Can't wait to get on my flight away from Pattaya after 5 weeks here

The costs are more than Australian prices in some things

I pay cheaper for a pizza in Australia

I pay cheaper for coffee in Australia

I pay cheaper for milk

Blood tests are free

I have had enough, I'm going to Vietnam next year maybe Hanoi or Da Nang

Is it true Vietnam is cheaper?

Please tell me about Da Nang

Are the people friendly ?

Have you as a Thai expat moved to Vietnam, are you considering it ?

Maybe I can look at this new place Da Nang for retirement

I need these studies.... financial,is it cheap ?

Safety ,is it safe at night ?

People,are they friendly ?

Clean street?

I found the Philippines didn't meet my needs and I went 4 times

,so now looking at Vietnam

Only read the opening sentence. Great news.

Soi Boukhao will be better for your absence and likely will bring the average age back to 74.🙃🙃

I liked Hanoi. I lived downtown and also by Tay Ho Lake for about a year total. Things were much cheaper (especially housing). I probably would have stayed there if they had a long term visa. I did not like Hcmc as much, but knew people who liked it. Cooler in Hanoi. I did not take to the oceanside towns as much. Da Lat is worth a visit if you can get up there. City of eternal spring. The women were nice, a sea of gorgeous women everywhere.

Haven't lived in Thailand for more than one year now. And yes, love Vietnam, and planning to spend much more time there instead of Thailand.

Da Lat is beautiful, much more so than anyplace in Thailand. Great coffee also. Go for it.

If I didn’t have so much invested here (including a Thai wife) I too would spend more time in Vietnam.  Thai Baht sky high, while Vietnamese Dong stays low.  BoT should do more to tamp down Baht.

Back as in backwards. I'm likely being generous with 74. 🙃🙃

Yes, Vietnam is much better.

Much cheaper. Much more friendly. Free blood tests. Super safe, especially at night. Streets are spotless. Traffic is orderly. They pretty much give away pizzas and milk. Everyone speaks flawless English. They have beautiful weather with four distinct seasons. The women love all foreign men unconditionally. No service charge or VAT on anything, ever.

Oh, and much better forums.

You'll be very happy there. Better hurry!

GG, why don't you come and live with me when I return to Myanmar?

It's very cheap in Myanmar 'cos there's bugga all to spend your money on ..... I save up $$$ with my teaching job.

It's relatively safe in the cities, but beware opportunist muggings from starving citizens

Do you like eating pigs' genitalia?  Most cooked food seems to include this.....

Everyone is very friendly, even the government spies who speak very good English and are keen to know which locals you've been chatting with?

The nightlife in Yangon does include 'ladies of the night' who unfortunately only speak Burmese and Chinese....

Outside the towns you can rent a motorbike, but don't wear a crash helmet in case the military think you're a local and start doing target practice with live bullets.

Oh. if you need to take a pee when riding your motorbike, always pee in the middle of the road, never in the nearby grass, in case there are land-mines.

You'll love it here.....

(Sadly, all this is true.....)

Is this for real or a Bob Smith, Gamma bs trolling post about leaving. I believe you've said this before when you tried to have that monkey arrested in Lopburi and the police wouldn't help you, didn't you?

Da Nang is a great place to base one's self for an extended holiday. And yes most things are cheaper - taxis (they have GRAB), food, drinks. Nice beach. Likely cheaper to rent a place on the 'city side' rather than the 'beach side'. But as a city, it doesn't really offer much as far as I could tell, but I was just a tourist. Only a couple of shopping centers, though I think that will change. Korean corporations seem to be the main foreign entities. In general, the people speak English better than Thailand, where only hi-so people, bar girls and those in the tourist industry can speak English (at a conversational level). Also, speaking of hi-so, and maybe because it's still a communist country, there is less snobbishness among the Vietnamese locals - who are pretty straightforward. Not so sure about living in Da Nang long-term. Hanoi or HCMC are probably better alternatives - hospitals, shopping, day-to-day things/amenities.

The price of hotels is all western cities (G7) seems to be crazy now. Simply not worth it (to me). Japan still not too bad, but that's thanks to the deflation of their currency over the last decade or so.

I should go there next year to escape the smoke and heat in the north. Thanks for reminding me.

Just went to Agoda looked at mid-October and seeing some insanely cheap hotels in DaLat.

Yes, everyone should go to Vietnam.  So much cheaper than Thailand.  Tell your friends.

You know the drill....

The clock was a jackal, its ticking devouring the last of my patience. Five weeks. Five weeks of bad decisions and worse exchange rates. The damp heat of Pattaya clung to me like a cheap suit, and my reflection in the grimy window looked like a man who’d lost a fight with a steam iron.

"This is the end of the line, sweetheart," I rasped, the words for the bartender. He didn't flinch. Nobody ever did.

This town charges a premium for disappointment. The prices here? A shakedown. I’m an Aussie, see? We know a good deal. But a pizza, a cup of coffee, even the milk—it costs less in the land of the dependable dollar. Back home, a blood test is free. Here, it feels like they charge for every drop. It’s all theatre, all smoke and mirrors, and the cost of admission is your whole damn bank account.

I’m through with the act. I’m folding the hand. Next year, a new city. A fresh slice of night. Vietnam. Maybe the cold clarity of Hanoi, or the beachfront blur of Da Nang.

They say Vietnam is cheaper. Is it the truth, or just another whisper in the dark that leads to the same dead end?

And Da Nang. Tell me about the city they call the bright spot.

Are the people friendly? Or is it the kind of friendliness that has a knife hidden behind the back?

You, the expat. You’ve seen the same shadows. Have you made the jump? Are you packing your bags for the new life? I need a sanctuary. A place for a worn-out guy to look at the ocean and forget the neon. I’m thinking Da Nang for the fade out. The retirement.

I need the hard details, the ones that don't lie:
