How will societies deal with the massive job losses from AI?

AI is being embraced as an efficiency tool in workplaces.

Many of my younger colleagues rely on AI to write their memos to clients or much of their reports. I am old school and do it myself. Takes longer, but I know  what I wrote if I am asked about it. However, the AI users are able to do more work than I can and are able to attach it in our electronic filing systems quicker. My takeaway is that it can be a big help to relieve the bureaucratic burden for many professionals who have to document discussions and activities in  accordance with regulatory compliance.

This is what I love about AI. Need a script to sort data? Ask ChatGPT to create one for you. Do you need the toque specifications for something?  Ask ChatGPT. However, you need to be aware of when AI is hallucinating.

So I'll put you down as against guaranteed minimum income regardless of how many unemployed people there are.

This is an unaffordable solution.

I watched a video in the late ‘90s of an automated Allan Bradley plant that had a line that produced (as I remember) 28 different contractors, sorted and palletized and ready for shipment 24/7. One guy fed it, and maintained it.

Look at some of the container handling ports around the world. Been around for decades. Absolutely amazing the way they work.

But that is simple automation

True AI will be a Quantum leap.

I've taken the blue pill. The side effects cost me a small fortune. Must have boosted the local economy by a few percent. Left quite a few happy ladies with cash in hand in my wake.

Well played. At least you satisfied them with cash.

I think we do not realize or be able to imagine what the near future will change.

It took 66 years after the very first flight to fly to the moon!

Things go much faster now,i worked in a new hospital before it was opened and the day

it opened much of the newest innovations were already outdated and never used.

You can print a whole house in 24 hours now.

Since that video is 3 years old, has there been any noticeable progress with affordable housing, especially considering the speed of technological advancement using AI? Is the homeless population smaller now than it was then due to affordable housing 😄 🤣

The homeless will always be homeless. That's the human condition.

And yet some cultures and societies manage it better than others. Norway & Finland v. USA & Pakistan.

Ever been to one? I have.

The ABB factory is exactly the the same as in Germany. The only differenc is the techs on the floor are Chinese instead of German. Management is German.

It's an unaffordable concept.   It would cost $5 trillion to give $ 50,000 per year to 100,000,000 people.  I'm assuming 1/3 of a 300,000,000 population.

Simple. Tax the AI companies to pay the $5 trillion.

I'm not sure if you fully understand the enormity of the $5 trillion sum.

I've seen a demonstration of a tractor that can drive itself along crop rows, detect a single weed and spray it with herbicide while leaving the crop unharmed.

Picking fruit and vegetables will be easy. It's happening now. What used to take a crew to pick fruit is now done by a machine that shakes the tree and catches the fruit in nets.

Thats not AI, thats automation. Very different things

Thats been around for 30 yrs, they don't sell that tech because its too expensive AND not practical or efficient.

Tree shakers have been used for 70 yrs or more and its the only way its done in America, no jobs were lost to that process.

I saw a drone flying over a farmer's field last week, spraying something. If I had my camera, I would have stopped to record a video.

Correct

Ai is to the service industry what UBER is to public taxi service.,

Why did UBER (or similar) become popular almost overnight ?

People were just fed up in getting scammed by crooked taxi drivers all over the world. Simply put.

Ai will take over it's various sectors also for similar reasons and a few more.

That should have been the right question to ask in the first place  - "What makes Ai so popular with entrepreneurs and public ?"

That still requires a human to maintain and keep running. Once they map the area they can fly themselves but again, it still need a human
Its not any better than a helicopter or plane for now, both require a human to use. So nobody's being replaced

I read, a few years ago, about a US autonomous aircraft. Autonomous as in no human input whatsover.

Within these, are many different types and none of it can be done by automation, not at all.

I can't wait to see all the people that lose jobs to AI, begin to pick fruit and vegetables.
We're several generations away from what your dream is.

Automation / robotics will be able to do fruit and vegetable picking.
