Why do Thais involve themselves in things they do not understand? Out of 100 EDUCATED Thais, how many can find Israel let alone Gaza or the West Bank on a map? They couldn't find it if it was on the end of their nose,

The educated Thais I know could absolutely point to Israel on a map.  Anyone who can't is not "educated".

The old story ........ not again please ......

only once the chosen people realize that they are not chosen nor superior .........
only once the planet understands that there is no such thing as a promised land ......

A restaurant owner should, for the sake of his/her business, not have an official opinion about anything; what they think privately is their right and up to them. In business it polarizes customers and whatever the subject it, you lose business.

So, in all fairness, I think that both are wrong. The restaurant owners should keep their shirts on and the Israeli should not frequent restaurants with an opinion voiced on social media.

Using the "chosen people" trope as an attack is a classic move of antisemites.

@Sydebolle In this case, it had nothing to do with the restaurant nor the owner at all.

@Jingthing Not everyone appreciates jews appropriating the description of Semites for themselves. Especially when they use it to attack anyone who dares to criticise their behaviour. That's a form of attempted mind control isn't it? Stop trying to shut conversation done with that old trope.

You don't start screaming Anti-Indian when people talk about Indians sharing a single drink/food. We recognise it as part of their culture. But point out the traits that you see in Israelis and one is subjected to the same old trope.

Why is that? Why are so many people all coming to the same conclusions?

<removed> What's next? That Israelis "stole" hummus?)

There is a specific definition of antisemitism.

Look it up before you spout such idiotic nonsense.

I wasn't talking about sharing food. I was talking specifically about the use of "chosen people" by antisemites.

Of course, on the topic of sharing food that indeed is a part of many cultures and is something that I very much enjoy as well depending on the context. For example, I am very annoyed by westerners who when they go to a Chinese restaurant densely want to order a dish just for themselves and aren't interested in discussing a more robust selection of dishes to share. Of course, back to context ordering a noodle soup is generally not a shared item.

Only morons would attack delicious food sharing customs and behavior.

The insults are about large groups of people sharing a single small bottle of water with the implication that is being super cheap. Sounds to me it's more like people not satisfying thirst.

As I said before I haven't ever witnessed that with Israelis though I don't dispute that others have. I do question the perception that is widespread.

Not Chinese, but I have many black friends. Some are quite close. Wonderful souls. Keeping an open mind about people is a good thing.

yea right.

<removed> People have a right to think freely and here they can express those thoughts within reason.

It's a perfectly valid statement to use the term 'chosen people' as it's exactly what they are taught and obviously part of the reason behind their tremendous arrogance and feelings of entitlement.

No one should be afraid to speak that out loud. Weaklings with no argument like to throw out the anti-semitism trope to stop people telling it as they see it.

On to your equal nonsense about ordering a single bottle of the cheapest water between six people. I witnessed this myself, amongst other ludicrous behaviour.  So should I say nothing, lest I offend your delicate ears or just tell the truth as I perceived it? Should I quieten down because you scream anti-semite? It's just pathetic. The truth is the truth and you try to shut it down with your nasty accusations.

In fact it was you who suggested that they were cheap...and they were. But that is not the reason for my disgust. My perspective is the disrespectful behaviour of going to buy McDonalds food and then using and abusing the facilities of another totally unrelated restaurant, by purchasing a single bottle of the cheapest water. Perhaps 5 or 10 baht. Between six people....and then left the McDonalds trash on the table for the staff to clean up. That's just disrespectful.

How would you characterise that behaviour?

<removed> Again, you attempt to obfuscate. I didn't see just ONE example. I saw very many and not just in Thailand. At first I was reluctant to share lest I be accused of being anti-semitic. But when I eventually did, I was overwhelmed by the responses of the people who saw exactly the same thing.

I tell the truth. If you cannot bear the truth, bow out. You claim that you did not even find Israeli on Koh Samui. How can you be taken seriously? You didn't find the Chabad House? So how can anything you write, who didn't see anyone nor anything, be taken into evidence? You know nothing, but yet you defend the ne'erdowells. <removed>. Only making excuses for them. I've also heard them, from the nonsense of IDF reserves 'letting off steam' to 'anti-semitism'. Rubbish. Just nasty entitled people. Can only imagine how such people treat the Arabs.

Personal insults were removed from some posts, and other posts were removed entirely. Please debate the subject politely and refrain from attacking other members. Thank you.

yea right.

Do you really find it difficult to believe that a white man can have black friends? Is that so apart from your reality that it's inconceivable for you to wrap your mind around? I come from a background where the culture was very multi-ethnic, and I have had Black friends, Asian friends, Latino friends, and European friends all my life. Diversity is what makes life fascinating, isn't it?

Perhaps a poll is in order, but now I'm curious about what people think about the groups of five Israelis sharing one small bottle of water thing.

Real thing? Very common or very rare? Or an urban myth -- racist trope?

Pics or it didn't happen. No AI!

So I'll pose the question this way --

Consider 100 groups of 5 Israelis going out for the day in Thailand.

Of those 100 groups, how many of the groups do you suppose shared one small bottle of water among the five people on that given day?

Seriously, take a stab at this, if you will.

There are no right or wrong answers here, only your opinion, so go for it.

Would need to her the other side of the story .

Could have been some tables and seats in a  food court .

Tables and chairs next to the McDonalds .

But anyway ,  the restaurant manager should have taken control and either asked them to leave or purchase more food from the restaurant

For those in the know; the expression came from Israelis and has absolutely nothing to do with anti-semitism which is nowhere in this thread the subject!

Since you know everything better; here is something to chew on - given the fact that the story goes back to the Hebrew bible and Abraham .......... but read for yourself 8-)

The concept of the "chosen people" in the "Promised Land" originates with God's covenant with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible, though the precise term "chosen people" is a rabbinic term, not directly biblical. In Judaism, Abraham is considered the founding father who received God's promise of a great nation, a special homeland, and God's favor. The idea is detailed in the Book of Genesis, with the land of Canaan (modern-day Israel) being the land promised to Abraham and his descendants.

And they play on the compassion of Westerners .

Using children to get sympathy and support .

Forever going on about children .

But they themselves would happily viciously murder any enemy  children and babies .

They don't care about children , they just use dead children to try to win the war

Thailand and especially the Gulf and up around Pai have had long running grievances against Israelis. Continues to this day. Hands down the most annoying people on the planet.
