Suddenly the country's local surf guide was unemployed. He was devastated...

Sri Lanka or certain beaches in India around Goa are true gems with a cost of living that is 10 times less the Thailand, yet with top level medical care (in India that is). More and more europeans are turning to these countries or others in Asia for the winter breaks as Thailand is dropping fast - to much overcharging all over, to much harassment with immigration rules, forms badly translated to fill for visas, hassles from banks, phone companies, tax doubts on the retirement pension of foreigners and all the rest...bye bye Thailand for those who can afford it.

Is there any place livable in India?

I mean livable for Europeans, not for Indians.

I did a two week intrepid tour in Sri Lanka the last half of December. I’m going to rated as 20% overall nicer than southern India and with slightly better food.

The best analogy is that I love Thailand and I super love Laos. I always prefer the less developed near option.

I took the long train ride through the mountains and my favorite place was Galle, like their tiny version of Chiang Mai. The grand old British hotels in the tea country in the mountains were thousand dollar a night level places for about $100.

It’s fairly Puritanical there, just about zero bars and less than zero nightlife. I asked what would happen if I tried to date a straight arrow, Sri Lankan woman. My tour guide said her brothers would come and give me a beat down.

I also did six weeks in India and two weeks in Nepal. Kathmandu feels very  China-ized, and lacking in a lot of the old craft and art since Covid, like every poor tourist destination in Asia.

Been all over India recently too, and the hassle factor is not even 1/5 of what I recall. Even in Varnasas I was unbothered. Southern India was my favorite. And then the deeply Buddhist vibe of Sri Lanka edged it out of the number one spot.

I’ll go back to visit Jafna. Sri Lanka is a frequent stop over en route to the Maldives. But I would need a serious girlfriend to want to go to the Maldives. Definitely not a solo destination.

Kerala

Kerala  was my favorite part of India. The overnight boat ride through all the little islands is a top 10 travel highlight. Beautiful old white washed colonial town. Felt a little bit like Luang Prabang.

Out of all the thousands of YT videos about tourist locations and the problems that can occur, you just happen to choose a video about Israelis yes?

It came up as a suggestion.

If you find some videos on other problem causing tourists from other countries I would be happy to watch them.

i thought it would be relevant to the forum as there have been numerous similar reports in Thailand of late.

In Colombo taxi driver asked us if we wanted to go to a nightclub.

When we got there it was little more than a bigger sized beer bar with sofas.

The girls would ask for lady drinks AND lady food.

They were not the most attractive and dropped the asking price for full service when we said it was too expensive.

The North is nice, but lacks amenities and cold. Goa attracts broke Europeans and fake hippies ... lots of Israelis.

I owe my wife a trip North and better get it done soon bc I'm running out of patience to deal with the country

The visas remain a total hassle and the website looks shonky af. The Bangkok embassy does not respond to query's

If the Swiss Hotel is still there it is worth staying at. Overlooks Kandy lake.

You mean like Ko Phangan and Pai?

People pretending to be hippies for 2 weeks smoking pot around a campfire and then going back home to their corporate lives?

Exactly. It's not a good place to retire, but you got guys in this thread complaining about the visas in Thailand.

Good luck in Sri Lanka. You will need it.

This thread is about tourism in Sri Lanka.

And the negative impact of tourists not behaving on the locals.

If you want to discuss hookers I will start another thread for you.

And there is nothing free with a freelancer.

I don’t think these ones are corporate.

Most I believe are IDF soldiers.

Go back home and start shooting people, dropping bombs etc

Flower power. Peace and love.

Of course it came up as a suggestion for you.

The algorithm has got your numba.

Anything that trashes Israeli tourists anywhere in the world -- top of your list.

It sounds like you are acting as if you don't understand how that works. Hard to believe.

Personally, I suggest that people play some games to try to confuse the algorithm.

You seem intent on attacking the messenger but give a pass for some for vile behavior.

How about addressing the actual OP.
