Peanuts can be difficult to digest due to high content of lectins and phytic acid, better off chomping on almonds instead.

Small handful of unsalted mixed nuts tick all the boxes. Brain health, blood pressure, reducing bad cholesterol, boosting mood, improving sperm quality - not really relevant for 99% posters on here, reducing inflammation, strengthening immune system etc. High in fat but the benefits outweigh this.

If I had to pick one nut, I'd go with a couple of brazil nuts every other day with a couple of dried apricots.

Nuts and seeds are an important part of my daily food intake. All kinds, but I eat roasted peanuts and almonds every day. Have for years!  (I'm addicted to the roasted peanuts at Rimping and eat a handful after dinner... but just a handful. I measured it once and it's about half a cupful. Just enough for good health, but not so much as to be fattening.)

I often look for a mid-day snack, and the almonds and sunflower seeds work well for that. .

I didn't start this for health reasons. I just like eating nuts of all kinds. I leave out Cashews as they are the highest in carbohydrates, and I've cut down on all carbs.
I love walnuts, but I never see them in the shell here, which I prefer over a bag of shelled nuts. Pecans too! Rimping carries a good variety of nuts, but often at high prices.

I'll follow Obama and have a couple of walnuts..........plus occasional almonds and Brazil nuts.

I'm on 4 unsalted brazil nuts with 2 dried apricots every other evening. Supposedly beneficial for my health.

Most nuts are quite healthy, and if replacing other processed, high carb/sugar, oily junk food, then a major plus.

Cashew fan myself, and roasted some today, and will roast some tomorrow, since I burnt the ones today 🙄

F'me ... means dark chocolate tonight with movie, since polished off the unburnt ones, I roasted the other day.

81 peanuts must be better than 80

They are calorie dense, and 100gr of most, are usually 500+ calories & UP.  Most good calories, but still calories if not burned off.

And 100gr goes down real easy & fast when snacking.  Just 500 calories is about 7 XL eggs for comparison, and 500 is being conservative.

For visual comparison, when I was weighing everything, Pork Krapao w/butter rice + egg, is 471 calories, and a very filling meal.   Equivalent to about 80gr dry roasted peanuts.

Same with viewing this meal you uploaded.

Disgusting, really.....

Everything within limitations is good. Numbers isnt much useful before you look at how many g 80 peanuts is, and what you actually eat of nutrients total pr day.

That was delicious, best krapao I ever made.  Even the wife liked the butter rice, and prefers it now.

Yep, it was that good ...

That's the fat / protein / carb ratios I like, maybe little less fat and carb.

But most don't want almost 1/4 of their 2000 calorie day to come from a big snack serving.   Especially if washed down with a few beers, for 100-200 more empty carb calories.

... "it's best to weigh them for accuracy, but expect around 80-100g for 80 medium peanuts." ...

OP is stating nuts everyday, though better than crisps, biscuits or strawberry shortcake :coffee1:

Turmeric !!!!

Used this as a guide, though not his optional walnuts or green onions.  Less (no ?) sugar and added garlic.

Only rice I use ...

Considering the large rice serving, it didn't spike my glucose too much, though prefer to keep things under 20mg/dl ...

16 peanuts is better than 80, and is the recommended daily amount.

As an aside, peanuts (especially in large quantities) could constitute a choking hazard for the elderly.

Love peanuts but they are bad news if you have herpes as they can trigger an outbreak.

So easy to make ''çlean' peanut butter'', roast 500 gm raw peanuts (Bht 50), put in processor with some oil (rice bran), and a touch of salt, or marmite, or Siracha sauce.

Process to desired crunchability. Done.

I use a touch of vegemite and HP sauce.

Always have a bag of peanuts handy. Great for the beer breath when driving.

Very relevant to me. Thanks for the post.

Though peanuts (legumes/beans actually) have plenty of nutrients, are hard to digest therefore incomplete nutrient absorption due to phytic acid and tannins, compounds that bind minerals, and their fibrous cell walls that resist digestive enzymes. May as well be eating tree bark.

On the other hand if I eat to many peanuts, I cannot go to do my daily dump.

Elvis died on the throne - constipated and straining after a surfeit of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
