A Russian man, identified as Semen Kasparian, was apprehended by immigration police after evading authorities in Phuket and hiding on Koh Samui. Kasparian is accused of being part of an online drug ring using QR codes and cryptocurrency to target tourists. His arrest follows an investigation sparked by social media alerts about drug-related ads plastered in tourist areas.

Kasparian, 27, was tracked down by the combined efforts of the Surat Thani Immigration Police and several other investigative units. Authorities received a tip-off after a Phuket Brutal Facebook page post featured images of QR code stickers linked to a drug-selling website, THAIHUB.TOP. These ads were reportedly spread around Phuket's tourist hotspots, leading to heightened scrutiny.

After investigators located Kasparian at a hotel in Koh Samui, he attempted to escape but was quickly captured. A room search revealed numerous QR code stickers and incriminating images on his phone, believed to communicate with his handler. Kasparian confessed to placing the stickers in exchange for US$1 per sticker, facilitated through a cryptocurrency wallet.

Despite his admissions, police remain skeptical of Kasparian’s claims, suspecting his involvement in a larger network. Authorities have charged him with illegal drug promotion, and he is now in the custody of the Cherng Talay Police Station as the investigation continues.

Looking forward, officials emphasize their commitment to cracking down on drug activities involving foreign nationals. The operation will focus on intensifying enforcement to combat drug misuse in Thailand, particularly targeting schemes exploiting the country's tourism sector.

Key Takeaways

  • A Russian man was arrested for promoting drugs using QR codes aimed at tourists.
  • He allegedly earned US$300 by placing QR code stickers in public areas over three days.
  • Officials aim to continue enforcing stricter measures against drug-related crimes.

It was a People's Party MP who put the spotlight on this situation 2 days ago. Somehow this particular party rarely gets public credit for what they are doing..., maybe because they are in the opposition, or because they are the offspring of the dissolved Future Forward Party...

Here's the article about that:

You forgot 'he says'.

I really hope the RTP crushes this drug ring as they came up with a bold yet sneaky method of sales and distribution. It is time to limit Russian influence in Thailand before it becomes even harder to handle onwards.

Especially if you're around.......😘

With the growing number of Russians currently imprisoned in Thailand, it looks like the Klong Prem Football World Cup will have the pleasure of welcoming the Russian delegation as a new team. Dobro pozhalovat, comrades

Another Crazy Ivan case... I mean, how on earth did he think that was going to end? Facepalm.

Maybe because it's too dangerous to cause trouble in their own countries ?   Russia, China, India and Israel are not Lands of Smiles !
