MaeHong Son is fabulous during the summer rains and well into the winter.

But by the middle of November the forests become very dry and by mid January the PM2.5 pollution becomes a real threat to health.

For rainforests, go south, perhaps Surat Thani

Keep him away from Surat Thani

Years ago , (10 years) I went twice to area called Mae Hong Son

It had a big lake with small paddle boats you could hire

.is this a good area to retire ?

There was a Muslim area I think called Mae Sot ,the people seemed friendly

Does anyone live near these areas ?

I don't want to be around tourists so I need to keep away from the Pai area as there are bad Israelis I read

I like to retire to wet rainy hot rainforest areas where no one can bother me as I read my books and compile my statistics on life and make my lists

What statistics?

Are you sure you are mentally strong enough to live like a hermit?

You might crack after a couple of months and go running back to Pattaya.

Try Ranong and the nearby Namtok Ngao National Park, Ranong is reputedly the wettest place in Thailand, with an average annual rainfall of 4,185 mm. If not Ranong then, as suggested in a previous post, somewhere a bit further south on the Phang Nga / Surat Thani border and the Khao Sok National Park. Or you could head into the deep south and the town of Betong, a pretty place close by the Malaysian border and nearby the Bang Lang National Park in Thailand.

Someone permeant would be more suitable .

She takes care of her sisters two kids as shes working abroad .

You would get bored and head away after a few weeks .

She would need someone faithful and reliable .

Not someone running around trying to bang as many women as possible

Yes, I think I met her. Same issues, I had to flee in a misty night.

Does have dense, 'wet', tropical forests at times, and admit, very nice during rainy season.

... "Thailand's forests aren't "true" tropical rainforests in the strictest sense (like the Amazon with rain all year), but it has incredibly diverse Tropical Evergreen Forests (TEF) and Tropical Moist Deciduous Forests'" ...
