A 17-year-old boy, identified as Anupong Thamabun, nicknamed "Ta," died after being shot in the chest early on 2 November 2025 in Pattaya, Chonburi. He was rushed to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred on the road towards Khao Mai Kaew, Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District.

According to a 13-year-old witness, identified only a “A”, a group of teenagers on three motorcycles had shouted insults at their friends. In response, the friends called on their older friends, Ratchat Phetleela, 17, nicknamed "Ae,"17, and Anupong Thamabun, the victim, to follow the group. They did not initially realise the group they encountered, were involved in the earlier confrontation and were simply riding past when a member of the other group fired a single shot.

The bullet struck Anupong in the back, prompting his companion to rush him to hospital with the help of local residents. “A” clarified that neither he nor the friends had a prior personal conflict with the shooter. The attack was described as sudden, without warning or conversation.

Family members expressed deep grief over the death, emphasising that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding involving younger siblings rather than a direct dispute with the victim. Local authorities are now investigating the case, with video footage provided by witnesses showing the assailants returning to the scene. Police at Huai Yai station are reviewing the evidence to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Officials noted that such incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns related to youth motorcycle gangs in the area. Police stress the importance of reporting and documenting evidence to ensure accountability and prevent further violence.

If the Thais don’t care about mass teenage gangsterism, then I don’t care either. I am concerned about the safety of myself and foreigners.

One would have to be blind not to see the massive spread of the gang subculture among Thai youth last 2 years or even more

The solution is simple:

1. Criminal liability from age 12.
2. For young boys, if a police officer suspects them of gang membership, they are automatically drafted into the army without a lottery.

But society often doesn't embrace common sense.

Enforcing the laws better would help. Lowering the age for accountability also. Gangs are a group of children growing up without parental guidance, all over the world, and their activity will never end until the homes have more stability, mainly the presence of a loving and caring father.

Weak peers end up together, and kids follow a leader, even if they're anti social and disturbed. Harsh punishment helps take some off the streets, but it has to be curbed at the source before it starts.

The same as terrorism, where lunatics indoctrinate children either taken from their homes or those already out without a clue about what human life means.

So a police state then with no due process. Good choice. 555.

Something has to be done, and there is a middle ground  between martial law and freedom to do whatever you want with little consequence. That's where they should be, with some watching out for and nipping in the bud those starting to go the wrong way. The parents along with officials.

The military might work for some, giving them the discipline and regimentation they surely need, but depending on how they were raised at home, especially if that dad wasn't present or was a monster, whatever was ingrained in them might come out in the military, as we see quite often military members go haywire and kill, like the one did in the mall here years ago, and also we hear about a lot in the US, where they'll turn on other members.

If they were just starting to do stupid things, like many youngsters, and their parents were there and trying, and they're of age,  the military might just be what they need. Rules without exception, instant punishment instead of a talk without any consequences.

and they're of age,

here lies the problem. most are not of age. The parents should be responsible as well and also take responsibility for allowing their teen to be out doing the things we read about all the time with these gangs. My Thai family has some teen children. They do not go out in the evenings. They do not ride off with a gang. They study for school and help with chores and chat girls online. They are good kids and made responsible for their actions. This seems not to be the norm in Thailand... Parents do not give children responsibility nor make them responsible for actions. They allow their kids to go off that leads them to join gangs of others which eventually reeks havoc in the city.

Great idea! Round up the punks and jail them.

About changing this culture.

About men taking responsibility for their children.

About fathers teaching responsibility to their children.

About removing the demeaning Kha, Khrap, the Wai, that raises children has being inferior to adults.

About teaching children that they are equal to adults, just on a learning curve.

About teaching children that using knives, guns, and violence in dealing with small disputes is not the way.

About teaching children that smoking or getting a tattoo will not make you an adult, that adult that now must evolve after so many years of being forced to show inferiority towards adults...

If it happens, there must be a reason.

The use of knives and guns was just about unheard of in my country, until Asians arrived as immigrants. In my experience, it did not exist..

So very simple, just change the culture.

Takes a will, and the 'will' in this case is used in the 'will never happen' formula...

This would give a corrupt cop a free ticket for life.
