  • High speed motorcycles in Pattaya ridden by idiotic foreigners killed Larry and Barry yesterday.

  • There is nothing wrong with the stretch of road except the turn, which is not excessively sharp.   This is purely a case of an inexperienced rider on an overly powerful bike.

  • No it was an idiot who rented a bike he could not handle and opened it up on the straightaway leading to that sharp curve where he lost control and killed an innocent Thai woman who was unlucky enough

Speed kills!

Technically it is the stopping that kills.🤔

They may have resurfaced that bit of the road..I might go look after the rain stops...but other parts have potholes undulations and broken surfaces  probably diesel spills near the U-turns..

I have ridden the road many times  and the bend kind of sneaks up on you if you go in a bit too quick after the long straight you have to lean over much more than you think is necessary   even on my humble 150cc  bike

(which is suffering the 2 stroke blues yet again, more time fixing it than riding it)

Had one In Indo. Great bikes. Mine had less yellow.

Let me know if you get fed up fixing it.

Two people killed after a rider on a high-powered motorcycle lost control and crashed into a tree on a curve in the Jomtien area. The crash occurred at around 07:00 on October 20, 2025, in front of the Lumpini Park Condo on Jomtien Second Road. Emergency rescue teams arrived quickly following reports of the crash.

At the scene, responders found a white Yamaha R7, 700cc motorcycle with Chonburi licence plate, which had veered off the curve, mounted the median, struck a tree and slid along the road before coming to a stop. The rider, identified only as Mr. Larry, a 40-year-old American national, was found face-down and unresponsive and clearly dead, in a pool of blood with severe chest injuries. A Thai woman, Ms. Ketsarin, aged 31, was found nearby in critical condition and nit breathing.

Rescue workers performed CPR in an attempt to revive the woman, but she succumbed to her injuries a short time later. Police noted traces of blood and body. tissue on a nearby tree, indicating the severity of the impact. Witnesses told investigators they discovered the victims lying on the road alongside the overturned bike and immediately alerted rescue services.

Locals said the curve where the crash occurred is notorious for crashes and has been nicknamed locally as a “haunted bend” due to the number of serious crashes and fatalities reported there. Residents believe the combination of high speed and the sharp bend contributes to the frequent incidents, though some dismiss any superstitions and blame driver error.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, have ordered an inspection of CCTV footage from nearby areas to determine the exact cause. Investigators will also examine the road conditions and mechanical state of the motorcycle. The bodies of both victims were taken to Pattaya Patmakun Hospital, for autopsy and toxicology tests as part of the standard investigative process.

Key Takeaways

• A 40-year-old American man and a 31-year-old Thai woman died after their Yamaha R7 crashed into a tree on Jomtien Second Road.

• The curve near Lumpini Park Condo is known locally as a frequent crash site, especially among speeding motorcyclists.

• Police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting autopsies to determine the cause of the crash.

Speed kills, not bends in a road

The way that the local youth drive on that road, the speed limit is about 200kph.

Most every night there will be one or more idiots on big powerful bikes  (or even a motorbike) riding soi buahkaow at very high speeds zigging and zagging around traffic and pedestrians often seeing how much noise they can make in the process.  It is truly amazing that these a holes don't kill people every day.

And I would say it is likely that in addition that they have had a load of booze to further fuel their pea sized brain.

DISAGREE... "roads arent necessairly dangerous", drivers mostly are!   and we must all drive according to conditions. Motorbikes have only half the road surface contact, and much less k/g per square Cm and thats just road contact.     Then comes "other-vehicle" contact.    Temporary citizens, and the statistics show it.   Soooo sorry for those left behind to mourn.

Wake up bike riders, before an event happens when they wont be able to wake you, as in yet another crash.

Higher horse power nowdays  should mean higher brain power to drive/ride according to conditions.

Experienced riders get killed every day believing that their experience will save them.

Yes!  road experiences behind you seldom contribute/relate to potential road incidences ahead.

A well worn maxim:-

"Q.  What is the most dangerous Kilometre?   A.  the one in front of you".

....... sorry kids ..mummy is gone ..the tragedy is more than the accident carnage... Slow Down

Every motorcyclist who has experience riding

knows that you want to always avoid trees and telephone poles at all costs, they simply do not yield to recklessness.

Most American riders can handle a lot bigger bikes than any other folks in the world.

On US roads. Nuff said.

Hey guys.... posts about 2 dying (Larry and Barry) but did you somehow miss the Thai female who died? Not right away, but died. And of the three, she had the least control (other than not getting on bike driven by an idiot). Barry made the mistake of leaving home and being out in public. Other than slippery tiles, collapsing construction and bad wiring, homes are somewhat safe.

RIP to all three is in order

Of course, I feel bad for them but I'm so tired of reading these stories daily I really don't

It's always not me

Worst offenders are dumbass teachers in BKK rushing to make a few satang. Never rode bikes, never lived in big cities. They get seriously injured all the time but it goes unreported. Not me, not me

It really doesn't matter. I would wager more die and injured on little scooters.

Even if you're experienced and perfect operator. Someone else will do you dirty. Just stay off the death traps

Always someone else until you are go fund me

Totally agree. Everyone knows what happens when people come off their motos. Same for crash helmets. Yet how many don't wear them?

What can really add to what others already posted, these things have been happening for many years and will continue to happen, they can't be stopped or regulated, so they will continue to claim young lives again and again.

Speeding by a moron who was not using his helmet.  His GF should have told him to slow down.

Two back to back motorcycle deaths.

Idiots drive the motorbikes like they are competing in a motocross....

Thin the herd.

There must be some sort of correlation between the capacity of an engine and fatalities.

The vast majority of Thai motorbike accidents are with small-engine scooters, not big bikes.  There is also a reason experienced riders refer to some of these "big bikes" as crotch rockets, they were not designed for cruising.
Additionally, and as everyone that has driven in Thailand knows, "defensive driving" takes on a new meaning here, especially when you are on two wheels.  In Chiang Mai we share the road with everything from huge 20 wheel semi-trucks to 3-wheel modified scooters with transport baskets.  Some are driving well above the recommended speed limit, some well below.  Too Fast -- Too Slow, both are potentially hazardous.

About 50 daily nationwide.

But no reports on English language sites.

And what folks are not aware of is the injuries at the hospitals that come in daily for the non fatalities.   Go take a trip to any major hospital and you will see the bodies piled up - similar to the wounded US soldiers during the TET offensive.

- The 60 KM speed limit is posted on signs along the road

- The speed limit is painted on the road in all 3 lanes  in a big red and white coloured circle,  approx every  100 m.

- There are multiple signs indicating crossings. A prudent driver is supposed to take that as a cue to be more aware of the road.

Pattaya offered appropriate warning and posted a speed limit that allows the road to be driven at an appropriate speed in an urban area where there are multiple soi and building entry and exit road openings.

The PM should order electronic cruise control devices, maximum speed 30 kph, to be fitted to every motorbike in Thailand

F = ma

or, more accurately in this case...

F = mv/2t

The shorter the stopping time, as it approaches ZERO, the higher the force, as anyone can plainly see.

Such a sudden change in velocity can lead to disaster.

I wish that everyone would just drive more slowly, about 20 KPH.

Life would be better and safer, if this were the case.

No need to rush, I think.

(For example: I very rarely travel at over 3 KPH.  And, it's done me no harm.)

Are you sure F = mv/2t?

Very sad. Too many people riding powerful bikes of which they have no experience and no idea how to control. RIP.
