A 31-year-old Nigerian man was arrested by undercover police in Patong for selling cocaine during a sting operation at Patong Hospital's parking lot on November 18. The operation, led by Patong Police Superintendent Colonel Chalermchai Hirasawat, caught the suspect in the act at 6:55 PM. The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, was apprehended after selling around 1.10 grams of cocaine to undercover officers for 6,000 baht.

The bust was executed by Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Chumphusang and Lt. Col. Saran Chaiwut, who swiftly arrested the man and confiscated the drugs. Police charged him with distributing cocaine, categorized as a Schedule 2 narcotic under Thai law, without a license. Both the suspect and the seized cocaine were taken to Patong Police Station for official proceedings.

This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on drug activities in Phuket, particularly targeting the bustling nightlife scenes where narcotics networks are known to operate. The local police have adopted a firm stance against drug-related offenses, emphasizing zero tolerance and the continuation of targeted operations against both street-level and mid-level dealers.

Authorities have called on both locals and tourists to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. They also cautioned foreign nationals about the severe legal consequences of drug trafficking and possession in Thailand, which may result in long prison sentences and heavy fines.

As of now, police efforts remain focused on uprooting narcotics networks across tourist hotspots. Their commitment underscores an ongoing initiative to maintain safety and security for residents and visitors alike, reported The Thaiger.

Citizens of Nigeria who wish to visit Thailand are required for a visa, either travelling by air or by land border.

Currently, Siam Legal visa services do not cover the local citizens and permanent residents of Nigeria.

The Thai government should really clamp down on the abuse of 60 day visa exempt entries
