  • Hilarious for a country which likes tourists so much - when there's elections we all know what this means - mass closures of bars and entertainment leaving the tourists with little to do in the evenin

  • It was expected and it shows that the accusations of Anutin are real.. He is afraid to be grilled. The THB will go up again.. All negative news is making the THB more expensive

  • Which reincarnation of the Thaksin clan will appear this time?

Call for election while the previous boss is still in prison is a smart move.

So nothing get’s done as Thailand goes on “hold” again, for the umpteenth time.

Actually, it is a good time to call an election from a tourist point of view.  Consider that after NYE, it is pretty quiet tourist-wise. As to bars being closed, yes, they will be closed on a Sunday.

That is not bad, you can still go out Saturday, but it will close at midnight.

One night without isnot going to ruin anyone's holiday.  Just give them a day to recover.

So you can plan I will tellyou that the election is 8 february.

The  muppet  show  all over again

It will be like this peoples party  young party will  do good but will not be aloud to run the country ,

as the old people will not allow the, last time was the same total winner but nothing can be done ,

 What a great pity  ,

Hopefully   they get some party that will help Tourist  and  renew  visas systems  made easy  .

turn the system around   make the Thai baht exchange normal  stop hassling the normal ex pats here   that  support this country   with money and day to day life

turn Pattaya   back to Pattaya   and not Deli or  Siam India

go back to 30 days    aloud to stay no visa.

and people that have the right Visas  get entry easy    and long stay

on another  point i hope the war does not escalate

and all have a great holiday  time and a good start to new year

Tourism, visas and expats are probably about 99 out of a list of 100 for most Thai voters.

Also the screaming loudspeaker vans !

Can't be any louder than the guy who drives down the street in my village selling vegetables and fruit. Frankly, after almost 16 years where I live, I hardly notice loudspeakers, even right outside my house.

Elections cost money, so frequent elections are a significant cost, but I'm sure that the potential for skimming plays absolutely no part in the decision making of Thailand's most honourable politicians.

Who can fail to be impressed by Thailand's financial commitment to the pretense of democracy?

Can we now look forward to all the flips of the current administration becoming flops after February?

Popcorn at the ready!

If you're thinking PP, I don't know if they care about visas and immigration much at all. I've never heard them say much. Aren't they pretty much Westerner-averse like PTP. The best deal you'll get if you're a westerner is getting somebody like Prayuth back in charge.

You could do it yourself with copilot:

The value of currency is primarily determined by supply and demand dynamics, influenced by factors such as interest rates, inflation, capital flow, and government policies.

Key Factors Influencing Currency Value

  1. Supply and Demand: The fundamental principle that governs currency value is supply and demand. When demand for a currency increases relative to its supply, its value appreciates. Conversely, if the supply of a currency increases without a corresponding rise in demand, its value declines.

  2. Interest Rates: Higher interest rates typically attract foreign capital, increasing demand for that currency and thus raising its value. Conversely, lower interest rates can lead to depreciation as investors seek better returns elsewhere.

  3. Inflation: Inflation affects purchasing power. Countries with lower inflation rates tend to see an appreciation in their currency value, as their purchasing power remains stable compared to countries with higher inflation rates, which can lead to depreciation.

  4. Capital Flow: The movement of capital in and out of a country significantly impacts currency value. A country experiencing a capital inflow (more investment coming in) will see its currency appreciate, while capital outflow can lead to depreciation.

  5. Government Policies: Central banks and governments can influence currency value through monetary policy, including setting interest rates and controlling money supply. For example, a government may intervene in foreign exchange markets to stabilize or increase the value of its currency.

  6. Economic Indicators: Various economic indicators, such as employment rates, GDP growth, and trade balances, can influence perceptions of a currency's strength. Positive economic data can boost confidence in a currency, leading to appreciation.

So true, the Pheu Thai Party was going to call for a censure motion today in Parliament. And of course the dirt on corrupt Anutin and his corrupt Blue Party was going to be disclosed. The election commission has yet to remove the illegal Blue Party Senators involved in money laundering at the last voting session. Lets hope that the Peoples Party and Pheu Thai will form a coalition government without the corrupt Blue Party and Anutin after the next election.

which is why I suggested printing money i.e. diluting the baht - something they have control over

reducing interest rates hasn't worked so there are few options that they control over left or they can continue to sit on their hands and watch it increase out of control until it reaches a bursting point and totally breaks the Thai economy

Wanting to constantly change a country's constitution is really a sign of stability.  Of course, if you have a 250 year constitution which you just ignore, that's not really a sign of stability either..

Yes that is how it works Frits, now please tell us which of those points applies to the current strength of the baht.

Maybe also ask copilot which factors weaken a currency.

Bring BACK this man AND a return to... 1990's PARADISE Thailand! :guitar:

Very much so, those were the happy hassle-free days when I could go to the Thai Consulate in Birmingham (no longer exists) and purchase an annual O-Visa for around 90 GBP if my memory is correct. Just had to fill in a form, submit passport and PP photo and the fee. None of this money lark like today.

Pity the corrupt farce of the Senate isn't being dissolved at the same time. So he calls an election to avoid censure and has a nice conflict going on to rally the nationalists. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if there were false flag incidents carried out on the border just to get the conflict up and going again.

So, no Pu Yai Ban announcing everything for one hour at 6AM from loud speakers on every power-pole.

Typically the Thai constitution has been changed following a military coup - so no not a sign of stability.

You obviously only like your own voice.

Hint : A war is usually very negative for the value of a currency, and an unstable government is also very negative for the value.

Last time that happened Pheu Thai rejected the Peoples Party even though both parties won the majority of seats.

Pheu Thai needed their boss and master to come home so goodbye Peoples Party.

Wonder if they'll grow a pair this time.

Maybe not if the boss is still in the slammer, could he be a bargaining tool yet again?

Here we go again!!!

The elites will keep at it till they get the result they want. They are trying to induce voters fatigue

What is gonna happen to the Senate, folks ? When the the time is up for this batch, a new batch of senators will be appointed, I guess ?? I wonder what percent of Thai people are in favor of the presence of the Senate.

Anyway, my guess (and also the guess of most folks I think) is that the PP will win but will fall short of forming the government by itself, and will have to find coalition partners, and whether the PP will be able to do that or not, we will have to wait and see.
