Hotel Policy On Theft

Featured Replies

Do you think taking stuff from the hotel lobby or restaurant to use in your room there would be considered theft in Thailand? I'm talking about pricey dishes, ornaments and that sort of thing. Or, switching a ratty chair in your room for a better one in the next room.

In the USA it would not be a big deal as long as it was returned, but in Thailand people seem so uptight I'm feeling like it may be a big deal or even be considered stealing.

Thai people aren't uptight. You're just scared of humans, with nasty antisocial habits such as stealing from hotels and being a general nuisance.

No. Hotels don't accept this kind of behaviour and will hand you over to the Police and Immigration authorities.

How did you get into the next room?  Do you take any other "stuff" from the next room such as women's lingerie or the occasional watch from the room safe?

Yuck. A lowlife posting this sort of trash is the pits.

Hotels, blacklist this individual!

...Really got to wonder about the mental state of some people - its good that posts like this exist so that the rest of the normal folk can see the true extent of the lunacy that sometimes surrounds us.

Just take a look at the OP's previous topics, to know who you are dealing with.

I did not think it was a big deal because it was stuff that I felt was lacking in my room.

After thinking about it though, I returned it. The reason was that it may look like one of the maids did it and I like the maids here.

In my opinion, all those accounts have one thing in common, they never get suspended. Wink wink, nod nod

Does the front of your passport by any chance have a goofy lion and gay looking unicorn-y thing on it?

I forgot to add that even a small bauble looks like a big issue to a thai.

In my country it's a nothing, an oversight. Here, it's a day's wages.

Almost certainly. It's not yours and you haven't paid for it.

Perhaps it may be wise to ask the staff first.

Is this a confession?

Changing chairs in a nearby empty unlocked room should not be a big deal. But I'd refrain from say taking an ornament from down stairs up to your room because you like the look of it or something. Some may see the latter as a cry for help as most wouldn't want to steal a hotel trinket, bauble, or ornament.

Going into any 'other room' other than the one he's assigned is a big deal...   He's in a hotel, he has no idea if the other room is assigned or not...

The whole post and mentality behind it is completely moronic...

Some hotels have 'honour systems' or complimentary coffee etc from a machine in the mornings....   The op seems the type of fool who'd take whatever he wants, or want the coffee machine in his room - he's not only a step away from reality, he's in a different dimension !!!... and I know thats gaslighting - but really, its difficult not to gaslight when we get to this level of stupidity.

There are some pretty uptight people commenting here making a mountain from a molehill. That was my worry about the hotel. Some irate thai going off the deep end about a theft.

If this happened in my home country it would be brushed off as nothing. If I asked it would be brought to me. Here, after spending an hour explaining why I needed some more dishes I would probably be charged extra. "You get what you pay for..."

Nah.. no mountains, no molehills...  Just a Grade A 1 display of sheer stupidity and delusion...

What country are you from that allows to you take anything you want from a hotel lobby and freely move furniture around between hotel rooms ?

Don't be silly - every hotel I've every stayed in here (and anywhere else) is perfectly happy to bring extra plates or dishes to your room...

Or... are you staying in outrageously cheap shyitehole's that charge 10 baht for a refreshing tissue on arrival ?

Well let's look at the practicality of it. If you happened to see a chair in say an open door  empty room - as Richard says it wouldn't be reasonable to be walking around trying doors - but if the door was open and you were caught changing it over the hotel might be displeased but they would at least understand if your chair was the same type but not 100 per cent . And I suppose in practical terms if you grabbed a couple of plates from the kitchen without asking and they questioned you - if you said I have a meal and I needed to use some plates they might again frown on it for not asking but may not give it much thought if you say you'll bring them out in the morning. But it would be hard to explain taking ornaments or trinkets to your room. What excuse would make sense - that you liked it and wanted to enjoy looking at it till the morning. A bit weird.

I suppose the type of hotel would be relevant too - I had in mind a smaller Thai hotel that you were talking about.

Why would you need more dishes in your hotel room, does room service not come with them ?
