Is it time to ask "do you condemn Israel"?

Hanoi and the Viet genocide committed by the US was completely unnecessary and should be condemned as well as the massive destruction and loss of life in Laos too. But equating Israel with Dresden is not only wrong, it's morally bent.

You cannot make any kind of moral equivalency between Israel's response to the Hamas attacks and the US response to Hitler's insane execution of millions of innocents.

Isreal bombed Gaza to defeat Hamas .

UK bombed Dresden for no reason other than revenge  , as the Nazis were practically defeated at the time

The UK population largely supported the British Empire..........but I doubt many would see them or hold them responsible for the horrors 'we' exacted up on the world.

Your country committed genocide against Germany.

It made a point, as did the bombing of Gaza. The disproportionate nature of Israel's bombing of Gaza was completely unnecessary, and the same argument could be made of Dresden.

However you could certainly make an argument that the German people deserved that bombing a lot more than the Gazans.

Only when it is very well earned, like in the case of Germany during WWII.

Never again.

Estimates for the total tonnage of bombs dropped on the Gaza Strip have varied and increased as the conflict has continued.1 Different sources and timeframes provide different figures:

  • As of October 2024, one estimate suggests that the bomb tonnage dropped on Gaza was more than 70,000 tonnes, covering the period from October 7, 2023.

  • Earlier estimates, around November 2023, indicated more than 25,000 tonnes of explosives had been dropped since October 7, 2023.2

Comparison per Square Kilometer

The Gaza Strip is approximately 365 square kilometers (141 square miles) in area.3 Using the higher estimate of 70,000 tonnes of explosives, the density of bombing can be approximated:

$$\frac{\text{70,000 tonnes}}{365 \text{ km}^2} \approx \text{191.8 tonnes per square kilometer}$$

How this compares to other wars:

The intensity of the bombing in Gaza has been compared by experts and human rights organizations to some of the most devastating campaigns in history, with some stating it is "unparalleled in the post-Second World War era."4

  • World War II Bombings (Combined Tonnage): The estimated 70,000 tonnes of bombs dropped on Gaza has been reported to surpass the combined bomb tonnage dropped on Dresden, Hamburg, and London during World War II.5

    • London (1940-1941): Around 18,300 tonnes.

    • Hamburg (1943): Around 8,500 tonnes.

    • Dresden (1945): Around 3,900 tonnes.

  • Comparison to Nuclear Bombs:

    • The 25,000-tonne figure was cited as being equivalent to the explosive yield of two nuclear bombs.6

    • One expert, using the 70,000-tonne figure, stated it was the equivalent of six Hiroshima nuclear bombs (the Hiroshima bomb was approximately 12 kilotons, or 12,000 tonnes, of TNT equivalent).7

  • Destruction Intensity: The destruction in Gaza, especially when considering the small, densely populated area, is reported to have outpaced, proportionally, the Allied bombing of Germany in World War II.8 By late 2023, the campaign was described as one of the "most intense civilian punishment campaigns in history" and "comfortably in the top quartile of the most devastating bombing campaigns ever," with destruction exceeding that of Syria's Aleppo and Ukraine's Mariupol.9

The extremely high density of explosives dropped in a small, highly urbanized, and densely populated territory like Gaza is what leads to these comparisons of unprecedented scale and intensity.

Thanks Mike you are one of the few remaining good guys with the patience to engage in this shrinking ice flow of delusion that once was a glacier. Once this place hummed with life and controversy and was the only place in  town. That boat has long since sailed and I miss the old days but then most of us probably do. RIP  !

Nothing to do with MAGA or Germany 1940 .

Twas you that brought up Germany whataboutery and now you complain when we run with the ball. Que ?

So:

The stated aim of Iran ,and by extension Hamas, is the annihilation of Israel. That's not planned genocide.

Israel fights back, that's genocide.

Nazis indiscriminately targetting civilians in London during the blitz is not genocide. Allies fighting back by bombing Dresden is genocide.

Ok, I got it.

Was if Lenin who coined the term 'useful idiots'? I think that could be applied to in the West to a lot of the protesters chanting ' from the river to the sea' whilst wearing the gay pride outfits.

Certainly plenty around these days.

Nobody’s cheering for Hamas here, mate, but pretending Gaza’s a fair fight is like claiming the tuk-tuk’s racing the bullet train. Seventy-odd thousand tonnes of bombs dropped on a strip smaller than Phuket that’s not self-defence, that’s annihilation .And the “useful idiots” line classic  straight out of Cold War bingo night. Problem is, it’s 2025, not 1955, and people can now hold more than one thought in their heads at once: condemning Hamas and condemning mass civilian slaughter aren’t mutually exclusive.Anyway, I’ll leave the chest-thumping to the armchair generals. Some of us are just trying to have a discussion without needing a flag in our profile pic which to your credit you don't yet have.

It's seems as though the discussion must be only one way to be acceptable.

Typical of the left.

I'll leave the discussion to the members of the circular back slapping club.

Scroll back, it was someone else who first mentioned Germany /Dresden,

It's rather more the time to ask, why all those absurd sanctions against Russia that Biden imposed on some weaker nations...and why nothing till this day towards Israel ? Fine, no problem if no sanctions against Israel, but in that case all the sanctions against Russia need to be lifted. Europe as usual very foolish to follow America again and agains on such absurd sanctions that are harming most western nations and not Russia as much as they though....

All the countries you cite have innocent people getting killed due to their corrupt leaders who are minting money through the war or it's collateral. None of the nations you cite are any better or worse then their opponent...

I most certainly do. War make civilian victims. Israel is at war with Gaza, after being attacked, period.
