Fact is they will see you as someone that has options given previous Non O marriage.

I understand the cash crisis re medical however that will be ongoing.

You could obtain a Non O eVisa in nearby country.

Turn around process hopefully max 5 days.

Threads on this.

You seem expect concessions due to having Thai family.

That won't be forthcoming.

I don’t expect anything. But thank you for the rest of your response.

Go to Vietnam.  Apply for a single entry tourist visa.

yeah I think I’ll try this if the processing time for tourist visas is quicker than non-O

Why can't a member of family or neighbour care for the baby just while your wife attends Immigration with you for the 60 day extension?

Her family live in the north so she has none here. We’ve asked a few friends but they’re all working every day.

It may or not be quicker but the non O has the financial requirements which I thought was currently an issue for you.

There is no "180 day rule" that you referred to.

Not unheard of that an immigration officer may refer to "180 rule".

It's gobbledygook.

180 degrees rule maybe, aka them changing these rules all the time.

I find it a bit strange that we so far haven't seen any posts of people getting issues with either extensions or visa runs. Not really found anything other than the random ones on reddit or facebook either. If they actually enforced this there would be at least a few dozens of posts.

I had a friend arriving back recently, after weeks in Europe too, he was questioned and hold for hours to then be stamped in too. Can't imagine they even have the man power or time to stop everyone doing this. They would need to rent a hotel just to hold all the people in that are deported lol.

Its being enforced at land borders .

They hve extra security keeping an eye on everything nd double checking

So far I've met Scots, English, Americans, Japanese , Chinese , Italians , Columbiums who have been refused entry into Thailand .

The Italians and Columbians applied for visas and got entry into Thailand and the others just said *f  it, I will go somewhere else *

I am wondering how you have met all these people, as you said they have been refused entry. Do you hangout at the land/airport immigration channels chatting up these unfortunate individuals.

Your answer will be enlightening I'm sure.

Your friend has experienced exactly what the Immigration police has said will happen under their new directive, ie. extra checks and questions on arrival. Plenty manpower for that. Was your friend told to get a proper visa? Because that's also what the new directive says will happen with denial of entry being the worst case scenario.

It's also possible some are applying for visas, or getting the extensions that they're supposed to use or they're paying for "safe entry"?

It may not be an actual rule , more of  guideline for immigration officers.

So what's the latest on visa exemptions and extensions? Is it 60 + 30, exit Thailand, 60 + 7?

There are no extensions when entering VE any more.

Your generalization is wrong.

If you fly in and don't re-enter on the same day you left Thailand, you CAN still get an extension. 30 days the first time you do this in a calendar year. 7 days the second time.

If you enter overland (including sea ports I'd imagine) or do a same-day "out-in" bounce, you cannot extend any longer.

Apologies, I should have stated there are no extensions if entering via a land border.
If entering via air or sea, you can obtain a 30 day extension for the first entry, but only 7 days for a second entry.

It's all explained by Tim Newton. (Watch from 2 mins in).

There are no extensions when entering VE overland any more.

There; fixed it for you. 😆

Seems that there aren't any border runs by land available ATM. Cambodia and Myanmar borders closed. Laos visa run companies have suspended services. South is flooded so not sure about Malaysia 🤔

Do we actually have reports from people that has been denied extension at an immigration office after entering overland just once?

People denied extensions for entering overland, yes.

No information on how many times they have done it though.

You will probably know long before the rest of us; so, please report back when:

You know if all overland entries are denied extension; thus, a backpacker arriving from Laos will not be able to get an extension even though only entering Thailand once.

If they are denied only after several border runs. It will be nice to know if a winter bird is able to stay 60+30 then 1 border run and then another 60+30. According the announcement from immigration, that may still be possible according to point #1, althought probably not according to point #3.

The 'no extension' rule only applies if entering VE through a land border.
Entering VE by air or sea, you can apply for a 30-day extension for the first entry only.

That started changing from mid-1997 to mid-1999 (approx). At that time, they started cracking down on those doing border runs.  I know as i had encountered such at that time (as at age-43 to age-45, I was doing 30-day visa exempt border runs).  And its not as if i did not have adequate money (I had enough to live on without working)  - but there simply was no suitable visa.

30-day visa exempt border runs are not fun.

I remember it was easy to take a flight to Udon Thani in the morning and from there to Nong Khai and Vientiane. Apply for a TV at Thai embassy and pick it up the next day before heading back to the airport in Udon Thani. I did that for almost 6 years from Sep 1998 to Apr 2004. No questions asked.

In hindsight, back in 1998, I should have gone to a different country (other than flying to Singapore) to attempt to get a Thai visa, as it was difficult to get one then in Singapore (despite my having a good financial situation).  However for me at that time, I found it very hard to obtain information on the different Visa options. The Thai embassy in Singapore was not very forth coming for information, and my age at the time being age-44, I believe I had both Thai immigration and Thai embassy staff were concerned I could be working in Thailand (I wasn't - as I had adequate funds then to retire in Thailand on a modest income).

Quite possibly I did not try hard enough to find out how to get a better visa then.  Doing constant 30-day visa runs in late-1998 to mid-1999 became real annoying after a while.

Still, it worked out for the best, as visa runs became so annoying, I left Thailand, moved to Europe, found a great job (with good pension and good subsidized health insurance), and then returned under 2 decades later, retiring in Thailand in 2016 (much better off financially.

Perhaps if i had found a better visa/means of staying in Thailand in 1998/99, I never would have left Thailand, and never would have found the great European job, and hence would be worse off today.

It can even be a bit difficult to look back and predict things, despite the knowledge we have today.
