Professor: Malaysia ‘400 Times More Beautiful’ Than Thailand

Featured Replies

Malaysia is truly a beautiful country. I go quite often. I love the Cameroon highlands, Malacca, Langkawi, and wonder restaurants in Penang. I love that everywhere has kept their historical buildings, and the fact that most Malaysians are much better educated than Thailand. Great to have a good conversation with the locals there, and never had a problem with the different religions.

We've, nearly, all visited those west coast tourist areas.  How many have been to the more conservative Islamic east coast? Reputedly it has great beaches, islands, etc. but arent generally open for traditional tourism.

There are 4 Malaysian states that believe in very conservative Islamic law and also operates sharia courts.. These states want to separate and form their own state with conservative Thais in the border area. Terrorism is part of their agenda.

The country's constitution guarantees freedom of religion, but also recognizes Islam as the official religion. (!)

A foreigner is allowed to practice religeous freedom, but a Malay will not have a choice.  Fine for an expat, but your Malay wife and family wont have that freedom. Also government legislation favors ethnic Malays.with funding, etc.

I dismissed this country as a retirement option very early in deliberation.

There are conservatives everywhere, against all sorts of things.

Your claim that Thailand is anti gay is laughable considering they have passed equal marriage rights for same sex couples and has a cultiure that embraces gay people beyond pretty much anywhere else..

Comments like yours are the result of low-level articles. Why do you even care about my answer, you must be bored as hell, brilliant mind?:cheesy:

But without you realising it,  your dim logic applies to your own self.

Any evidence for this claim?

You said - The Thai military and many Royalists also dont tolerate them too.  (reply to comment about gays)

I wasn't quoting your exact words, rather the concept in your statement.  It indicated there was a bias at the very top level in Thailand. My view was that this country accepts gays more readily than almost any other. Of course there is discrimination to be found with conservatives in this, and every, community, hence the first sentence in my post.

Your subsequent Wiki quotes very much echo my opinion.

I apologise if my differing viewpoint hurt your feelings, mate.

ROFLOL - mate - you have completely misread the statement - because it hit a nerve me thinks.

Bloke said 'they dont tolerate gays' - referring to the Muslims.

I said 'The Thai military and many Royalists also dont tolerate them too."

Yes - Overall the Thai Military do not tolerate gays.

Yes - many Royalists do not tolerate gays.  MANY ROYLISTS does not mean what you think was my CONCEPT. It means the extremely conservative pro-Monarchy people.

BUT - perhaps I used the word tolerate in a manner that was not what you think. I meant tolerate as in being OK to have it happen, but not happy about it - like when tolerating' something that is annoying and unacceptable - not as in being accepting, open and welcoming.
