Lawn Mowing Leads German Man into 20m Thai Well

Featured Replies

20M fall into that mess? If it is correct (which I very much doubt it from the photo) He is lucky to be alive or at least not badly hurt.anything would be able to sink in that well given all the junk down there. I wonder if he will get burned at the stake for floating?   "Witch, Witch!"

Bet the tight-fisted German will still keep mowing it himself instead of paying a poor to do it.

Upon arriving, rescuers found Lorenz floating and calling for assistance. Fortunately, he emerged unharmed after a 15-minute rescue effort, greeted by applause from his son. Lorenz explained that the overgrown grass concealed the well cover, leading to his accidental fall.

After the mower disappeared did he not think to stop, or did he hang onto the handle.

Surely he was drunk to fall in there, I reckon someone was celebrating Octoberfest a little early. 🍺

The Oktoberfest begins in September and ends the first week in October. All done now for this year.

If it was his own land/lawn, did he not know that the well was there?

Yeh, maybe he started drinking August to end up in that well.

The Oktoberfest ended on October 5. If at all, he celebrated the Oktoberfest a little late.

How do you fall in a well whilst mower? The mower is in front lol

What about a ride on mower, and maybe a few ales :burp:

Get a goat or 2, they do the job with the benefit of a great BBQ if you are not happy with the end result

How many have you lost?

And how is it that he didn't know there was a well on his property? Makes no sense to me!

You are assuming it was a lawn mower that you push from behind.  I suspect he was using a strimmer that you swing side to side.

Poor Thai citizens are too lazy to work three hours for 200 baht. That's why I mostly have to do my gardening alone. I have a lot of work, but I can't find anyone who wants to work for money. The next day, he comes and asks for money for food. That's the reality.

Why is there a vague nursery rhyme in my mind about a well, jump in and shiver, come out like a piece of liver?

The guy didn't know about a well in his own lawn?

It might have been his first visit to the new teeraks home.

Another incident answering the question, "Should I drink the tapwater?"

Edit: I wonder if they bothered looking deeper for neighbors who may have gone missing?

Another reason not to live in an expat ghetto. At least I can do something stupid - intentionally or not, in my own garden without having a swarm of reporters descend to broadcast the outcome.

The post said he was mowing the lawn not strimming it... so I was presuming nothing

Poor guy. Lucky not to break any bones or drown if he was unconscious.

All's well that ends well.

Not many people carry  life buoy in their back pocket, rather than a telephone

It's a 💯0% bologna psych job.

You can't stretch your arms down there let alone float or tread water.

And even assuming the German is p!ssed drunk?

C'mon people, quit hittin that snooze bar.

I also think that he was using a long shaft petrol strimmer judging by the length of long grass.

I suggest that it was a petrol strimmer rather than an electric one, as there is no sign of it, and if it sank in the well, he may well have been electrocuted.

There is about a metre distance between the cutting head and the user.

Well,  well,  well........said the farmer looking at 3 holes in the ground 😂

20 metres is quite a fall. Perhaps some exaggerating involved.

Of course the well could be 20 metres deep but the distance to water only 3.

We'll never know.

RIP lawnmower.

Yeah, I also think a zero added, 555, water also not deep, he is standing, not floating.

What sort of floatation device do you think would have been available in a place where there may have been no suggestion that one would ever be needed whilst mowing a lawn?  Do you keep floatation devices on hand in your garden/house/condo/room?

He had one with him at the time, the empty plastic water bottle in front of him, you can see it in the picture.

Well he could have been celebrating next years October fest early seeing as it starts in September.

In related news, a self-propelled Toro mower was seen by numerous witnesses mowing through dodging pedestrians on Walking Street. Police have arrived on the scene, but since Thais don't use lawn mowers no one knows how to shut it down. This is a developing story.
