October 6, 2025Oct 6 So, on launch day of the iPhone 17 here in Thailand i enquired about an iPhone 17 base model at a Banana store in my local mall. The salesperson slapped down a couple of accessories on the counter ( a screen protector and some camera protectors ) at an additional 900 baht. After saying I was good for accessories she told me that it was booking only if I didn’t buy the accessories !! Okay, am in no big rush and visited another couple of stores ( iStudio + 1 ) but booking only. Today revisited the mall and at another Banana store ( there’s about 5 of them ! ) asked if they had the base iPhone 17 ? ” Yes but only in Lavender “ well am not fussy will be fitting a case anyway. She then proceeded to tap away on a calculator and showed me the basic price + 3700 baht. ” What’s that 3700 baht for “ ” extended warranty “ ” no, am good, just the phone “ ” some accessories ?? “ ” no thanks, just the phone “ ” no have “ What ?? Tried another few stores, 1 said booking only and the others didn’t have the base model but had the Air and the Pros, didn’t pursue it so not sure if additional purchases were necessary ?? Anyway, will leave it another 2 or 3 weeks. Anyone had success or come across the same request for additional purchases ??

When I've bought Apple stuff the price has always been the same....re: Shopee/Lazada...but you have more security.....notionally at least, buying direct.......for one thing you know it is the genuine product.

October 6, 2025Oct 6 Yes. Banana are a dishonest company. They told me I had a 1 year screen repair warranty which turned out to be BS. They also sold me a dud superfast charger for 1300 baht. Avoid them at all costs.
October 6, 2025Oct 6 Author Bought my last iPhone ( a 13 Pro Max ) at a Banana store in the same mall around 4 years ago with zero drama. But then it was possibly not just after launch so the chance of extortion was less.
October 6, 2025Oct 6 First mistake made was to buy (try to buy) an Apple product. When will people ever learn? Never? Apple will continue to lose market-share. Buy an Android, and relieve yourself on Apple.

October 6, 2025Oct 6 Anyhow ever since Guru Steve J. was no longer of this world, Apple seems to be on a stand still.

Some just prefer one product over another - in this case, the question is whether Banana IT applying 'extra-charges' onto customers for a high-demand product.... If the same shop were applying extra charges with a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 or Xiaomi 17 Pro Max would the discussion turn to why buy a Samsung or Xiaomi ?? - its just a product, people have a preference. Its always amusing how posters on this forum miss the point and go down the rabbit hole of pathetic irrelevance. So.. Are Banana IT ripping off its customers by forcing them to purchase additional items ? Because, whatever the product, if they are exercising such practices they should be avoided...

Such a waste of resources, and this gives the mobile phone number a bad name. Also, Apple has been responsible for providing military know-how to China, something I do not agree with. Apple is Rotten to the Core, as I have said. So, yes, it bothers me MUCHO....!!!! (In many respects, buying APPLE products is like buying BLOOD DIAMONDS...you know....)

Owning an Apple Phone gives your mobile number a bad name ??? erm... 1 hour ago, GammaGlobulin said: Also, Apple has been responsible for providing military know-how to China, something I do not agree with. Yawn... very silly of someone of your 'claimed' intillgence to go down that road... ... The claim “Apple has been responsible for providing military know-how to China” is false... That said, there have been accusations that Apple (through employees, suppliers, or its broad manufacturing presence) has had incidents and exposures that could have led to transfers of sensitive technology or capabilities. But it is not clearly established that Apple has deliberately transferred military know-how in a way that is sanctioned or officially for defense purposes. Meanwhile: In 2019, Huawei was indicted for theft of trade secrets, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice. One case involved stealing technology from T-Mobile USA - specifically, about a phone-testing robot named Tappy. Employees allegedly took measurements and photos, even tried to steal parts of it. Hytera Communications pleaded guilty in early 2025 to stealing trade secrets from Motorola Solutions, involving digital mobile radio (radio communications tech). Earlier, Motorola had won a civil verdict against Hytera (in 2020) for misappropriation of trade secrets and patent infringement. Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit (China) - State-owned DRAM manufacturer has been charged by the U.S. with theft of trade secrets. 1 hour ago, GammaGlobulin said: Apple is Rotten to the Core, as I have said. Stuff of neurotic loonies !!! - your comments are as daft as those in the Anti-vaxx threads, they lack base, they lack grounding and intelligence.... they rely solely on an unhinged bias. 1 hour ago, GammaGlobulin said: (In many respects, buying APPLE products is like buying BLOOD DIAMONDS...you know....) Oh.. here we go... spare me the melodrama.... Buying an iPhone isn’t buying blood diamonds. It’s joining the same messy global supply chain all of your “ethical” gadgets come from – just with better design and fewer actual corpses. Though be careful - they might be after you...

October 7, 2025Oct 7 Why not look at Banana IT online website? Choice of colours, freebies, money off. I always buy my phones from them or IT City online.
October 8, 2025Oct 8 2 choices : 1. Buy online https://www.apple.com/th/iphone/ 2. Buy @ the Apple stores

Buy @ the Apple stores Yeah, 2 or 3 weeks delivery on the Apple website, the Apple Stores are a bit of a trek although I have driven into downtown Bangkok on several occasions and don’t find it too bad. Have asked at a few Studio7’s and while they do have a few Air/Pro and Pro Maxs available the base models are being snapped up. Closest I got to was an iPhone 17 512gb but that is another 8k for storage that i wouldn’t need ( my current 256gb 13 PM still has half it’s storage available ). So, seems like they are coming but slowly so am still happy to wait it out and enquire when i come across a store. Banana’s policy of “ you can have one if you shell out a few more thousand baht “ has annoyed me though and although i have bought an iPhone and 2 iPads from them in the past i will avoid them from now on.
