On a visit to Thailand many moons ago, I read an article in one of the major BKK newspapers about a dead foreigner. The man was found bound, hands and feet behind his back, to a post of an ocean dock, under water. The line in the article that stuck out was:

 

"Police have yet to rule out foul play".

Seems for Thai police the first and main  version is that this is a ‘self inflicted harm’…

So high intellect!

They don’t take into account that the good and normal suicide usually also requires not only to cuff own hands behind the back and to cover own head with a black plastic bag but also to cuff own legs!From backside!

Please  don’t forget to consider this.

The big question for me was the American suffering from terminal illness and in constannt pain. If yes, I would lean towards suicide. We had a similar situation in our building but the individual left a suicide letter in clear view.

NO! Two different  deaths. The Bangkok case was attributed to auto erotic asphyxiation.  Bangkok body was discovered in a closet, with a cord around his neck and genitals. This is not the case with the Jomtien death. Too many details are missing. People do not commit suicide like this, particularly 69 year old males. The scenario suggests third party involvement, and I will not be surprised if this was a settling of accounts or a robbery.

As odd as it may seem, this actually was a somewhat popular form of suicide among American retirees here about 25 years ago. One guy did it, and then a couple of others copied the method over the next few years - they were all loosely acquainted through the bar scene. Those guys all left suicide notes, though, if I recall.

 

For those of you who are having trouble picturing how this works, the person will lock the cuffs over one wrist, put the bag over the head and wrap duct tape around the neck, and then reach behind and cuff the other wrist before suffocation panic kicks in. Not a nice way to go, but effective.
