New Debit card from Bkk Bank but Lazada won't accept it?

Featured Replies

I renewed my Bangkok bank debit card a couple of days ago and when I tried to use it ordering something from Lazada, it wasn't accepted by them, and neither could I log it on the "accepted payment options" on the Lazada website. I tried many, many times and still the same outcome – – anyone have any ideas?
For what it's worth I also tried it on Shopee with the same outcome? However I have used it in a local ATM and have managed to withdraw funds with it, so I'm stumped as to why I can't use it on the aforementioned sites??
If I can't find a solution I will go back to the bank on Monday morning and see what they come up with.

strongly suggest you use Shopee as they are considerably cheaper nowadays and the customer service is superior too

  • Most likely you can easily fix this by going to a branch and ask for online shopping permission activation. I did that recently with my Kasikorn debit card and I was even able to use it for internatio

It doesn't work on Shopee either, so I will do as @Jingthing suggested.

You can also just call them for activation, or you used to be able to anyway.

just trying to save you some money when you get your card activated.  Whatever product you want on Lazada, screenshot it and search for it on Shopee where you will almost certainly find it much cheaper.

TPN (Thai payment network), works fine for China (cos it's really Chinese Union Pay), not much good anywhere else.

Bank can't do anything as all their cards are really TPN Union Pay pretending to be Mastercard.

Bangkok Bank ........ always causing problems no other banks have.

Would suggest a Kasikorn account, their cards are still good.

Many thanks to all of the kind posters who suggested ways in which I might be able to get my card activated, however in the end I went to the bank this morning and the lady "activated" it for me, however it took her a few efforts to do so, so it wouldn't have been easy for me to do it.

Anyway fixed now, and thank you.

PS. I don't remember having to do this when I first got my card a few years back??? But then maybe I did, so long ago now.

PPS. Note to the mods......you can close this post if you so wish, although it might be helpful to other posters??

I find a lot of the same vendors selling the same things at the same prices on both platforms.

The advantage with Shopee is that they do not pass the money onto the vendor until you, the purchaser, click on Order Received, so it is easier to get a refund if needed.

You have the app?

Find "Manage Debit Card"

"Lock/unlock ..."

The f.king app does not allow screenshot as usual.

Good hint:

My new one is also locked by default🤣

From "Home" go to "More services".

Scroll down to "Manage debit card"

Sorry for repeated answer.

Was too lazy to go through all.

For an exception: no failure of Bangkok Bank but a useful security feature in the app.

SCB very similar with fine tuning to the max (domestic international swiping...).

BTW: before ever handing out the card:

Note/save the three digit ccv in the back and then gently scratch it off.

Nobody except you has to know.

Don't store card information in the stores (uncheck!).

Don't be lazy on that.

From their website.....

For enhanced security, from February 18, 2025, Bangkok Bank will disable online payments as a default for all newly issued debit cards from all channels.

BUT!

I tried and failed with the facial recognition once again.

And the message sounds like the facial rec. had been voided and be redone.

After new passport (nr)?

BS!!

Next visit to branch: fix it and remove 1.5 mill. from this hellhole of a bank. Close fixed deposit. Leave savings account with small balance.

Run run run...

Indeed.

New passport: all books cancelled and reissued.

Tons of paper and signatures.

Seemingly unaware about facial recog?

New debit card. No hint on new default. Find out yourself.

Incompetence to the max.

I found the same vendors, same goods but different prices and thats a lot to do with the cut that Lazada/Shopee take.  For 15 years plus I was a Lazada fan boy but after dealing with their inept customer service department I decided to switch apps and was amazed by the amount I was saving.  My latest purchase, an electric bike, was 5000 baht cheaper on Shopee with a voucher that was applied automatically.

Same here. Got a TCL 12000 BTU inverter aircon for Bht 7200 from Shopee, should have been 13900. Delivered in 3 days, fitted for 2500 and 1000 given for the 12 year old Samsung. Happy boy.

Not true although its quicker for the seller to receive their funds if buyer clicks received same as lazada. If not the funds are automatically transferred in 3 days.

Everything has become much more restrictive lately due to the rise in scamming and online bank fraud in Thailand. So, it's not surprising. Banks are taking a more conservative approach now and sometimes disable services by default they think customers won’t always use, in order to protect them. In fact, it’s not a bad thing. For example, SCB allows you to also temporarily disable online purchases through their banking app when you’re not using the card for online transactions. It's an added layer of security. Recently, there have been reports on this forum of people having their cards used for online purchases without their knowledge or consent, so disabling online purchases when not in use is definitely a good safety measure.

Never use an ATM card to buy anything online. With a credit card you are somewhat protected. If your ATM card info gets out somehow, your money is gone with no recourse.
