse in anything but Thai; as a non-Thai you feel like facing the Queen's bench, bureaucratic overflow of an avalanche second to none.

And now you're surprised over the "confidence fall"? Get off your arrogant attitude; Thailand has lots of many competitors - unlike 30, 40 years ago and you get a better product for a more market-confirm pricing in countries (including Burma in the past) where visitors were honestly welcome. Bali learnt its lesson over two bomb attacks and appreciates each and every tourist. You can enjoy a beer 24/7, unlike Thailand, all other Buddhist countries do not know of a teaching of the Lord banning alcohol etc. etc. etc.

Go back to the drawing board, look how it worked a) before in Thailand and b) today in competing destinations; teach the semi-divines to treat tourists with respect and dignity like your own people and over time some of the damages might mend.

Loy Krathong, NYE...They really still don't get it right? Those in charge have as much brains as a Swiss Chard. You don't get people to swim in your pool if the water's getting green and smelling like old rot and for the price of a private lagoon in the Maldives. You need to empty it, clean the whole thing up, and refill with fresh water. get to Effing work "Land of Sorry-A**es"

They keep flip flopping around the numbers one day it's up next it's down 😱

It's low season rainy as well no doubt by December numbers will be up considering its high season 🤑

Time will tell

It's also things like the stupid alcohol laws. What was it a couple of weeks ago. If you are caught drinking after the legal closing time you will be fined 10,000 baht. That's you the tourist. Not the bar. And that's not just for late night drinking. That could be 14.05

An hour before we were told AI  was being brought in, to tempt to upto 2 Million Chinese visitors along with the photos of the meeting, maybe they should have said " Whats going wrong and how can we welcome back more tourists ".

Not in their diologue book lol

Interesting, why were only 350 foreigner tourists surveyed, sure it should have been more

I dont know what it's like around where you guys live? I can think of a few unfinished projects here in Phuket, one will never be finished for this time next year and another will not be ready for high season, That will create a good impression on the tourist who will end up breaking their necks walking around,

Always another Scam around the corner, that new TDAC people are gtting charged for it on some web sites, I was talking to a woman who paid $42,

TDAC is free, if being charged then they are not using the Thai government site.

From that comment I take it that you do not live in Thailand, is that correct?

What's your point

same thing happening in America.  glad i am here

Every year they everyone says Thailand is going to <deleted>, which it appears to be.

More scams, more problems.

We also have a global recession/difficulty.

Touristy areas seem to be very quiet.

But yet there always seems to be tourism.

Are the traditional tourists being replaced by different types (good or bad)

Has there been a country thats been a tourist Mecca for years/generations and now os non existent due to greed?

I hear lots of similar stories with Bali, but seems tourists flock there, and yes the type of tourists seem to change as well

There are a group of expats staying in An Bang, a back/flash packer destination 5km outside Hoi An towards Da Nang.  I love it there and am going back for April with 10 family members (also going to Nha Trang, Da Lat, Saigon, Phu Quoc and Hanoi).

you go to asia to meet western people? why do you even go?

A personal note that only commits me, of course.
Don't panic, Thailand is still an interesting country for vacations. Of course, there's a decline in tourist numbers, so what? The only concern will be the prices, which continue to rise and are less and less competitive with neighboring countries that are also struggling.
It's true that Thailand has never had any real competitors in Asia for the past 20 years, but now things have changed.

Thing is DULEROY every or most tourist destination alters pricing to offset the loss of Tourism be it in discounts and lowering prices. Thailand immediatly ups its hotel prices and raises every consumable to offset there loss of visitors to make up for it.

You allow other to scam you. use your brains

I will be flying from Swampy up to Udon at the end of November cheapest was Thai Airways at around 1,600 baht one way. After a 17-18 hour flight im not prepared to travel across the city to DM for the sake of a few hundred baht. Book Viet jet sounds cheap till you pay for your case allowence it cost's more to fly your case up with you then youe plane seat.

Maybe I missed something.  An earlier post stated "Suvarnabhumi Airport is forecast to handle about 67.7 million passengers during 2026".

Typical Thailand contradiction in reporting....it's up one post and down in another. But then again TIT.

The airport handles more than incoming tourists.

Tourists wont come if they have to jump through loops to get here then are overcharged on everything they buy and do.

I've often met passengers on flights to Thailand who've told me that they're connecting to Vietnam, Cambodia or Bali. Not staying in Thailand. Maybe airport traffic is up with connections.

Its pretty common sense that , ppl just dont want to get scammed or be attempted to be scammed? And it can  ruin the experience of a holiday/travel

Could be, not would be, and it's the maximum fine, not mandatory, but, to date, there have been no reports of anyone being fined anything for drinking after hours.

What hoops do most tourists have to jump through?

Paperwork especially the new system. Not hard I know but has to be within 3 days of arrival. This assumes everyone has a smart phone which is not true.

Another 2 + 2 = 5 post

I know there are expats there because I met them having breakfast in the same restaurant we were eating and struck up a conversation.

I go to Vietnam to holiday because I like it.

Yes, i agree with the costs.

I've just had my annual pilgramage back to the UK and i actually find it cheaper there now, groceries and the like and much better quality products.

I went back to England for over five months from March to early September, I was shocked at the price of things.

I went to a restaurant, nothing flashy, two of us, we had a main meal, she had two cokes, I had a few beers, cost £110 (4730 baht).

Cigarettes £14.50 (623 baht), here 150 baht.

Litre of Vodka £22 (946 baht) ,Phuket 420 baht.

The price of food in supermarkets is at least twice what is here in Phuket.

It is dirt cheap in Thailand but the moaners who gather on this blog will keep on moaning about the country.

What sort of survey involves a few hundred people, it is more like a guess than a real survey.

I have had quite a few friends visit from the UK and they did not complain about the cheap prices here, they thought it was well cheap.

Moaners of the world unite. 😄

We have to fill in the new entry document online or via an app, it took me at least 3 minutes to fill out. 🤣

Bali religion being Hindu,  of course, unrelated to anything Buddhist.
