Diagnose of Angina

Featured Replies

Over the last few weeks I've developed chest pain, getting worse, upper left chest, neck, back area, I think it's Angina.

So I'd like to know, should I visit a private hospital or a public Hospital?

My concern is a private Hospital may charge you for unnecessary investigation of my complaint.

Has anyone experienced Angina?
What charges should I expect, say for ECG, Xray, blood tests so forth?

I'm living Pattaya, east of Nongprue, near the 331, any hospital in the area that you could recommend?

Cheers

Had Anginaquite quite often as a teenager. (Streptococcus / Streptokokken). Its not a virus, it's bacteria.

You will need antibiotics if so.

And ASAP!

Angina is a heart condition.

Specialized docs are working in Public and in Private Hospitals. Often the same docs.

Concerning "Angina Pectoris" it has to be diagnosed carefully. Many criteria as stress, exercises, emotions, and other not related issues can cause it.

After the anamnesis the doc (Private or Public) will decide how to go on: CAD, ECG, angiography?

The prices you'll get by phone.

(standard ECG between 1000 and 2000 Baht)

@Cricky

you should be at a hospital or cardiologist's office by now, not asking advice on a forum.

Go see Dr Olivier - Swiss Doctor and extremely honest and direct - ASAP.

https://dr-olivier-clinic.com/

No appointments - get there early and wait in the loungeroom.

You are right to avoid a Private Hospital here - unless you have a Thai wife who understands medical things and will make sure you are not ripped off.  By all means go to a public hospital and they will stabilise you if needed - but if you need an operation, they will send you to the private hospital - that is how it works here - we are all Tourists.

If that happens to you, then after the operation is completed, go see DR Olivier and get his opinions and advice. The private hospital will inevitably have you taking very expensive medications, which might not be needed or the best solution for you - and they will demand you visit them regularly (for more ripping off).

OK, I went to Bangkok Pattaya hospital with chest pain, they put me in emergency, ECG, x-ray, blood test, found nothing.
The cardio doctor told me it was muscle pain, the hospital gave me a bill for 8500 baht and 5 Aroxia anti inflammatory tablets.

I'm still having pain in the top left chest above the heart, I can feel the vein/artery pumping hard, gets very painful, I lose breath and become dizzy.

Any suggestions?

I'm sure try another hospital as most will say.

One of my ex Thai girl friends had acute angina and she had a grouse set of tits too.

Keep nitroglycerin spray with you ,that’s what I got

Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast @ Khon Kaen

Make sure they include echocardiogram, should spot most things, along with any other tests they may suggest.

@Cricky

How's your diet, specifically, carb / sugar intake, as can easily cause inflammation & indigestion, and mistaken for heart / chest discomfort.

So much so, that when told about heart chest symptoms to predict a pending heart attack or issues, not to ignore such discomfort as being inflammation & indigestion :cheesy:

Does your chest feel like someone is standing on it?   Does your jaw or elbow hurt at the same time?  How long does the pain last?

If I stress or get up quickly, Top left of chest pulses for around 10 seconds, most times severe pain, wakes me up at times, low pain.
My jaw and elbow feel OK
I think it's atrial fibrillation

I have had afib for a long time but it’s nothing like you describe.  Please go to an hospital and get a full cardio check up.   All the tests.  It’s your life.

Nothing like what you experience ?

I get rapid heart beat. Sometimes dizzy, lack of energy.  Heart beat without AFIB is low, 42-52.  When in AFIB, if over 100, I take 200 mg Cordarone, up to 800 mg a day, doses 4 hours apart.  When it first happened, in 2008, it didn’t interfere with my activities. Starting back then I also took 50 mg of Cordarone/day. Starting 15 months ago I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure; the doctor stopped my daily doses.  I have gotten somewhat better.

^ This. Angina is a signal/warning sign that your heart isn't getting enough blood. Stable angina is chest pressure making it difficult to breath. Unstable angine, what the OP is experiencing, displays pain in some/all of the areas the OP described. Cricky, you should be on your way to see a cardiologist NOW. You will get an EKG and blood tests. This is not the time to worry about costs. Or you can wait for the big one.

Where do you get GTN spray in Thailand? I have angina and was told at hospital it wasn't available in Thailand and I could only use sublingual Isosorbide Dinitrate ( Isorem 5 )

OP could try the recently opened Wongwaris Heart Clinic located on route 331, located alongside the Lotus near to where it joins Sukhumvit at the Queen Sirikit Hospital junction.

Wongwaris Aphijirawat is a consultant cardiologist at the Queen Sirikit and speaks decent English. If my experience is typical, he will do an ECG and Cardiac Echogram on the spot. Google Wongwaris Heart Clinic for the link to his website (Facebook) and the clinic's opening hours which are variable due to his other commitments, and his fees which seem reasonable.

He's also my neighbour!

The truth is you might just have a minor problem, but the indications could be far worse.....its time to get a proper diagnosis, go see Dr Olivier right now.

To be clear, you don’t want to ruin your life with a stroke!  I see the poor gents afterwards, it can ruin your retirement!

You seem to have a problem that could be serious and it will need to be diagnosed by a cardiologist.

I dont understand how bangkok pattaya diagnosed anything if they didnt look at your blood pressure and tell you to check it and very regularly.

Did the doctor not tell you?

The information it gives is essential.

Get a bp measuring device with arm cuff. Measure it at various times of the day at least morning after getting up, and night and when you are stressed.

Take 3 readings each time not just one.

Record the readings. A cardiologist needs the information to help try to make a diagnosis and what further checks are needed like a stress test.
