US plans to start checking all tourists' social media

Let me explain this S L O W L Y. Every country in the world has a process to keep out undesirables. Again, it's commonplace with immigration rules virtually anywhere. I would likely be undesirable for the PRC and probably lots of Euro countries as well. It is what you call an "anecdotal reference." Understand, now?

But what democratic countries go to such orwellian lengths as this proposal would establish?

What's more you repeatedly evade the issue of who exactly the government plans to exclude if this proposal is adopted. You claimed it's meant for "disruptive" individuals.  Where is your evidence that disruptive individuals are the only target?

The point is clear. A person seeking entry into the US and/or citizenship and who also, for example, declared their intent to replace the US Constitution with, for example, Sharia Law, would be in violation of Art. III of the Constitution and a variety of laws such as the Crimes Act (1790) and make them not only subject to refused entry but to the death penalty if citizen or foreigner. The US Constitution is not a suicide pact, where anyone with any view gets the rights of citizens, including entry into the country.

I thought maybe I should take a look at article three of the Constitution and I don't see how it applies.

Im guessing those among us that repeatedly and knowingly falsely called him a rapist - including one renowned hater today - will be puckering up at the news their devices will be screened for criminality on entering the US. Ouch ouch and ouch again. Never mind only cost Stephanopolous $15 million. Small change for a retired diver no doubt well worth it for him.

Well maybe but the rapist would be violating the Fourth Amendment.

Surely the 'liberal scumbags' are US citizens, not illegal immigrants?

Unwanted by American citizens. Troublemaking through coming to the US and joining protests against the US. No self-respecting country should allow people to enter, protest and end up blocking streets, campuses, businesses, or churches. If their social media provides evidence of an inclination to do that, they shouldn't be allowed in.

Fair enough, but that's not how it works. All it takes are a few  nasty bullies at immigration who abuse the screening process. I have seen them screaming at people at LAX and MIA. The USA is already down $6 billion in Canadian tourism. Once the story gains traction, it will destroy US tourism as visitors steer clear of the USA.

The US already has a legal right to inspect phones and  view contents including social media. This proposal is over reach and is intended to address the foreigners who belong to radical groups, or who have a history of anti US rhetoric. It can be dealt with differently. It's wrong.

It appears to be further along that "only" a proposal. Also, I don't think it will require a law to be passed to implement this horrific anti-American policy. Keep in mind there is a set recrord of the Trump regime regarding CITIZEN non-Trump supporters as ENEMIES.

you're funny who's applying for a visa to go to Russia!!

Plenty of people and also you obviously didn't bother to inform yourself. The US screening is about ALL entrants, those with visas and those without.

You will be fine. Unless of course you have been engaged in wholesale defamation of the POTUS for years on end, in which case maybe not so fine? You haven't been doing that, right?

Incredible those that chanted democrat mantras like "nobody is above the law" are suddenly panicking that they might be held accountable for breaking the law.

So you're saying political free speech opposing a president is against U.S. law?

Nope. Im.saying intentional defamation of public figures is a crime. Stuff like calling them a "rapist" when they are already aware lefty msm have paid a fortune for telling that lie on air. Or calls for violence against public figures, "skip trial just execute" sort of stuff.

'Skip trial just execute'', wasn't that the mob on Jan 6th with the noose for Mike Pence?

And of course Donald is very keen on execution-

President Donald Trump on Thursday called for six Democratic lawmakers to face arrest and trial after they made a video encouraging U.S. service members and members of the intelligence community to refrain from following orders if they broke the law.

“It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” Trump charged in a post on Truth Social. “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand - We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET.”

The president then reposted 16 Truth Social posts, including one that advocated for hanging the Democrats, like “GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD.”

“This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country,” he wrote later.

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” he said in a separate post.

We're talking about a country, not someone's house.

Would you ask to screen 5 years of social media posts before you let someone in your house?

Sadly you may have both passed on before you finished.

Or will you look for key words and phrases, i.e. narcissistic, a brazen liar, an idiot, ignorant?

It is important to make sure a visitor's to your country will follow the rules. It is a good idea to look at people before you just allow them come

and we can tell you have never been to the USA. Seems your upset why? If never going there why does this bother you?

It’s a bit unfair to act like you know everything about the U.S. and policing in the US when you’ve said you’ve never been there.

What are you basing that on?

as for your figures the US population is closer to 4% than 5%  of the world total.

The old 25% of the worlds prisoners is so outdated, sure that was the case decades ago when the US had peak incarceration rates, but now

it's around 17% still high, but not the highest as that award goes to El Salvador (1,000+ per 100,000,, US 531 per 100,000)

Are there bad cops in the US? sure!  Just like any other place in the world but they're not going around shooting everyone like you believe!

lastly...It's not all about money and power, the goal of the average American is to have a peaceful life with their family and be able to afford a good life.

I call him that all the time. But if you're a foreign citizen entering the US, you're a guest, with no right to partake or interfere with the US political system. I know I hold my tongue when speaking about Thailand in any way other than as a guest grateful for the long term opportunity to visit.

Which is all very well, but on the 4th of December, on this forum,  you called the British Head of State, and his son, greedy pigs. Which isn't the first time you have expressed critical opinions of various national politics (it seems that to hold an opinion is evidence of a wish to interfere in the US political system, ie. you feel this forum has the power to make people change their minds (their voting intentions), rather than what it actually is, a jumble of rather pathetic characters (many are divorcees/absentee dads, some are incels, some are sexual degenerates), strangers to each other, chewing the cud. So you hold your tongue selectively. Or do you mean, while in Thailand, you bite your tongue, but when outside of Thailand, you feel you can criticise Thai politics?

What is your opinion of Vice President Vance criticising British and German domestic politics while on an official visit to those countries? Exercising his freedom of expression, or something else?

Giving out other people's personal information such as names and birthdays? Your entire family's tree?  Just exactly what social media stuff would they demand? Your facebook or other media's user names? Your passwords?

I do remember when thailand started asking for email address and tried for some other things awhile back. That didn't last long.

So how many government employees is it going to take to go through every entrant's social media, web browsing, and family history?

The US is going to have to un-DOGE.

Perhaps the goal is simply to eliminate tourism to the US. Who wants to either fill out a 20 page questionnaire before departure, or else stand in mile-long lines at Immigration or 20-mile long backups at the Canadian and Mexican borders?

"I see in 2016 your second cousin posted a laughing emoji on a post about Trump's hair. DENIED!........next in line?"

Even TAT, which does seem in a constant search for ways to help/hurt tourism, has way more brains than to do something like that.....tourists' visas would expire before getting through the lines at Suvanabhumi, or at least the TDAC.

Numbers of comedians, political commentators and journalists have frequently made very direct and explicit accusations of Trump being a rapist and/or a pedophile, often expressing a willingness to defend their accusations in court.
