50% of my life remains. How can I become more Self-Actualized?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

By my calculations, I have approximately 50-percent of my life ahead of me.

I don’t want to spend this remaining time in a state of less Self-Actualization than might otherwise be possible.

Therefore, how can I become an almost fully Self-Actualized Being, by the time I am ready to meet my maker?

I have always been a huge fan of my fellow-alum, Maslow.

But, he never told me HOW.

He ONLY told me that I MUST become more Self-Actualized.

I do not have the answers.

So, if you thought I might be able to provide a few clues, …

You will be disappointed.

No…because….

I am here for ANSWERS, and not to provide my advice, which I would not hazard to provide to others who know more about this than I.

I guess everyone knows who Maslow is, by now.

image.png.994b0ca76e8186491f15bfd2db051d72.png

His name has been bandied about for many decades.

My only gripe with Maslow is he did not tell me how to achieve Self-Actualization…

In more practical terms.

Also, I hate Self-Help books because self-help books are just like…

The BLIND leading the BLIND,...

If you know what I mean.

So, any help with this?

Time is awasting, as we all know.

I am ready to begin, now.

Perhaps others here might also like to become more Self-Actualized,...

But also do not know how, exactly.

We need to combine our collective knowledge to better our lives through following the path that Maslow described.

Just a few well-considered thoughts, as usual…

Best to all,...

Gamma

Please Note:  You know, every time I hear this famous name, Maslow, I think of two famous men:

a. Abraham

b. Laslow (rhymes with Maslow)

As Laslow validly declares:  “They set up the rules. Lately, I have come to realize that I have certain materialistic needs….”

I have you blocked but the title still shows up. I wish they would fix that.

My comment on the title is that I sure hope it's much less than 50%.

What about....

Would it help if you were to use some sort of AI Goggles which you could program to help you NOT SEE, or UN-SEE, everything in life you wish NOT to see?

I am stating....OBVIOUSLY....that....

50% of my MEANINGFUL life is still ahead of me.

Most of my life has been a waste.

And, I figure if I can get Actualized, then I will still have 50% of my useful days....AHEAD....

I similarly have the GGs blocked, and the various other regular BS posters. But it is so tempting to have a peep at what rubbish they can come up with next, and what silly answers they can conjure up.

This is the beauty of my Topics.

My job is to keep members clicking, ....

Today's biggest laugh up to now.

'' fully Self-Actualized Being'' give some time to go by a dictionary to work out the meaning of  'fully Self-Actualized Being,'

I justlove people who invent new words just in order the to get their panies in a bunch.

Just live your life as you see fit (to your potential if you like) and be in the present as much as poss, be kind to others and to animals, and avoid doing so only for the sake of attempting to make the afterlife blissful, if you believe in all that. Religious types that tout the latter regard Jesus etc might be in for a serious awakening if it is a thing. i.e. they give over a large part of the life the universe gifted them to get something in the future. A just omnipotent/one consciousness would see right through that carry-on and chuck them back in the mix.

Beautiful post and thank you

Topics like this keep me coming back for more

But...I must correct you on your life span

80-85yo  is now the probability of death

So I'm unsure how you get 50% left as your not 40yo

You have absolutely no idea how long the remainder of your life is, if there is any certainty in life it's that we don't know how much time we have left. And this is the precise reason why we have to live today as if it's a very valuable day, as we really have no idea what tomorrow will bring.

I don't want to sound particularly grave here but I have friends and relatives that are dropping left and right, and I know many people that are dying way before their time, so it's best not to take anything for granted.

This is a good comment.

I approve of this comment.

We sometimes forget the importance of maintaining this view.

I just looked at Maslow's graph.

There is a level even above "self-actualization" ... Transcendence.

He's setting most of us up for failure. Realistically, most of us don't get past our basic needs in life.

He also has "Cognitive Needs".  That you've done a good job, haven't you? It means keeping your mind curious and studying things. Pat yourself on the back for that one.

Aesthetic Needs - pursuing art ... you've done that too I think. You've checked off most boxes.

Self-Actualization is vague.

Maybe this guy attained self-actualization? He was able to film a bunch of wolves devouring a carcass.

Riveting mind-blowing video. He achieved the top of his profession as a wildlife photographer.

Never mess with wolves. Their "self-actualization" involves eating you alive.

Over the last 20 years some meaningful posters here have come and gone: Some willingly, some were "banned".

The very fact, that a mentally extremely challenged individual has the privilege to post his daily views of the world (as absurd they may be and on occasion beyond absurdity) is worrysome. Common sense would indicate that this man needs help urgently.

But, as he said himself, it's about "clicks". Thankfully his "clicks" are getting fewer by the week. Probably beeing replaced by an other "click thursty desperado", with the approval of "the moderators".

And spell OUT correctly. Good Morning, Spelling Police here. 555

Step one would be to create more time for your goal, which would include stop wasting time publishing garbage on forums.

I suggest concentrating your efforts on producing a perfect bowel movement each day.

Figured it out, still didn't finish my coffee, so need to do something, while enjoying the view & sipping.

You're chasing self-realization or self-actualization.  You'll never find it.  If you want self-actualization, then embrace morality and meditation for the rest of your life.

I'm going to let you into a little secret about self-actualization.  You feel you've lived 1/2 of your life.  But reality?  You could get hit by Chinese space junk as you walk outside of your home tomorrow.  There are no guarantees.

I assume daily that today is "it."  Then live accordingly. You stop holding on to "stuff" including an attachment to your body.  Life then just reveals itself on moment at a time.  No drama.

My guess is that you're attached to being the center of attention.  You lust for attention, and crave the results.  That's a heavy burden my IgG friend. It's one that will anchor you into the world.  There is no self-actualization at the end of that path.  Just frustration and lust for being.

As my fellow-alum, Elon, often fondly states:

Our world is vastly underpopulated.

He loves to say:  "IF I were to drop a bowling ball from my personal jet, at any random point while overflying the United States, the probability of my hitting anyone on the noggin...

Would be even MORE minuscule than minuscule."

This is not a direct verbatim quote:  I am only paraphrasing, accurately, his meaning.

Therefore, you are far more likely to be hit on the head by a bowling ball, while bowling with your neighborhood bowling-league, than to be hit by space junk from China. This, according to my recent calculations.

...which would make getting killed by a chunk of random Chinese space-junk even more of an absurdity.

🤔 I have 1/2 of my life to self-actualize.  POW! 🛰️  Mort!  💀
