Trump does Epstein U-turn as House Republicans prepare to spurn him

President Donald Trump is suddenly reversing his monthslong campaign to bottle up a bipartisan effort to disclose federal records dealing with Jeffrey Epstein — just as scores of House Republicans prepare to defy his demands concerning the late convicted sex offender.

“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax,” he wrote Sunday night on Truth Social, adding, “I DON’T CARE!

Does the DOJ actually need the Congress to give it permission to release those files? All along, all it should haven taken was the say-so from Trump.

Having demanded investigations be opened into the Clinton's et al, Trump can now have Bondi state the files are part of an ongoing investigation, which could drag on for years......and therefore, the files can no longer be released.

Trump now can portray himself as 'innocent', he has demanded full transparency AND allowed republicans to avoid the stigma being seen to of vote to protect the rich and powerful.

I asked this myself and have checked on several sources. Consensus seems to be, that a congressional call for releasing the files would override  DoJ policy.

Only if Congress passing binding legislation......you can imagine what a nightmare that would be, plus Bondi can stall with claims of national security, privacy protections, judicial appeals.........Trump will be dead and gone before anything is released.

House Democrat exchanged texts with Epstein on how to hurt Trump during 2019 congressional hearing: docs

Jeffrey Epstein was feeding questions to Rep. Stacey Plaskett during a 2019 congressional hearing — and giving her real time help on how to damage President Trump’s reputation, newly released documents show.

The texts, first reported by the Washington Post, show the convicted pedophile pontificating with Plaskett during a Feb. 27, 2019 House Oversight Committee hearing in which the then-former president’s ex-attorney Michael Cohen testified about Trump’s alleged payments to mistresses to silence stories before the 2016 election. Trump has vehemently denied all allegations.

The texts were released as part of roughly 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate made public Wednesday by the House Oversight Committee.

The documents redacted Plaskett’s name, but the newspaper analyzed the messages and compared them to hearing footage to report Plaskett was indeed texting Epstein.

At the time, Epstein was already convicted on state prostitution charges, and months later he’d be charged with sex trafficking minors.

Plaskett initially declined comment, but after the newspaper published its story Friday night her office issued a statement confirming she had contact during the hearing with her former campaign donor.

Got to be something in it. There is no way he would want the release of those files, at least not unredacted. He knows full well, as does the rest of the world, he was up to no good.

Just how many rich and powerful men (Dem and GOP) were buds with Epstein? But all the geniuses here can only think about Trump.

How many powerful and influential men visited Epstein?

Were those guys involved in compromising situations?

Overheard in the corridors of power (shortly before they were demolished to make room for the ballroom):

"It will not be possible to release many of the files because of "ongoing investigations". It would of course be very unfair to only release some of the files, so the only reasonable course of action would be to exercise the Presidential Veto, keep the files sealed, and then look at the whole matter again, in due course, when all those investigations are concluded. Of course there will also have to be a major over-arching investigation into whether the files are a hoax. Such an investigation cannot be run concurrently. There are many, many documents so that further investigation will take time, a lot of time. Once that has been completed then we can give proper consideration to releasing the files, providing they are not a hoax. If they are, even a partial hoax, it would not be in the interests of justice to release them.

So no, in fairness  the files can not be released!

That lot should be good for, oh, another 4 years or so! That is my advice Mr President "

The response and further discussion was drowned out by the sound of bulldozers...

Brace for:

‘I want to release the files, you heard me call for the release of the files , but ongoing investigations prevent it. My hands are tied, I must follow the law’.

This is a conflation of facts, therefore a media regurgitated lie. Trump did not try to block the release of the Epstein files and you cannot cite where or when he explicitly did. Just more gyrating media contortions.

Righty ho, so Trump has not been blocking the release of the files!

Quite remarkable that so so many people have been so comprehensively misled!

Well I never - unlike someone else who we can't mention, who was, is about to be shown to have been and is <deleted>ting orange bricks!

Sure. That's why administration officials were reaching out to the 3 Republican women who had signed on toe the discharge petition. They even had Lauren Boebert over to the White House situation room for what? A Koffee Klatch? (Or maybe for a drinking contest?)

And only after it looked inevitable that the discharge petition was going to pass, did Trump endorse the bill.

But thanks for sharing with us your version of an alternative reality.

Most of the incriminating evidence has gone.

The FBI didn't have a warrant to seize anything found in safes when raiding Epstein's house in NY......you need a separate warrant for their contents.

When they returned (having not secured the safe or posted an agent???) the safe was empty.

Makes you ponder why Epstein didn't rat out Trump INSTEAD of committing suicide. That thought box you're stuck inside is squeezing your coconut.

Maybe you could remind us who was POTUS, and in charge of the legal departments in the US at the time of Epstein's suicide
