A pickup truck driver was detained in Khon Kaen early on November 23 following a crash that injured 14 people. The incident occurred when the driver allegedly ran a red light, hitting a restaurant and a nearby vehicle. Authorities responded around 12:30 am, finding a chaotic scene with the vehicle lodged in a café, resulting in multiple injuries.

Police and medical teams rushed to the site on Si Chan Road, where a white pickup truck had crashed into a milk café, impacting several patrons who were later hospitalized. Additionally, a white Toyota Vios was damaged with two passengers trapped inside, necessitating rescue operations to extricate and hospitalize them.

Eyewitnesses reported the pickup driver trying to escape, but quick action by a restaurant employee captured his image. The suspect, a shirtless man in red shorts, was later detained 200 meters away at a local hotel. CCTV footage confirmed the truck ran a red light, collided with the Toyota, and ultimately crashed into the café.

The driver, identified as 41-year-old Khuekkrit from Nakhon Phanom, was apprehended and tested for alcohol, revealing a level of 199 milligrams per cent. He confessed to consuming alcohol earlier and was en route home when the accident transpired.

Authorities are now compiling evidence as they prepare to pursue legal proceedings. Khuekkrit faces potential charges related to traffic violations and endangering public safety, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • The crash involved 14 injuries and major property damage.
  • The driver admitted to drinking before the incident.
  • Legal action is being pursued based on the evidence gathered.

Courts need to step up and stop this nonsense.

The driver was scared shirtless?

And legless ?

Running 'Red lights' seem to be a form of gambling on roads here.

CCTV of the crash.

He seems to be going quite fast. You'd think if he was that drunk he'd drive a bit slower to avoid problems, but instead he tries to get to his destination quickly before before he has an accident.

Horrifying CCTV, it was lucky that no one was killed. If that had been a motorcycle with a family of 2 or 3 on it, they would have been toast.

Just goes to show, no matter how good a driver you are, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time…..

Clearly the restaurant ran out into the middle of road.

The CCTV reads 23h08 when the accident happened and you report that the authorities responded around 00h30, some 80 minutes later?

That's because they were sleeping in the police station and the noise of a crash woke them up!
